INTRODUCTION Preservatech's PMCG generator is a miniature humidity control device for museum showcases and similar small sealed enclosures. This unit can reliably control humidity for individual well sealed enclosures. When properly installed, this microclimate control system will typically maintain the relative humidity level in a sealed enclosure within two percent (or less) of an operator determined value. Depending upon the ambient temperature conditions and enclosure construction, relative humidity levels of less than twenty to over sixty percent can be attained. This unit will work only with high quality display cases with an air change rate of 0.2 per day or better. This manual will assist you in installing and setting up the unit as well, it contains complete instructions on operating the unit. Please note the cautions and warnings, as the unit may not provide optimum performance if all directions are not carefully followed 3 www.preservatech.com
DIMMENSION PACKING LIST Every machine shipment consists of: 1. PMCG generator. (1 pc) 2. Silicone hose for connecting to display case (2 m) 3. Through wall air connector (2 pcs) 4. Humidity sensor. (1pc) 5. Power cord. (1 pc) Optional (not included in standard package) 6. External alarm cable and LED. 7. External booster fan 4 www.preservatech.com
INSTALLATION The PMCG unit re-circulates air inside the case. Installation is very simple and includes: - Connection of the PMCG unit to the case, using two flexible hoses made of silicone (or other material approved by conservator), hoses outside diameter: 7/8-22 mm (included) - Hose connecting machine OUT port with the case should be as short as possible, input hose can be longer. - Installation of the RH sensor inside the case (to get most stable humidity inside the case, sensor should be located close to the air input but not directly in the air stream). - Connection to a standard, grounded power outlet 100-240VAC. WARNING: POWER OUTLET MUST BE PROPERLY GROUNDED. - Setting up proper RH level (see next chapter) DISPLAY CASE Distance between air fittings, should be as far away as possible SENSOR PMCG 5 www.preservatech.com
SETTING UP The machine is controlled by a microprocessor located at the front of the machine. Using 5 buttons, located on the right side of the display, it is possible to switch display between, "RH" - actual value of RH measured by machine sensor (left top button) "SET" - target RH value (left bottom button) and "ALA" - out of range alarm deviation (center button). See detailed instruction below. For more comprehensive instruction of microprocessor programming, please see our "PMCG - Programming Manual". Shows actual RH value measured by machine sensor RH-measured humidity-read only SET-target humidity Target RH value. Press GREY button, change value using up/down buttons, save with GREY button INCREASE/DECREASE VALUE ALA-out of range alarm Value offset for OUT OF RANGE ALARM. INCREASE/DECREASE VALUE Alarm will be triggered when RH>(SET+ALA) and/or when RH<(SET-ALA) 6 www.preservatech.com
ALARM CONNECTION PMCG machines have an alarm connector on the back of the machine. Optionally the machine can be shipped with 2 meters of cable and a small red LED light. LED can be located away from the machine, to indicate "RH OUT OF RANGE" status. connected properly: RED to BROWN and BLACK to BLUE. LED light is powered by 12 VDC and LED's leads should be DATA LOGGER Some of the machines are equipped with a built-in data logger. The data logger records the actual measurements on a SD card (not included). Time intervals can be changed between 1 and 60 minutes in 1 minute increments, please see "Programming Manual". Data written on the SD card, can be read in our free software or in any other software able to read CSV files (eg. Excell) IMPORTANT: SD Card used in our data loggers must be formatted as FAT32 file systems. Other file systems are not compatible with data loggers. For properly working data logger, Date and Time as well as LOG parameter, must be properly set. Please see pages 12-16 for instruction how to set Time, Date and LOG parameters. LOG represents interval between writing data od SD Card in minutes. LOG = 0 Data logger is turned off. 7 www.preservatech.com
MASTER SLAVE CONFIGURATION PMCG machines can be set in Master-slave configuration. There are two possible Master/Slave modes: A SETTING MODE IN THIS MODE, ANY PMCG AND/OR MINI ONE UNITS CAN BE CONNECTED TOGETHER. One machine is set as a Master unit then connected to the remaining machine(s) by Ethernet cable using cable splitters. Slave units (receiving units) have their own sensors. The Master unit only sends a signal of the set value to the slave controllers. MASTER SLAVE SLAVE SLAVE Ethernet This mode is good if there are many PMCG s (or Mini Ones) and all of them should be set to the same value. Master units work as a remote: setting all other units to the same humidity value. 8 www.preservatech.com
B- FULL MASTER/SLAVE MODE IN THIS MODE, ONLY SAME MODEL MACHINES CAN BE CONNECTED. One machine is set as Master and one is set as Slave. Slave unit doesn t have a sensor and works exactly as the Master unit. MASTER SLAVE Ethernet This mode is best if two machines are working with a single, larger display case. 9 www.preservatech.com
SLAVE MASTER PMCG - MANUAL Setting machine to be used as Master or Slave Any machine can be set as Master or Slave. To set a machine to work as Master/Slave, few parameters in the controller software must be changed. Setting Mode 1. All machines to be part of master/slave configurations need to be connected using standard Ethernet cables and cable splitters (easily available in any computer store). Connector is located on the back wall of the machine and is marked as NETWORK. All machines are connected to the cases in the same way as in independent mode. 2. Master unit need to be reprogrammed as follows: Parameter Value to be set Factory set value Notes 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 3. Slave unit(s) needs to be reprogramed as follows: Parameter Value to be set Factory set value Notes 2.99 0 Each slave unit needs to have own unique address. 0 0 No change to factory set 0 0 No change to factory set 0 0 No change to factory set 10 www.preservatech.com
Every time, set value on MASTER UNIT will change, all slave units will change their own set value to match master value. PLEASE SEE PROGRAMMING CHAPTER FOR EXACT INSTRUCTION HOW TO ENTER PROGRAMMING MODE. B. FULL MASTER/SLAVE MODE In this configuration, only one pair of machines can be connected (one Master, one Slave). The Slave unit will receive all readings from the Master unit and mimic the Master unit operation. Controller on the Slave unit will not work and sensor on slave unit is disconnected. Display on Slave unit will change to S. Machines can be connected to the controlled case in series or parallel. In Series Hose from the case is connected to the Air from case connector on the Master unit, Air to case on Master is connected to the Air from case on the Slave unit and Air to case on Slave is connected to the display case. (Display case needs a total of two air connectors 1 per unit) Parallel Both machines are connected to the display case same way as single machine. (Display case needs a total of 4 air connectors 2 per unit) Both machines need to be connected together using standard Ethernet cable. Connector is located on the back wall of the machine and is marked as NETWORK. ONLY MASTER UNIT NEEDS SENSOR CONNECTED. 11 www.preservatech.com
SLAVE MASTER PMCG - MANUAL 1. Master unit needs to be reprogrammed as follows: Parameter Value to be set Factory set value Notes 1 0 0 0 2 0 This number must be same as parameter Adr on slave unit. 0 0 2. Slave unit(s) needs to be reprogramed as follows: Parameter Value to be set Factory set value Notes 2 0 0 0 No change to factory set 0 0 No change to factory set 1 0 When the controller displays S the machine is working as a full slave unit. In this mode, both machines are controlled by master unit. PLEASE SEE PROGRAMMING CHAPTER FOR EXACT INSTRUCTION HOW TO ENTER PROGRAMMING MODE. 12 www.preservatech.com
