Description This document describes how to install and configure Workshop 4, and how to install the driver for the 4D Programming Cable. It is highly recommended to follow this document prior to the other ones. What You Need For this application note, the following items are needed: A 4D Systems display module A 4D Systems programming cable NOTE: Only required if planning to use Designer, ViSi or ViSi-Genie. Modules come shipped with Serial so a programming cable is only required if this is to be changed/updated, however a programming cable is highly recommended. A Windows PC Download and Install Workshop 4 Workshop 4 is the integrated development environment that features four different environments for the 4D screens: Designer, ViSi, ViSi-Genie. Serial. Please refer to the documentation on the Workshop 4 product page for more information about these environments and what they are for. Go to the Workshop 4 page at: Click on Workshop 4 IDE Software link, and click Save: http://www.4dsystems.com.au/prod.php?id=172 The download starts: Once downloaded, run/open the file. Installation starts: The Workshop 4 software and all documentation releating to Workshop 4 can be downloaded from this page, be sure to scroll down to see all the documentation that is available. 2012 4D Systems Page 4 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

A welcome screen is displayed: The window displays the licence agreement: Click on Next. Click on I accept the terms of the licence agreement and then on Next. 2012 4D Systems Page 5 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

The installer asks for the destination folder, where Workshop is going to be placed: The installer asks for the shortcut on the Windows Start menu: Accept the proposed folder and click on Next. Accept the proposed folder and click on Next. 2012 4D Systems Page 6 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

Installation goes on: When installation is completed, an alias to Workshop 4 is placed on the desktop: To run 4D Workshop, just double-click on the alias: 2012 4D Systems Page 8 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

Workshop 3 and Workshop 4 can reside alongside on the Program Files directory: Download and Install the Programming Cable Driver Do not connect the programming cable until the driver is installed. Please install first the driver and then connect the programming cable. Go to the 4D Systems website and download the latest version of the driver for the programming cable from the 4D Programming Cable page. 2012 4D Systems Page 9 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

Go to the 4D Programming Cable page at: http://www.4dsystems.com.au/prod.php?id=138 When the download has completed, run/open the downloaded file to launch the installation of the driver. A welcome screen is displayed: Click on Next. Click on Drivers for Windows to start downloading: Click on Save. 2012 4D Systems Page 10 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

The license agreement is displayed: The installer asks for the destination folder, where the driver is going to be placed: Click on I accept the the terms of the license agreement and then click on Next. The installer is now ready. A new window asks for confirmation: Click on Install to proceed. The driver is being installed. Port are scanned: Click Finish to install the driver. A final screen informs the driver is installed and ready. 2012 4D Systems Page 13 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

Now it s time plug the 4D programming cable in. the USB port. Windows detects the cable and activates the adequate driver: Windows displays a final message: A confirmation window shows the installed port, here COM3. 2012 4D Systems Page 14 of 16 www.4dsystems.com.au

It is important to remember it as it is going to be used on Workshop 4 for uploading, here COM3: Congratulations! Workshop 4 is installed and your display module is ready to be used.
