1. First This document provides the steps to use when updating CF-AX2[L/M/P/Q] Series (Windows 8 64 bit) from the Microsoft Windows 8 Professional operating system to Windows 8.1. (Information for updating from Windows XP/ Windows Vista/Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 are not included.) Before updating, please confirm information such as restrictions after updating to Windows 8.1 in the web page of "Windows 8.1 support evaluation information". In some cases, you should not update to Windows 8.1. Read all the documentation before you start updating your OS. Windows 8.1 Support and Upgrade Information http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/itn/support/win81info.html In addition, please begin updating after printing this document out beforehand. Notice If you do not have a Recovery disc, please prepare a Recovery disc. You might not be able to create a Recovery disc after the update. For instructions of creating a Recovery disc, read the [Operating instructions]. 2. Updating to Windows 8.1 2-1. Steps for updating to Windows 8.1 Please perform updating with the following steps by all means. Step Work contents OS environment Step 1 Preparations necessary for updating Windows 8 Step 2 Backup important data Windows 8 Step 3 Downloading the programs for updating and extracting Windows 8 to the hard drive Step 4 Updating Drivers Windows 8 Step 5 Update to Windows 8.1 Windows 8 -> Windows 8.1 Step 6 Installation the drivers for Windows 8.1 Windows 8.1 Step 7 Windows Update Windows 8.1 Step 8 Installation of the applications for Windows 8.1 Windows 8.1 Detail procedure for each step is described below. The procedure described in this guide introduces the update steps for preinstalled application and drivers. 2-2. Detail procedure for updating All of the steps (Download the update programs, extracting files, and installing the drivers and applications) should be done by the same administrator account. Step 1: Preparations that are necessary for updating (OS: Windows 8) Prepare following items before updating. AC Adaptor (Connect to your PC when updating.) 3

Battery Pack (Insert to your PC when updating.) Setup DVD-ROM for Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit) Windows 8 Recovery DVD for your PC. (Please create this using Recovery Disc Creation Utility before starting update.) Information of Windows 8.1 about the applications that you installed to your PC and the peripherals you use for your PC. Operating Instructions for your PC Turn on the wireless switch [WIRELESS]. Please use LAN or WIRELESS LAN. Don t use WiMAX or WIRELESS WAN. Microsoft Account Registration Open Charm in the Start Menu by moving the mouse cursor to the top or bottom right corner of the screen and select [Settings]. Then select [Change PC settings] -> [Users] -> [Your account] -> [Switch to a Microsoft account]. As well updating to Windows 8.1 on Windows Store, please follow the instructions and prepare before updating. Step 2: Backup Important Data (OS: Windows 8) You should back up files that you created in the hard drive to a safe location (to external medias external hard drive, memory card, re-writable DVD and so on), before updating to Windows 8.1. It is strongly recommended to create a backup of the whole C drive using Windows 7 File Recovery ( ControlPanel > All ControlPanel Items > File History > left bottom corner). Some settings for the applications cannot be succeeded the settings which are set on the Windows 8. Please write down the necessary settings before updating, and set up the necessary settings again after setting up Windows 8.1 and the applications for Windows 8.1. Step 3: Downloading the programs for updating and extracting to the hard drive (OS: Windows 8) 1) Download the update programs for your PC from the Support Web, and save them to the hard drive or external media (e.g. external hard drive, memory card, rewritable DVD and so on). The files are different depending on the model. Please download the files of the corresponding model on the download page of each model. 2) Extracts all of the downloaded files according to the following procedure. (1) Double-click the downloaded file. (2) At [User Account Control] screen, click [Yes]. (3) When the license agreement appears, read carefully the license agreements, and then click [Yes(Y)]. (4) When the [Destination Location] screen appears, you don t need to change from default destination. The default destination is [C:\util8]. Click [OK]. (5) The folder appears when extracting finishes. Close the folder. (Wait for a while depending on download size.) The following application is not compatible with Windows 8.1. - Intel(R) WiDi 4

