Go to Java.com and click on the Free Java Download button On the download page click on the Agree and Start Free Download button The File Download dialog box appears, click on the Save File button Banner prompts me to download and install Java. Is this okay? Yes. The first time you access Banner, you may be prompted to install Java. This should only happen once per computer. If so, follow the prompts: 1
Accept any licensing agreements that may come up during the installation Select Run where offered. If asked to verify the digital signature, check the box Always trust content from this publisher before proceeding. What Java version should I use? You can use any version of Java 8. How do I check what version of Java is installed on my computer? The Java version can be found in the Java Control Panel. Find the Java Control Panel. Under the General tab in the Java Control Panel, the version is available through the About section. A dialog appears (after clicking About) showing the Java version. 2
What should I do if I get a Java out of date message? If you see a message similar to one of the following, you can select Run this time or you can choose to Update Java. If you see the message below, right click to see the choices. You must be an administrator on your computer to Update Java. If you are not an administrator or need additional assistance, please contact your local desktop support. What should I do if I get an Application Blocked or Application Error? If you receive a Java popup message similar to the examples shown below, You have multiple versions of Java installed on your computer or The Java version you have is not compatible with Banner. 3
You probably have to update security settings in your Java Control Panel (see instructions here) or Add the URL to the Exception Site List (see instructions here) You must be an administrator on your computer to perform these tasks. How do I Update Settings/Sites in the Java Control Panel Close all applications Go to your Control Panel and select Java Click the Security tab 4
Choose Edit Site List Add the site you are having Java error messages to this list by clicking Add Enter the full web address to the list (https://banner.drexel.edu/) then click OK. 5
How do I activate the Java plugin using Firefox? Depending on your security settings, Firefox may prevent the Java plugin from running automatically. You can then choose to run the plugin or update it (if an update is available). 6
If you click to activate and allow the plugin, the missing content will load normally. If it doesn't, click the reload button in the address bar to reload the page and try again. Note that the next time you use the plugin you will see this message again. I get an error message saying a plugin is needed or the plugin can t be found. What should I do? There are a few reasons why you might be getting this. You may need to install Java. See instructions here. Java may not have been installed correctly. Remove all Java instances and reinstall it. You may have more than one Java version on your computer. If so, remove older versions by following the instructions here. It is also possible you may have to remove all versions of Java and then reinstall the latest version. If you are still prompted to update Java after installing the latest version, try closing and restarting your browser. If you are still prompted to update, try restarting your computer. Some systems need a restart to register the newly installed Java plugin. How do I uninstall a version of Java? You may need administrator privileges on the computer to remove programs. Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser Click: Start and then Control Panel (depending on your Operating System or configuration, you may need to click: Start > Settings > Control Panel) Open: Programs and Features (Windows 7) In the programs list, locate the version of Java you want to uninstall. Check all 3 boxes to delete all the temporary files. Click OK (it may take a few minutes to finish). Go back to the Java Control Panel and select the Advanced tab. Scroll down towards the bottom and find Check for signed code certificate revocation using plus Check for TLS certificate revocation using Click the radio button for Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) for each of them. 9
Click OK to close the Advanced tab and click OK again to close the Java Control Panel. Open a new browser session (e.g., IE or Firefox but not Chrome) and try to log into Banner again. It may be a little slow to start as all the jar files will have to download again. Why can t I get Banner to work in Chrome? Starting with Chrome version 42 (released April 2015), Chrome has disabled the standard way in which browsers support plugins, including Java. If you have problems accessing Banner using Chrome, Oracle recommends using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari instead. How do I disable the popup "Do you want to view only the webpages content that was delivered securely? You can avoid seeing this popup by changing some of your browser settings. This is usually the result of clicking Yes when a java security message is displayed when logging into Banner asking the user if the browser should disable or block parts of the program that do not have a security signature. Did you see one of these security warnings when Java was loading? 13
You need to click No to this popup in order for Banner to display and work correctly. What do I do when I see a message notifying me that my password will expire in a few days? You should change your password immediately. Waiting may cause you to be locked out of Banner. How do I change my Banner password? Use the Change Banner Password link on the right side of the main page. Put in your current or temporary password then select a new one and put it in twice. 14
The rules for creating a new password are as follows: 6-16 characters in length First character must be a letter At least 2 letters and 1 number Only allowable symbols are # and _ Cannot use your user id backwards or forwards Click the Save icon Why did I lose my Banner session (disconnected unexpectedly)? The most common reason for losing your connection to INB is accidentally closing down one of INB's browser windows. Note that to function, INB requires 2 browser windows to be open: INB Session Manager - a shell Oracle Developer Forms Runtime - Web - the window containing the Banner menus and forms You can minimize one or both of these windows but do NOT close either one, or your connection will be lost. Furthermore, to close a session, you must close the Banner window first (the Developer Forms Runtime), then close the window running in the background (the INB Session Manager). Why am I getting the message: Could not reserve record? There are several ways a record may become locked and unavailable for updates. This is frequently found in Registration (SFAREGS/SZAREGS). Normally, when one user has the record open, the record is locked to prevent another user from modifying it at the same time. However, in some cases you can inadvertently leave the record locked even after you have left the form. For example if: You made a change in a form, but have not saved and exited the form promptly. You decided not to save any changes, but did not Rollback before exiting the form. You closed the 2 session windows in the wrong order (see previous Issue). You close a 'hung' session using Ctrl + Alt + Delete. In this case, your first INB session is still active and the record is locked. 15
When a record is locked in any of these ways, you will receive the following message: Click No in response to the message. Do not keep trying to reopen a locked record. Wait 15 minutes and try to access the record again. How do I clear my Java cache? Open the Java Control Panel (Start > Control Panel, enter "Java" in the "Search Control Panel" box, and click the Java icon when it comes up) Click the Settings button Click Delete Files button 16
