Food Festival Network
1. Project Charter a. Business Opportunity Create a web property that will be a directory of Nationwide (USA) Food Festivals that will allow users to search for festivals, share them with friends, follow them for updates, and review them. The directory of Festivals will be initially populated with a significant amount of Food Festivals entries to jump-start use, but the intention is that the majority of future entries will be crowd-sourced by users. The revenue model would is based on on-site advertising. b. Business Model Primary Use Case User arrives at FoodFestivalNetwork.com by using a search engine to find information on a specific Food Festival by name and then clicking on the search result that brings them to our site s event page for that Festival. At that point, they are presented with the event information, as well as options to follow, review, and edit the festival, and claim the festival as their own so they can moderate edits and reviews. These particular options will prompt the user to register first; this is how we hope to provoke registration conversion. Afterward, continued user interaction will be provoked by serving up information on related and nearby events, as well as allowing them to share events, review events, and invite friends to the site. Secondary Use Case User is already a registered member of the site and visits the site on their own accord. User is presented a personalized experience based on location and festivals they are following (as detailed in the 'Homepage' section of 'Features' below) and
either : a.) is provoked to take action based on one of these features, or; b.) navigates to a festival entry page via manual search using the global search tool, subjecting them to the set of features detailed below in the 'Festival Entry Page' part of the 'Features' section c. Scope Festival Types General BBQ Chili Rib Cheese General Food Beer and/or Wine Others are TBD Major Functionality User Registration User Types General FFN Member Festival Owner Facebook Connect or Gigya as option (TBD) User Event Reviews Considering Disqus implementation to increase transparency with non-registered users. Up for discussion, though. Event Following Sharing Events (twitter, facebook, etc) Adding Event to a Calendar (google calendar, ical, etc) Festival Info Editing Owner moderation of info edited and reviews made by general FFN members 2. Functional Requirements
This section aims to explain the functionality and features shown on the accompanying mockups for the Homepage and Festival Entry Page The General Page Template will be used to create all other minor pages (forms, profile pages, FAQ s etc) which will be developed after the Homepage and Festival Entry Page, and defined as needed. Global and Nav Location awareness Modules with related content (described below) are going to be a major feature of this site. The content we d like to serve up should be about other events that are either similar to the ones they are following or looking at, or near them. Thus, being aware of their location is going to be important. We envision this being done in one of 3 ways: By IP If the user is not logged in AND no search has been made, the related content served up should be a best guess on location based on IP Using Profile Zip Code For logged in, registered users who have provided this info in their profile. Providing a city, zip code, or state in the search box (a la Yelp) for unregistered users and to over-ride a registered users profile zip-code Event Search Ability to search for something by terms at any given time via an omnipresent input box As shown on the mockups, the req d fields are: Start Date (using Calendar Popup defaulting on today s date)
End Date ditto Type Dropdown with General BBQ, Chili, Rib Near No dropdown (despite mock) Should accept zip, city, or state entries (should work like Yelp s does) Keywords free form field to add keywords to further narrow a search Account Management Tool Bar at the top of the page in the mock. This will be different for users who are registered and users who are not. The current mocks do not show the items in the right order, wording, or situation (Signed in or not) - corrections are below: Logged In (in this order) User s Name and Profile Pic About Me Takes user to a page that shows them their user profile Defined below in Other Pages / Windows Account Settings Takes user to a page where they can edit their profile info, picture, password, email, newsletter setting, etc Defined below in Other Pages / Windows Sign Out Not Logged In Log in
will pop up a modal window for username/email and password, as well as standard forgot your password? feature Sign Up! should open a modal window that asks for all necessary user info to sign up Defined below in Other Pages / Windows an FB connect or Gigya button (TBD) at the top to make signing up easier Review a Festival Much like how Yelp has a nav bar element for Write a Review, we d like a call to action for users to write reviews be omnipresent. When clicked, the user will be taken to a page with a form with two fields: Festival Name Near (address, city, state, zip) just like the one used in the search form The button will say Search for Festival After submitted, the user will be taken to a search results page Defined below in Other Pages / Windows Invite Friends Much like how Yelp has a nav bar element for this, we d like a call to action for users to invite friends be on all pages, but we d like to have this be a modal window Defined below in Other Pages / Windows NewsLetter SignUp This will allow the user to subscribe to updates for as many or few Festival categories festival additions as they like for a certain zip, state, or city Defined below in Other Pages / Windows