For the following application, you need to check the version before updating Windows 8.1 - McAfee AntiTheft Launch McAfee AntiTheft, and confirm if the version is 2.3 on the console screen. If the version is 2.3, continue updating to Windows 8.1. If the version is not 2.3, uninstall McAfee AntiTheft and then continue updating to Windows 8.1 Step 4: Updating Drivers (OS: Windows 8) (1) Install Intel(R) HD Graphics Driver 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\videocrv3] folder. 2) Right-click setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and install. Step 5: Update to Windows 8.1 (OS: Windows 8 -> Windows 8.1) Update to Windows 8.1 with setup DVD (64bit) Note: Make sure to follow the restrictions below until all of the procedure finishes. - The AC adaptor should be connected and the fully charged battery pack should be inserted. - Any peripheral equipment should not be connected unless instruction tells to do so. - [AutoPlay] window appears automatically, then click [Run setup.exe]. If [AutoPlay] window does not open automatically, click [Start] [Computer] and double click the icon of DVD drive. Notice If checking compatibility message appears, you cannot update unless you uninstall those programs. (1) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Yes]. If you pc is connected to the internet, on the [Get important updates] screen, select [Download and install updates (recommended)]. Then click [Next] 5

(2) At [Product key] screen, input the product key for Windows 8.1, then click [Next]. (3) At [License terms] screen, carefully read the license terms and add a check mark for [I accept the license terms], and then click [Accept]. (4) At [Choose what to keep] screen, select [Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps] and click [Next]. (5) [Making sure you re ready to install] screen appears. 6

(6) If the message [Ready to install] appears, click [Install]. (7) The message [Installing Windows 8.1] appears and starts updating. It takes about 1 hour for updating and restarts two or three times repeatedly. During update, particular operations are not needed for you. (If you set the setup password, it is necessary to enter the password when the PC restarts.) Even though the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears on the screen when rebooting, DO NOT PRESS any key. Eject the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD from DVD drive. (8) After you ve installed, follow the instructions. [Initial Setup] Get online To get online, select the network you want to connect to, and the click [Next]. Settings Click [Use express settings]. Or, if you want to go through the details, click [Customize]. Sign in to your Microsoft account Input your existing Microsoft account, and then click [Next]. Help us protect your info (You can skip this step.) To verify your account, send a security code to a phone or email account that you have configured in your Microsoft account security setting. Select your email to receive a security code, and then click [Next]. Enter the code you received Check your email, and enter the account security code, and then click [Next]. If you completed, select restore setting and then click [Next] SkyDrive is your cloud storage Click [Next]. Or, if you want to turn off SkyDrive, click [Turn off these SkyDrive settings]. Update to Windows 8.1 on Windows Store 1) On the Start screen, open Windows Store. 2) Access Windows 8.1 Update and click [download]. 3) The message [install] appears and starts updating. After you ve installed, follow the above [Initial Setup] instructions. 7

Step 6: Install drivers for Windows 8.1 (OS: Windows 8.1) (1) Install Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse.[c:\util8\drivers\dptf_crv] folder. 2) Double-click setup(.exe). 3) Follow the message displayed and update. 4) After reboot, Open [File Explorer], and browse.[c:\util8\drivers\dptf_crv] folder. 5) Double-click LPOSetting(.js). At [User Account Control] screen, click [Yes]. (2) Update Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology 1) Right click the bottom left corner of the screen, or press [Windows Key + x Key], and click [Programs and Features]. 2) Right click [Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology], then click [Uninstall]. 3) Follow the message displayed and uninstall. 4) Open [File Explorer], and then browse [C:\util8\drivers\rst] folder. 5) Double-click SetupRST(.exe). 6) Follow the message displayed and install. (3) Update LAN Controller 1) Right click the bottom left corner of the screen, or press [Windows Key + x Key], and click [Device Manager]. 2) Double-click [Network adapter] -> [Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection]. 3) Click [Update Driver (R)] in the [Driver] tab. 4) Click [Browse my computer for driver software (R)] 5) In [Search for driver software in this location:], type [C:\util8\drivers\lan82579\PRO1000\Winx64], and click [Next (N)]. 6) Follow the message displayed and update. (4) Install Wireless WAN Software [Wireless WAN(F5521gw) models only] 1) (For F5521gw) Open [File Explorer], and then browse [C:\util8\drivers\wwan_07] folder. 2) Right-click setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and install. (5) Update Wireless LAN Software 1) In [File Explorer], browse [C:\util8\drivers\wlan_d135682\Win7Plus\Win64\Install]. 2) Right-click silent_w81(.bat), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Command prompt window will be displayed, wait until it is closed. (6) Update Intel(R) Chipset Device Software 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\intelinf] folder. 2) Double-click Setup(.exe). 3) Follow the message displayed and update. (7) Update Intel(R) Management Engine Component 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\me] folder. 2) Right-click Setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and update. 8

