Summary To install the complete system there are several downloads required. 1. Install MS SQL Server (not required if you already have it installed) 2. Download and rrestore the LADS Sample Database 3. Install LADS Software Install MS SQL Server A database server is required to operate the LADS software. If you have access to a Microsoft SQL Server skip this section. MS SQL Server database system can be downloaded and installed for the Microsoft web site. If required Microsoft provide a free version of the SQL Server call SQLExpress. Go to the Microsoft web site. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/sql-server-editions/sql-serverexpress.aspx. The database server comes in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Check which version of windows operating system you have then download the most suitable version. If in doubt open the windows explorer and select About from the help menu. Once the file has been downloaded run the file and follow the installation instruction. Use Existing MS SQL Server If you already are operating a MS SQL Server then there is no requirement to install any additional software. Download and restore the sample database. See below. Restore the LADS Sample Database A MS SQL Server sample database can be downloaded and installed on the MS SQL Server. The sample database is in the MS SQL Server backup and restore format. It can be restored to a MS SQL Server using the standard administration tools. It will be restored with the correct structure and sample data. The project file has been created with version 2008 and can be restored to versions 2008 and higher. Go to www.ladesignsystem.com web site. Go to the download page. Give your server a name and remember this. It is normally call "SQLEXPRESS". You need to enter this is the LADS log in for the server name. Once you have installed SQL server open the SQL Server Management Studio. Right click on the system database item then select Restore database option. A Restore Database form will open. Select "Device" not Database. Open the file selector with the "..." button. A Select Backup Devices form will open. Select "File" as the Backup media type then click "Add". Use the file dialog to select the desired backup file. Click OK. The Destination database will be the one in the backup file. It will be displayed on the Restore database form. Ensure it is correct. Installation Instructions MSSQL Saturday, 18 July 2015 Page 5 of 9
Go to the Options menu. Select "Overwrite the existing database". Ensure Recovery state is "Restore with Recovery" Click Restore. The restored database will be displayed in the Object Explorer once restored. Installation Instructions MSSQL Saturday, 18 July 2015 Page 6 of 9
Changed Owner The database owner may need to be changed. Run the following query if required. Right click on database to show popup menu and select New Query. Install LADS Software The LADS software is a database client system. It is designed to connect to a database server such as Microsoft SQL server or MYSQL. Go to www.ladesignsystem.com web site. Go to the download page. Down load the Installation File. This is a Microsoft windows installer program. Remove any old LADesignSystem versions if required. Run the installation file. Setup.exe This will install all the software and create menu short cuts. It will NOT setup the MS SQL database system or create user accounts. Connect LADS Program to the Database Open any of the LADS programs. Open the application menu from the ribbon bar and select open project. The logon form will be displayed. The programs can use Windows authentication. This just means you can log on with your windows logon. When logging on check the Windows Security check box. Enter the name of your server ie SQLEXPRESS. Click the Database combo box to display a list of project databases. Select your project and click OK. Installation Instructions MSSQL Saturday, 18 July 2015 Page 8 of 9
If you do not want to use Windows authentication you will need to enter a user name in the SQL Server using the Management Studio. The program will remember you setup preference when you exit the program. If the program does not connect to the database server then:- 1. Check that the user has permission for the selected project database. This needs to be completed using the MS SQL administration tools. 2. Ensure the user name and password is correct 3.
