InfraGML Linking pin between Geo and BIM Marcel Reuvers (Geonovum) 4 november 2014
GIS Roads DTM GIS scope: Scale 1:500 1:25:000 Coordinates system CRS Features Topology networks Themes Cables and pipes OGC / ISO/TC 211 WMS, WFS, GML, CityGML, etc.
BIM BIM scope: Very large scale Very detailled Coordinates system Element composition BuildingSmart IFC
OGC < - - > BuildingSmart Feature Object Geo Position Coordinate Shape File Propriatory BIM OGC Building Smart GML IFC UML Express Map Drawing GIS BIM Server
What s going on OGC Infra GML Building Smart IFC for alignment IFC for Roads IFC for Bridges Data Dictionaries AD4s in UK, Data dictionaries in Sweden and the Netherlands (CB-NL)
We need to work together BIM IFC Infra GIS OGC And we do!
Infra Infra scope: Large scale Detailled CRS Volumes Element composition IFC, LandXML, InfraGML
Problem of LandXML LandXML data format is currently not being supported by a Standards Developing Organization (SDO) No enhancements since 2009 (recently activated) Used worldwide to share land development, civil, survey and other infrastructure-related data Data is of value to the larger geospatial data community Currently not integrated with any OGC and IFC standards
LandXML assessment UML conceptual modeling of Alignments, Coordinate System, Pipe Networks and Survey exposed problems: optional content schema document structure choice compositor station data type weak point typing name optionality inconsistency case inconsistencies confusing plural names unique identifiersfixing these problems will break backwards compatibility With no enhancements in over 5 years, LandXML has failed to keep up with newer civil design methods and software
Fresh start InfraGML use case driven subset of LandXML functionality interoperability standard vs. negotiable template SDO support avoid possible legal issues enable OGC, TC211, BuildingSmart baseline consistency GML provides: feature model geometry support Etc. IFC provides: Smart detailed modelling of attributes Paramatric primitives Etc.
Alignment 1. In order to execute the strong collaboration in developing the InfraGML and the IFC Alignment use cases and conceptual schemas, a representative of the OGC DWG/SWG 'Land and Infrastructure' is invited to participate in the IFC Alignment project, and a representative of the bsi IFC Alignment project is invited to join the DWG/SWG on 'Land and Infrastructure'. 2. In accordance with the subject areas for InfraGML to be defined, it has to be clarified how the alignment project will be integrated within CityGML, InfraGML and the IFC alignment model. 3. The UML conceptual model needs to be issued as soon as possible in accordance with the IFC alignment project programme. 4. Further to the definition of use cases by InfraGML, a first list of use cases could be proposed for the experts alignment group.
Conclusions* The solution is not Geo or BIM but both Open Geospatial (GML) - GIS IFC - BIM LandXML developed to InfraGML OGC / IFC We need to work together and learn together No side has a monopoly of the answers We need harmonised data dictionaries Federated and linked data is more likely to be the answer than a single model Working together is the best solution, and we do! * Phil Jackson
