INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING TO THE UNION COLLEGE WIRELESS NETWORK WITH AN ACCOUNT USING A WINDOWS COMPUTER. Step by step instructions for connecting to the Union College wireless network with an account using a Windows computer. Requirements for accessing Union College s union network: 1. You must be in an area where the wireless network is available. 2. The wireless card on your laptop must be enabled. 3. Your Union College network account must be active. Note: After 60 days of inactivity, you will need to re- register your device to use the WiFi network. Information Technology Services Page 1
Step 1: Instructions Windows XP Windows 7 / Vista Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located on the right side of the taskbar as shown in Figures 1a and 1b. Figure 1a Figure 1b Windows XP users: You will be presented with the Wireless Network Connection Status window. From there, click on the View Wireless Networks button. You will be presented with a list of wireless networks within range as shown in Figure 2a. Windows 7 / Vista users: You will be presented with a list of wireless networks within range as shown in Figure 2b. Step 2: Click on the union network as shown in Figures 2a and 2b. Windows XP users: You will be presented with a small Wireless Network Connection window as shown in Figure 2c window as the computer connects to the union network. Windows 7 / Vista users: You will be presented with a small Connect to a network window as shown in Figure 2d the computer connects to the union network. To verify you are connected to union, repeat the previous steps to view the wireless networks. You will see Connected displayed in the union network field. If you do not see the Wireless Network Connection icon on your taskbar, click Start > Control Panel > Wireless Network Connection > View Wireless Networks. Figure 2a Figure 2c If you do not see the Wireless Network Connection icon on your taskbar, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Connect to a network. Figure 2b Figure 2d Step 3: Open up an internet browser (Internet Explorer is preferred, but any browser will work). You will be redirected to the Union College Acceptable Use Policy web page as shown in Figures 3a and 3b. Read through the policy click Agree located at the bottom of the page. You will be presented with the Welcome screen shown in Figures 4a and 4b. Figure 3a Figure 3b Information Technology Services Page 2
Step 4: Select Users who have a Network account. You will be presented with fields to enter your User Name and Password as shown in Figures 5a and 5b. Figure 4a Figure 4b Step 5: Enter your User Name and Password in the fields provided. Then click Download. You will be presented with the File Download Security Warning screen shown in Figures 6a and 6b. Figure 5a Figure 5b Step 6: The File Download Security Warning screen is asking if you want to run software from the specified server. Click Run to begin the installation process. You will be presented with an additional popup window titled Internet Explorer Security Warning shown in Figures 7a and 7b. Figure 6a Figure 6b Windows 7 / Vista Users: The warning screen may appear at the bottom of your browser as shown in Figure 6c. Click Run which is located directly to the right of that message. This will be followed by message alerting you the download is completed as shown in Figure 6d. Figure 6c Figure 6d Information Technology Services Page 3
Step 7: Figure 7a Figure 7b The Internet Explorer Security Warning screen asking you to verify you want to run the specified software. Click Run or Yes to continue with the installation. You will be presented with the Bradford Persistent Agent Setup window shown in Figures 8a and 8b. Step 8: The Bradford Persistent Agent Setup Wizard will take you through a few additional steps that are required for WiFi use. Click Next to continue with the installation. Figure 8a Figure 8b Step 9: The Bradford Persistent Agent is now being installed on your computer. This may take a few minutes. Upon successful completion, you will be presented with a notice of completion as shown in Figures 10a and 10b. Figure 9a Figure 9b Step 10: The Bradford Persistent Agent has completed the installation. Click Finish to close the window. You will receive a popup window asking you to enter your User Name and Password as shown in Figures 11a and 11b. Figure 10a Figure 10b Information Technology Services Page 4
Step 11: Enter your User Name and Password in the fields provided. Then click Login. The Bradford Persistent Agent will scan your computer to make sure it meets the requirements to access Union s WiFi network. Figure 11a Figure 11b Step 12: Please be patient while the CSA application scans your machine. It will scan your computer to make sure that it meets the minimum operating system and security requirements for Union s network. If any of these requirements are not met, you will be redirected to a web page explaining what did not pass and giving you instructions on how to correct this issue. If any remediation is needed, please complete the necessary items and then go thru this packet again to rescan your machine. Step 13: Upon successful completion of the security scan, you will get a message that your network connection is being reconfigured. This final process may take a few minutes. Windows XP Users: The window will automatically close when this process is completed. Close your browser. Then, reopen your browser. You should now be able to browse the web. Windows 7 / Vista Users: You will be presented with an additional message once your device is registered as shown in Figure 13c.
