You are here: Agent Deployment > Mac > Installing the Mac Agent Installing the Mac Agent The following instructions will outline the steps to install the Mac agent. Please note that once the Mac agent has installed, it may take up to 20 minutes for it to display in the Control Center. NOTE: The Mac agent has a built-in feature to update the agent when the server is updated with a new version. If the agent fails to update or another error occurs, you will need to update the system manually. The new LTSvc.mpkg will overwrite the original install except for the AgentInternals.txt and Agent Registry.txt files, if they already exist. IMPORTANT: The Mac Agent will only work on Macs with an Intel processor running Mac OS version 10.4 and later. Additionally, you must be on LabTech 2012 or later before attempting to install. 1. Enter the FQDN of the LabTech server into a browser window. This will take you to the home page of the Web Control Center. 2. Click on the 'Mac Install Agent' link and select Save. 3. In the Downloads section of the Mac Dock, click the LTSvc.mpkg. This will open the Install LTSvc window.
4. Click Continue.
5. To execute a standard installation, click Install. To change the installation location to another drive, select Change Install Location. The Destination Select screen will display as shown by the following example.
6. All available drives will be displayed; select the appropriate drive and click Continue. This will bring you back to the Installation Type screen.
7. Click Install. You will be prompted for the administrator password. 8. Enter the Name and Password and click Install Software. The agent will take a few moments to install itself onto your system. When the installation is complete, the summary screen will display indicating that installation was successful.
The agent will automatically start up the LabTech tray icon and check into the server. This may take up to five minutes. The remaining steps are for verification purposes only to ensure the agent has installed successfully. 9. From the Mac Dock, select the Finder.
10. In the Finder search field type Terminal, ensure that This Mac is highlighted and press [Enter]. Double-click on the Terminal icon to open a Terminal window. 11. In the Terminal window, type in the following command sudo launchctl list grep com.labtechsoftware and press [Enter]. You will be prompted for your administrator password. 12. Enter your password and press [Enter]. The following two items will display: com.labtechsoftware.ltupdate com.labtechsoftware.ltsvc
13. Enter the following command launchctl list grep com.labtechsoftware and press [Enter]. The following item will display: com.labtechsoftware.lttray If these three functions are running then the agent has installed correctly. The agent will create and place the following files in the /usr/ltsvc/ with the exception of the LTErrors.txt file. This file will reside in the var/log directory. File Name AgentInternals.txt AgentRegistry.txt Configuration LTErrors.txt LTSvc LTTray.app LTUpdate Update.plist Downloaded Files Description Contains registry information that should not be altered by the user. Contains registry information that can be altered by experienced LabTech users. For more information, refer to Mac Logging. The configuration information parallels the Windows agent configuration information. This version of the Mac agent can only download the information, not utilize it. The log file for The LabTech agent. This log can be found in var/log directory. This file contains the agent services. This file contains the tray icon and tray services. This file contains the agent update protocols. This file contains the keep-alive for the launchd update file. NOTE: The /usr/ltsvc directory is hidden in Finder by default. In order to make these files visible, open a Terminal window and enter the following commands: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE and press [Enter]. Then enter: killall Finder and press [Enter]. The launchd files are added to the Launch Daemon and Launch Agent directories. These files contain settings and keep-alive programs. /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.labtechsoftware.LTUpdate.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.labtechsoftware.LTSvc.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.labtechsoftware.LTTray.plist NOTE: The LTUpdate is an on demand Daemon and is only active for a few moments when the server and the agent machine version numbers do not match.
