1 Update Management With the ServerView Suite, you are assured of excellent support for installation, administration and restoration of software- and firmware components throughout the life cycle of your PRIMERGY servers. For the administration, products are available for integration right through to the maintenance process. Monitoring/ Alerting Integration Asset Management Update Management Figure 1: Administration with the ServerView Suite The Update Management of the ServerView Suite offers the administrator a convenient option for updating various components of the servers. There are various reasons why server components need to be updated, including to provide new functions or services, to perform regular maintenance, or to eliminate security/system problems. You control the updating of the monitored servers and server groups centrally from a management station. Update Management - Overview 5

Update Management Even a very large number of servers can be kept up-to-date, also remotely. The objective is successful, cost-effective updating of your PRIMERGY servers, adjusted to your requirements and with minimum interruption. The following are available for the maintenance process: ServerView Update Management ServerView Update Management comprises the following components: Update Manager for managing online updates, see page 9. Repository Manager for managing the update repository, see page 11. Download Manager for administration of download tasks from the Web server to the management station, see page 12. Configuration for setting the parameters you use to control the component downloads, see page 14. Update Manager Express and ASPs (Autonomous Support packages), to install and update BIOS and firmware of the various server components locally on the current PRIMERGY servers, see section Update Manager Express on page 15. On Windows systems you can also use Update Manager Express to install and update drivers and software kits on the components of your PRIMERGY server. PrimeUp to install and update drivers and software kits locally on the managed server, see section PrimeUp on page 17. 6 Update Management - Overview

Update Management Interaction with the Asset Management of the ServerView Suite With the Asset Management of the ServerView Suite you can take inventory of all server components in your network before you update them. This module gives you information on the current status of your servers and recommendations for necessary updates. The following programs are available for Asset Management: Inventory Manager, to record and analyze server data, Archive Manager, to update server data. Further information is provided in a separate document on Asset Management. Availability of the documentation The documentation can be found on the ServerView Suite DVD 2 supplied with each server system. The documentation can also be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. You will find the online documentation at http://manuals.ts.fujitsu.com under the link Industry standard servers. Update Management - Overview 7

ServerView Update Management Update Management 1.1 ServerView Update Management During installation of the ServerView Operations Manager software, the various components of the ServerView Update Management are installed via the ServerView Update Manager installation package: Update Manager Repository Manager Download Manager Configuration You start the individual components via the start page of ServerView Operations Manager (under Update Management) or via Update Management on the menu bar. Figure 2: Starting components via the ServerView Operations Manager start page 8 Update Management - Overview

Update Management ServerView Update Management 1.1.1 ServerView Update Manager ServerView Update Manager enables drivers and add-on products to be installed for the first time and the BIOS, firmware and software components, drivers, ServerView agents and ServerView Update agents to be updated. A graphical user interface and a command interface are available to you to implement the update. On startup the following main window is displayed: Figure 3: Update Manager main window Update Management - Overview 9

ServerView Update Management Update Management Update procedures ServerView Update Manager offers various processes which enable the system components of PRIMERGY servers to be updated: Online Update You can use this process for the initial installation of drivers and add-on products, as well as to update the BIOS, firmware and software components, drivers, ServerView agents and ServerView Update agents on multiple PRIMERGY servers simultaneously. It is controlled via a central management station. Offline Update Not all components of the PRIMERGY servers can be updated online, in other words no Windows or Linux tools are available for this hardware. This is frequently the case with older Windows servers. These components are updated offline using DOS tools. In this case the Update Manager also controls the activation and deactivation of the DOS environment and performs the required reboots (switch to DOS, return to Windows or Linux). Two procedures are available for the offline update: Update via the service partition of the server The updating of the PRIMERGY servers in the network is controlled from a central management station. When the operating system was installed, a DOS service partition was set up on the individual servers via ServerView Installation Manager /ServerStart, in which the actual update process is performed. Update via a PXE server (Preboot execution Environment) The update of the PRIMERGY servers is controlled centrally by a management station in the network. A PXE server (normally one PXE server for all the servers that are to be updated) is assigned to the managed servers, and the servers then implement their PXE boot via this. Update via TFTP Server This procedure is used to update PRIMERGY system components which cannot be updated using the update tools available under Windows, Linux or DOS either at all or only with great effort, or to update autonomous hardware systems on which none of these three operating systems runs. These system components and hardware systems are updated via a ServerView Update agent of the type TFTP Server. 10 Update Management - Overview