(8) Install Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba 1) Open [File Explorer], and then browse [C:\util\drivers\bluet] folder. 2) Right-click Pinstall(.bat), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Command prompt window will be displayed, wait until it is closed. (9) Update Touchpad driver 1) Right click the bottom left corner of the screen, or press Windows Key + x Key, and click [Programs and Features]. 2) Right-click [Synaptics Pointing Device Driver], and click [Uninstall]. 3) Follow the message displayed and uninstall, then restart computer. 4) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\mouse_s] folder. 5) Double click Setup(.exe) inside the folder. 6) Follow the message displayed and install, then restart computer. (10) Update Sound driver 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\sound] folder. 2) Right-click Setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and install, then restart computer. (11) Update SD card controller 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\sd_re5229] folder. 2) Right-click setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator] 3) Follow the message displayed and install. (12) Update System Interface Device Driver 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\sid] folder. 2) Right-click Pinstall(.bat), and click [Run as Administrator] 3) Command prompt window will be displayed, wait until it is closed. (13) Update Sensor Firmware To update the sensor firmware, observe all warnings and cautions. Failure to update the firmware may require the repair. You will have to pay for this repair even within the warranty period. [Caution] Connect the AC adaptor and the battery pack, do not remove them until the update is complete. Eject all USB devices. Close all running programs. 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse [C:\util8\drivers\sensfirm] folder. 2) Right-click Setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and install. 9

Step 7: Windows Update (OS: Windows 8.1) 1) Open Charm, then enter PC setting screen by selecting [Settings] -> [Change PC Settings]. 2) From [Change PC Settings] -> [Update and recovery] -> [Windows Update], click [Check now], to check if there are any updates. 3) Click [View details] and install all important updates. Step 8: Install applications for Windows 8.1 (OS: Windows 8.1) If the following application has installed, follow Step1 and Step2. Applications that are not required, please install the ones you use. Step 2: Install of Windows 8.1 applications. 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse above folder. 2) Right-click Setup(.exe), and click [Run as Administrator]. 3) If there are two or more Setup files, right-click the file of witch type is Application. 4) Follow the message displayed and install. Install the following applications only if necessary. (1) i-filter 1) Open [File Explorer], and then browse [C:\util8\ifilter] folder. 2) Right-click if6_600240122_v6pa_64bit(.exe), then click [Run as administrator]. 3) Follow the message displayed and install, then restart computer. 3. Appendix 3-1. About files under C:\util\ DO NOT install Windows 8 applications from C:/util folder for Windows 8.1 applications 10

you have downloaded from C:/util8 folder. 3-2. If Windows 8.1 takes long time when rebooting Please disconnect and connect an AC adaptor. Then, open the Task Scheduler and click Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WindowsBackup, and right-click ConfigNotification to change this task to invalid. 3-3. If Windows 8.1 cannot go to sleep mode 1) Open [File Explorer], and browse.[c:\util2\drivers\touch] folder. 2) Double-click WaitWakeEnabled(.reg). 3) Restart computer. 4. Restrictions 4-1.
