These modules include: Computer Essentials Online Essentials Word Processing Spreadsheets Using Databases Presentation Getting Started Any potential candidates who wish to begin or even complete their remaining modules of the ECDL at Maynooth University are encouraged to read through this information carefully and contact ecdl@nuim.ie with any further queries they may have. New candidates to ECDL will need to: 1. Complete self-registration 2. Purchase a skills card Any candidate who has begun their ECDL elsewhere and would like to complete their modules with Maynooth University will need to confirm with their current test centre whether their skills card is still valid. If so, they will then need to ask their current test centre to contact ICS Skills on their behalf in order to request a transfer from the current test centre to the Maynooth University, Computer Centre, Centre ID number 537. Once this transfer is complete, you may begin studying and sitting your ECDL exams with us. If the skills card is not valid, please contact ecdl@nuim.ie for further information.

1. Self-Registration Information for New Candidates ONLY All new candidates to the ECDL programme must complete self-registration. Prior to completing this, please ensure to read the following information carefully: Self-registration should be completed ONCE only. If you are unsure of the status of your registration or of your login details, do not re-register, please instead contact ecdl@nuim.ie with your query. During self-registration you will be prompted to enter an e-mail address and password; use your NUIM e-mail address ONLY. Please ensure to retain these details as you will need them in the future to access the online learning system, also known as the Computer Based Training (CBT) and the online test system, also known as the Automated Test System (ATS). Self-register as soon as possible, as any candidate who has not registered prior to booking an exam will be unable to sit the exam at that time and will also be unable to access the online learning system. Allow at least three working days for your registration to be processed before booking an exam. 2. Skills card: A skills card provides a method of recording a candidates progress. A skills card can be physical or virtual; the only difference being that a physical skills card is a paper-based record of a candidate s results whereas a virtual skills card is a means of recording a candidate s results in an online database. All new candidates to the programme must purchase a skills card at a cost of EUR40. Please be aware that you do not receive any paper-based form of your skills card on purchase instead a unique skills card number will be assigned to you and your registration. To purchase your skills card, you must create an account on the Maynooth University online shop and purchase your skills card from the Computer Centre products page using a credit/debit card. For further information on this, please refer to the Purchase and Booking Guidelines section. If the skills card is not valid, please contact ecdl@nuim.ie for further information.

If at any point a candidate wishes to complete their ECDL with another test centre they will need to email ecdl@nuim.ie and confirm the full name of the test centre they wish to move to and the test centre ID number. Please allow three working days for this request to be processed. If you have already begun your ECDL elsewhere and would like to complete your remaining modules with Maynooth University Computer Centre, you will need to confirm with your current test centre whether your skills card is still valid. If so, you will then need to ask your current test centre to contact ICS Skills on your behalf in order to request a transfer from the current test centre to the Maynooth University, Computer Centre, Centre ID number 537. Once this transfer is complete, you may begin studying and sitting your ECDL exams with us. What happens next? Once you have completed self-registration and purchased/provided a skills card, your registration will still need to be processed. Please allow at least three working days for this to be done. Once your registration has been processed, an e-mail will be sent to your NUIM e-mail account confirming your registration status. Only after you receive this e-mail will you then be able to access the online learning system. After studying one or more modules and once you feel that you are ready to begin sitting your ECDL exams you can book and purchase an exam online. For further information on booking your exam online, please refer to our Purchase and Booking Guidelines. Please note: ECDL exam sessions are offered on a first come, first serve basis. It is not possible to pre-book exams by e-mail or phone to pay at a later stage. Login Details The e-mail address and password which you provide during self-registration are the login details that are required to access the CBT and ATS systems. If you are unsure of your login details at any point, please do NOT re-register, instead send an e-mail to ecdl@nuim.ie

requesting a password reset and you will be provided with a one-time use password along with instructions on how to change this to a more suitable password. Please change this password as soon as possible as it will expire within 12 hours. If you experience any difficulties changing your password, please e-mail ecdl@nuim.ie. ECDL Exams The dates and times of ECDL exam sessions vary in order to suit the demands of candidates timetable commitments. We run ECDL exams throughout the academic year and the frequency and number of exam sessions set will be determined by the demand. The examination timetable is available to view on the Computer Centre web-pages or Moodle. Only one exam can be completed in any one exam session and there can be no exceptions to this. The majority of exams are held in Teaching Room 1, however some will also be held in Teaching Room 2 or Long Corridor so please check the timetable regularly for information on the venue. Each exam itself lasts for a total of 45 minutes; however, we do ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled exam time. Each candidate will need to sign-in and produce their student ID card for every exam session and there can be no exceptions to this. Any candidate who fails to produce their student ID card for their first exam session will not be permitted to sit their exam at that time or until they can present their student ID card. In order to access the ATS you will need to use the login information (e-mail address and password) you created during Self-Registration. Please ensure that you are aware of your login details prior to the exam start time as resetting a password can delay the start of the exam session. If you are unsure of your login details, please contact ecdl@nuim.ie.

Additional Information What happens when I have completed seven ECDL exams? On successful completion of seven ECDL modules, you will receive an ECDL Award. This Award will be requested for you within three days of completion of your final module. It will take approximately 1-2 weeks to reach the Computer Centre and once this arrives with us, you will be notified by e-mail to collect your Award at your convenience. Upon collection, you will be asked to present your student ID card. If you are unable to collect your Award or if you do not have a student ID card, please e-mail ecdl@nuim.ie to inform us of this. ECDL @ MU: ECDL on Moodle Moodle is a major forum for communication between and to students and staff alike. We provide general ECDL Information and news, regular timetable updates, important ECDL notices and alerts and also forums to allow candidates to ask questions, offer opinions and give feedback. It is highly recommended that all ECDL candidates enrol to this page to receive the full benefit of the program within Maynooth University Computer Centre. To access the ECDL Information available on Moodle, you will need to enrol to the course. No enrolment key is required and you can un-enrol at any point. To do this, you must log into Moodle, search for ECDL and simply enrol to this course. ECDL@nuim.ie ECDL@nuim.ie is an e-mail service which was set-up in order to answer any ECDL related questions or queries. All login/password queries, CBT or ATS related technical queries, online shop issues, timetable, certificate and general ECDL queries should all be sent to ecdl@nuim.ie. When you send your query to ecdl@nuim.ie, please allow at least three working days to receive a response before re-sending your query.