Update Management ServerView Update Management 1.1.2 Repository Manager With the Update Manager you compile update jobs and access the update data from the update repository. Repository Manager allows you to administer the update repository located on the management station. I IFor reasons of compatibility, the update repository (except for the PrimSupportPack-Win) is also still contained in the Firmware directory on the ServerView Suite DVD 1 for Windows. On startup, the main window is displayed showing the current contents of the update repository. Here you can perform the following functions: Display updates, including all available updates, new updates and all recommended updates. Release checked updates for selected servers. Import the update repository from the ServerView Suite DVD 1. Create and manage user-specific update groups. Update Management - Overview 11

ServerView Update Management Update Management 1.1.3 Download Manager The Download Manager provides you with a convenient way of receiving the latest versions of firmware, BIOS, drivers, and ServerView agents for your server. The Download Manager relieves you of the task of performing timeconsuming searches for suitable update information. Information and update files are provided on the Fujitsu Web server for your server update. The Download Manager first loads the information files to a download directory. The data in these information files provides the Download Manager and the other components of the ServerView Suite with an overview of the available updates. When you start the Download Manager the following main window is displayed: Figure 4: Download Manager main window 12 Update Management - Overview

Update Management ServerView Update Management You define via a graphical user interface when and how often download tasks are to be performed for specific servers. The necessary data is then automatically stored in the update repository you have specified on the central management station. Access to update data For the PRIMERGY servers to be updated, the relevant update data must be available in an update repository which ServerView Update Manager can access. This update repository is located in two places: 1. In the download area of the Fujitsu Web server. From this area you download the data either with the Download Manager (automatic download) or via manual download into a directory on the central management station which will be accessed during the update. 2. In the Firmware directory on the ServerView Suite DVD 1, a new version of which comes out every two months. During the update, this DVD can be accessed directly, so it is not necessary to copy the data onto the central management station. Update Management - Overview 13

ServerView Update Management Update Management 1.1.4 Configuration In the Configuration component you can make global settings for controlling the download jobs. On startup the following main window is displayed: Figure 5: Configuration main windows You can display the following information: Configuration parameters for the Download Service, e.g. IP address of the TFTP server (General Settings tab). Mail parameters for the people who are to be informed of new updates when these have been downloaded by the Download Service (Mail Settings tab). Connection data relating to the Fujitsu Web server (Proxy Settings tab). The Change Configuration button starts the Configuration wizard, in which you can edit these settings. I The Configuration wizard starts automatically the first time you open Update Management. 14 Update Management - Overview

Update Management Update Manager Express 1.2 Update Manager Express With Update Manager Express, you can install firmware and BIOS of the following server components on the current PRIMERGY servers: LAN Controller: Firmware Management controller (irmc / irmc S2): Firmware Microcontroller: Firmware System board: BIOS SCSI controller: Firmware For the installation, Update Manager Express uses selfextracting and selfinstalling software packages, so-called Autonomous Support Packages (ASPs). On Windows Server operating systems, Update Manager Express also allows you to install and update drivers of your PRIMERGY server. For this purpose, a separate installation package (PRIMERGY Support Package, PSP) is available for each component of the server. Starting Update Manager Express On the PRIMERGY server, you start the Update Manager Express from the ServerView Suite DVD 1 or from the Update DVD. Depending on the server status, you have the following alternatives: Start Update Manager Express under Windows Server 2003/2008. Start Update Manager Express after booting the server from the ServerView Suite DVD 1. Update Management - Overview 15

Update Manager Express Update Management Using Update Manager Express A graphical user interface is available for the update. On startup the following main window is displayed: Figure 6: Update Manager Express main window Update Manager Express distinguishes between the following operating modes In Quick Mode mode the BIOS/firmware/driver installation (update) on the server components runs fully automatically. In Normal Mode mode you can specifically select the individual server components whose BIOS/firmware/drivers you want to update. The Expert Mode mode gives you the option not only of updating the BIOS/firmware/drivers but also of resetting to an older BIOS/firmware/drivers version. Depending on which mode you choose, you will have different functionalities and options available to you when installing the BIOS/firmware/drivers. 16 Update Management - Overview

Update Management PrimeUp 1.3 PrimeUp PrimeUp allows unattended updating of drivers and software kits (e.g. ServerView agents) locally on the managed server. The drivers and software kits are provided in special PRIMERGY Support Packages on the Fujitsu Web server as well as on the ServerView Suite DVD 1 (in the ServerView update repository). With PrimeUp you first create a list of the updates due for your server. PrimeUp then installs/updates drivers and/or software kits according to a generated installation list. The necessary system reboots are performed automatically. Installing/Starting PrimeUp PrimeUp is provided as an MSI package on the ServerView Suite DVD 1. It must be installed locally on the managed server. You start PrimeUp as a command-line tool either via the Windows input prompt or via script. Update Management - Overview 17
