Your MD-SPBT01 represents the state of the art in Bluetooth speaker design and is designed for reliable and trouble-free performance. 2

Features Compatible with most MP3 players, computers, mobile phones, and tablets. Pairs and plays in seconds using a Bluetooth wireless connection. Up to 33' range offers flexible use. Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 5 hours of battery life. Battery level monitor shows the battery level on your Apple/ ios devices (currently this feature is not available on Android devices). Lightweight design offers easy portability. 3.5 mm line input provides a simple input connection. Back view # Item Description In power-on state, press and hold the button for more than two seconds to enter into pairing mode. The LED alternates blinking red and white. 1 Multi-function button ( ) 2 (volume up) (volume down) When the phone rings, quickly press the multi-function ( ) button to answer the phone call. To end a call, press the multi-function ( ) button twice. Note: For Android users: make sure that the Phone Audio function is active in the Bluetooth settings. For more information see Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth device (Android, ios, and PC) on page 9. Press + or to increase or decrease the volume. Slide the switch to the right to power on the speaker The LED lights white. Slide the switch to the left to turn the speaker off The 3 (power) button LED turns off. When power is on, the unit automatically connects to the last Bluetooth device that was connected, within six seconds. If the last paired Bluetooth device is not in range, the unit automatically searches for another device to pair to. 4 USB port Plug the USB cable into this port. 5 AUX IN jack Plug an external audio device into this jack. If a cable is inserted into this AUX IN jack, the source is automatically switched to AUX IN. Unplug the cable and the source automatically switches back to Bluetooth. 4

Front view # Item Description 1 Status indicator LED Power LED is white when the speaker is turned on. LED is off when the speaker is turned off. Charging When the speaker is off, the LED is red while charging. After charging is complete, the LED turns off. When the speaker is on, the LED is solid red while charging. After charging is complete, the red LED turns off and the white LED turns on. Other No Bluetooth connection, the white LED flashes slowly. Bluetooth is in pairing mode, the white and red LEDs alternate blinking. Successful Bluetooth connection, solid white LED. The white LED blinks quickly when increasing/decreasing the volume. When the minimum/maximum volume is reached, the LED is solid white. The LED quickly blinks red when the battery is low. The speaker remains on for approximately 10 more minutes. 6

Setting up your speaker Charging your speaker When your speaker s battery is low, the red LED blinks. To charge your speaker: Connect the charging cable to your Bluetooth speaker and to an available USB port on your computer or a USB charging station. Micro USB charging port (under the flap cover) Using your speaker Turning your speaker on and off To turn your speaker on and off: 1 Slide the (power) switch to the right to turn your speaker on. 2 Slide the (power) switch to the left to turn your speaker off. 8

Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth device (Android, ios, and PC) Note: Bluetooth range is 33 feet (10 meters). To pair your speaker with a Bluetooth device: 1 Make sure that your Bluetooth device supports the Bluetooth A2DP or HFP protocol and that your device is not paired with another device. To determine what Bluetooth protocol your device supports, see the documentation that came with your device. 2 Make sure that your speaker is turned ON. 3 If the LED is not blinking white/red, press and hold the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth speaker until the LED begins blinking white/red. 4 Make sure that your Bluetooth device is within 33 feet of your speaker. 5 Turn on your Bluetooth device, turn on the Bluetooth feature, then set your device to pairing mode. For instructions, see the documentation that came with your Bluetooth device. 6 On your Bluetooth device, select Modal MD-SPBT01. Your Bluetooth speaker pairs with the Bluetooth device and the LED lights solid white. Note: Your Bluetooth speaker can remember as many as eight (8) different Bluetooth devices. For more information on entering pairing mode, see the instructions that came with your Bluetooth device. 7 To unpair, turn off Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device. Note: If your Bluetooth device requires a password for pairing, enter 0000. If that does not work, enter 1234. Reconnecting to a paired device The Bluetooth connection is lost if you: Turn off your Bluetooth speaker Move the Bluetooth device out of range of your Bluetooth speaker Turn off your Bluetooth device Turn off the Bluetooth feature on your Bluetooth device When your speaker system is not paired to a device, the white LED blinks slowly. MD-SPBT01 9