Note: Odds are that we won t launch with this feature, and have a coming soon pop up for this to start Add a Festival Since crowd-sourcing events is a major function of the site, a button to add a festival will be on every page. Defined below in Other Pages / Windows Footer Link Table The links lists as shown in the mock just serve as a guide. Below are the lists and links we would like: All About and Help pages defined below in Other Pages / Windows ABOUT About FFN Terms of Service Privacy Policy NAVIGATE Write a Review Find a Festival Add a Festival Invite Friends HELP FAQ s Contact Us Content Guidelines Homepage This section explains the functionality that the user will see only on the Homeoage, which includes all Global Functionality explained above. Festivals You're Following This is a module to highlight the Festivals a user is currently
following, ordered chronologically from the closest to furthest in time. As shown in the mock, each teaser has the following: Thumbnail photo Update indicator (shown if there have been any updates since the user last visited) Date, Time (as shown in mock, just add time) City, State (to replace address and time as shown) View Festival Button that will take user to the Festival Detail Page Twitter and FB share buttons View All button Only appears if there are more than 4 festivals being followed Will take the user to a Search Results Page that only shows the festivals the user is following Defined below in Search Pages If the user is not following any Festivals, this list should be replaced with text that says 'you're not following any festivals yet check out what's going on around you!' which will link to the same page as the 'New Festivals Near You' module s View All button below (defined immediately below) New Festivals Near You A short list of new Festival entries near the user. If there no new Festivals near the user, this section would have the following content:
Nobody has recently added a Festival near you - why don t you add one? Add a Festival Button See Location Awareness in the Global section above for logic on which algorithm to use to determine a users location. Info displayed is the same as the teasers in Festivals You re Following The View All button Only appears if there are more than 4 new festivals near the user will take the user to a Search Results Page that shows all Festivals that are Near the user Defined below in Search Pages New Reviews Near You Just like the module with the same name on Yelp; a short list of recent reviews near the users current locations If there are no recent reviews near the user, this section will be replaced with the following content Nobody has recently written a review on a Festival near you - why don t you? Write a Review Button See Location Awareness in the Global section above for logic on which algorithm to use to determine a users location. Info displayed is the following: Festival Photo thumbnail Festival Rating Festival Title Date, Time (as formatted in Festivals You re Following, not as shown on mock)

Event Information The main information that people would come to this site for. It takes up most of the space above the fold, leaving only room for related content modules, with a small lead-in below for reviews. Name of Festival Rating this will be an average of the ratings given in reviews by registered users Dates (start date to end date) mock is wrong as it only shows start One Line Description Photos Main photo designated by Festival Owner or FFN
Admin Other photos added by users via the add a photo link Festival Keywords currently not links Address Google Map Contact Info Phone Number Email Website Organizer person / company Star Rating Allows users to give the festival an overall rating when they are writing a reviews Only allowed for registered users Reviews Users should be able to leave reviews of events from the event info page. We d like for them to be accessible to both registered and nonregistered users alike. For non-registered, we d like a platform like Disqus that would allow for increased user transparency and ease of use. For registered, the experience should be similar to that of a registered user on any site - if Disqus, or something similar that s OOB, can allow for this sort of handling of both users, that d be ideal. Comment on a Review
Allows users to add a comment to a review Was This Review Helpful? Simple thumbs up / down mechanism for rating the helpfulness of a review. Will be used to determine priority of reviews shown as teasers in the reviews near you module Search Reviews Allows a user to search the reviews for certain keywords or phrases note: this is not currently in the mock Flag Review The ability for any user, registered or not, to flag a review for moderation If the Festival has been claimed by an owner, it will notify the owner for review. If the Festival has no owner, an FFN moderator will be notified to review Share Event Gives the user the ability to share the event with friends on Twitter, Facebook, etc, using a best in class sharing module (aka ShareThis) Right now this is shown for by the FB and Twitter share icons on the mock, but we d like a more comprehensive sharing tool. Edit Business Info Like on Yelp, the option to edit an event info should be available. If there is no event owner, the changes will be sent to an FFN admin for moderation and approval.
If there is an event owner, the changes will be sent to him/her for approval Add to Calendar The ability to add an event to either your Google Calendar or icalendar should be available as long as there is a start date Follow The user should be able to follow an event so that they are notified whenever anything about an event changes such as: information changes, photos added, reviews added, etc Defined below in Search Pages I m Going This will add the user to the Who s Going list below the event details. Participants Link List of participants showcasing food, beverages, etc at this festival This is to be managed by the festival owner if there is one Who s Going List of FFN users who clicked I m Going OTHER PAGES / WINDOWS Search Results Pages All results pages will have the same styling and formatting for displaying search results, just different logic for what they show All Search results should have pagination and be limited to X search results per page TBD based on mocks Note: styling and formatting yet to be mocked up
