Why Evernote? There s nothing like having a note paper or notebook so you can write down thoughts, notes, sketches, ideas, to do lists, goals, dreams, inspirational quotes where ever you are.
Can You Find Notes When you Need Them? Paper is great Sticky notes are handy reminders Notebooks are crammed full of good stuff, but Can we find them when we need them?

What is Evernote? Evernote is a digital notebook or as I think of it a digital loose-leaf. In your digital loose-leaf you can have notes, notebooks and different sections so you can organize your content without having to drag a cumbersome loose-leaf around with you.
What can you Store in Evernote? Capture, store, tag and index just about any type of data Text notes and documents including PDF & Word files, receipts, emails, screen shots, etc. Images including digital photos from your computer or devices Audio files Existing audio files or your own recordings, i.e. reminders, etc. Video Files Websites

Creating your Evernote account
Go to www.evernote.com and click Sign up now
Type in the Email you want associated with Evernote and then type in a password This will include an email as a user name and a password. Write this down so you don t forget it. You will need it later on after the install.
Fill in the Create Account with the same information on the previous screen
Downloading Evernote to your Desktop This button will take you to the web-based version. This will download Evernote to your Desktop
Downloading in Internet Explorer In Explorer click on run
Downloading Evernote in Chrome Click
Save it to a Folder on Your Computer
Click on the down arrow and click Open When Done

Database This term is used loosely to describe the entire collection of Evernote. This includes notes and notebooks. This can be interchanged with the term Evernote Account
Opening Screen
Notes A single item stored in Evernote. This can be a PDF file, a document, an image, a piece of text, a file, an audio or video file, a screen capture, url address, an email, or any combination thereof.

Add a Note
Title of a Note The title is whatever you want to name your note. Click on the title and type it in. Title
Body of the Note Many formatting options Font Color and size Justification options, i.e. centered, left etc. Bulleted and numbered lists Checkboxes (these make great to-do lists) Tables Just like a word processor

URL Field (Web Address) If you use a Web Clipper (we will talk about this later) the URL or Web Address will come in with the note.
Security of a Note Notes can be Encrypted with Passwords Warning, if you lose your password you lose your information. Evernote cannot retrieve it for you You cannot encrypt an entire note or notebook, just a selection
Encrypting your Note Select the Text you want to encrypt
Encrypting your Note Right-Click (mouse) on the selected text and select Encrypt Selected Text
Put in your Password and a Hint Text is now hidden Double click on the lock and put in your password to open the text
Attributes or Metadata of a Note Data about each of your notes Date it was created How it was added What types of media it contains, and more All notes have these Some notes have more than others

Other info about notes Free Accounts, not note bigger than 25 mb Premium, not bigger than 100 mb per note If you open a file in another application, i.e. Word, whatever you change in your document will change in Evernote
Tag Your it!
Tags Word[s] attached to a note that identifies the subject of the note. Can group many notes by topic Each note may have multiple tags or none at all. Notes can be searched by using Tags.
To Add a Tag Click to the right of the tag icon or the last tag and type in your tag. If you already have that tag, it will automatically pop up and let you click on it. Type in the tag
Reuse Tags If a tag has been used before it will come up for you.
View Notes
Click on the icon by the notes and look at the view options and the sort orders.
List View Lists the notes with no graphics and shows a preview in the pane below..
Snippet View Notes have graphic description on the left and the note is shown in the right pane.
Card View The Card View shows the notes in greater descripton and a preview on the right.
Notebooks
Notebooks Container used for storing notes so you can organize your notes You can have up to 250 notebooks.

Make a Default Notebook called Inbox This notebook will be the one that notes go into if you don t specify a notebook.
Rename First Notebook Right-Click (Mouse) and click on Rename
This will be your Default Notebook Type in Inbox over the First Notebook Make sure the Make this my default notebook is checked Click on Settings
Creating a Notebook File New Notebook [choose between synced or local notebook] Local notebook only lives on your computer not in the cloud. It will not be available on other devices.
Type in the Name of Your New Notebook
Right-Click (mouse) on your notebook for other options including create and rename.
Moving Notes into a Notebook Click on the Note to add
Drag the Note into the Notebook
Click on the Notebook The note is in there
The Left Panel View Click on View Click on Left Panel Click on the options you would like to see on the Left Hand Column
Left Panel You can choose what options you want to show in this panel. Click on the Notebooks and collapse if you want.
Stacks
Stack Stack A group of your notebooks kept together Container for notebooks. Organizes notebooks. Stack might contain family history stack holding all of your family history notebooks in one place. Each stack counts as a notebook.
Adding or Creating a Stack Drag a notebook onto another notebook to create a stack or Drag a notebook into an existing stack Right-click (mouse) on a stack to rename it