To reconnect a paired device: 1 Turn on your Bluetooth speaker. 2 Turn on your Bluetooth device and the Bluetooth feature on the device. 3 The LED on your speaker system blinks white and red and your Bluetooth speaker searches for the last connected Bluetooth device. If the device is within range of your Bluetooth speaker, with no obstructions between your Bluetooth speaker and the device, pairing should take place. When this occurs, the white LED on your speakers lights solid. Note: The auto connect feature may not work with some Bluetooth devices. If a device does not automatically reconnect, you need to select your Bluetooth speaker on your Bluetooth device. Connecting to a device with an audio cable To connect to a device using an audio cable: Connect a 3.5 mm audio cable (not included) from your speaker to your audio device. Note: When an audio cable is connected to the AUX IN port, the speaker automatically switches to AUX mode. Your Bluetooth device may still be paired to the speaker, but you will not be able to control the volume level during playback. Disconnect the audio cable to switch back to Bluetooth mode. Controlling volume and playback To control volume and playback: 1 Use the controls on your audio device to play, pause, and select tracks. 2 Press + or to raise or lower the volume (make sure that the volume level on your Bluetooth or AUX device is at least 50%). 3 Turn your Bluetooth speaker face down to mute the sound. 10

Using the speakerphone To use the speakerphone when your Bluetooth speaker is paired to your phone: 1 To answer a call, simply shake the speaker, or press the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth speaker once. 2 Press + or to raise or lower the speakerphone volume. 3 To end a call, turn your speaker face down or press the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth speaker twice. Troubleshooting No Power No sound or low volume in Bluetooth mode No sound or low volume in AUX IN mode Bluetooth connection cannot be established My Bluetooth speaker and my Bluetooth device keep unpairing Make sure that the Bluetooth speaker is charged. Make sure your Bluetooth speaker is turned on. Turn up the volume on your Bluetooth speaker. Turn up the volume on your Bluetooth device. Make sure that your Bluetooth device is not muted. Make sure you do not have an audio cable connected to the Bluetooth speaker. When an audio cable is connected, the Bluetooth speaker automatically switches to AUX mode. Make sure that the 3.5mm stereo audio cable is firmly connected. Turn up the volume on your Bluetooth speaker. Turn up the volume on your audio device. Make sure that the connected audio device is not muted Shorten the distance between your Bluetooth device and your Bluetooth speaker. Turn off your device, then turn it on again to clear the device name. Repair your Bluetooth device and the Bluetooth speaker. Make sure that your Bluetooth speaker and Bluetooth device are both in pairing mode. Make sure that your Bluetooth device supports the Bluetooth A2DP or HFP profiles. Make sure that your Bluetooth device is not connected to any other device. Make sure that you have selected Modal device or MD-SPBT01 on your Bluetooth device. Shorten the distance between your Bluetooth device and your Bluetooth speaker. If battery charge level on your Bluetooth device is low, recharge the battery. If battery charge level on your Bluetooth speaker is low, recharge the battery. MD-SPBT01 11

One-Year Limited Warranty Modal Products ( Modal ) warrants to you, the original purchaser of this new MD-SPBT01 ( Product ), that the Product shall be free of defects in the original manufacture of the material or workmanship for one (1) year from the purchase of the Product ( Warranty Period ). This Product must be purchased from an authorized dealer of Modal brand products and packaged with this warranty statement. This warranty does not cover refurbished Product. If you notify Modal during the Warranty Period of a defect covered by this warranty that requires service, terms of this warranty apply. How long does the coverage last? The Warranty Period lasts for one year (365 days), beginning on the date you purchased the Product. The purchase date is printed on the receipt you received with the product. What does this warranty cover? During the Warranty Period, if the original manufacture of the material or workmanship of the Product is determined to be defective by an authorized Modal repair center or store personnel, Modal will (at its sole option): (1) repair the Product with new or rebuilt parts; or (2) replace the Product at no charge with new or rebuilt comparable products or parts. If service of Products and parts are required after the Warranty Period expires, you must pay all labor and parts charges. This warranty lasts as long as you own your Modal Product during the Warranty Period. Warranty coverage terminates if you sell or otherwise transfer the Product. How to obtain warranty service? If you purchased the Product at a retail store location, take your original receipt and the Product to the store you purchased it from. Make sure that you place the Product in its original packaging or packaging that provides the same amount of protection as the original packaging. If you purchased the Product from an online web site, mail your original receipt and the Product to the address listed on the web site.
