Q: How to setup the WDS link A. WDS Bridge Mode B. WISP Mode (Client + Router) C. Universal Repeater Mode (AP + Client) A. WDS Bridge Mode Topology (WNRT-632 acts as AP-1 & AP-2): STEP1. In AP-2, go to BASIC SETTING-> Primary Setup-> LAN IP Address to modify the IP Address to the one which is different with AP-1. In this case, set to 192.168.0.2. Save the setting and reboot it. 1
STEP2. Go to Basic Setting-> DHCP Server to disable the DHCP server in AP-2. Save and reboot it. STEP3. Configure to the static IP in PC-1 & PC-2 as following. PC-1: IP: 192.168.0.100/ Netmask: 255.255.255.0 PC-2: IP: 192.168.0.200/ Netmask: 255.255.255.0 STEP4. Go to Basic Setting-> Wireless-> WDS. Configure to a fixed Channel (e.g. 11), and then click Enter to configure the WDS setting. 2
STEP5. In WDS Settings page, set the AP Mode to WDS Only. Then, manually enter the MAC Address of AP-1 to the field of MAC 1. (Or click Scan AP to find the AP-1, and then copy to the field of MAC 1) 3
STEP6. Repeat the STEP4 to 5 in AP-1. The MAC 1 must be the MAC Address of AP-2. STEP7. Use command line tool to ping each other to check the link is successfully established. (In PC-1, ping 192.168.0.200, and in PC-2, ping 192.168.0.100.) 1) The channel must be the same in AP-1 & AP-2. 2) The encryption method and security key must be the same in both sites if configured. 3) To reduce interference, please site survey to check the channel occupied status. Then configure to the channel that is not used by too many wireless equipments. 4) Strongly suggested to use the same model of device to configure the WDS connection, otherwise, the connection might be failed with different brands of wireless router. 4
B. WISP Mode (Client + Router) Topology (WNRT-632 acts as AP-2): STEP1. Configure to Obtain an IP address automatically in the Client that connected with AP-2, in this case, the Client get IP 192.168.1.100. 5
STEP2. In AP-2, go to BASIC SETTING-> Primary Setup modify the LAN IP Address to the same network segment as AP-1. Then, click Change in WAN Type. STEP3. Configure the wireless mode to Wireless ISP(Client + Router), and then click Save. 6
STEP4. Click Scan AP to discovery AP-1, and select it from the drop-down list; click Copy to fill the related information of the AP-1 to the corresponding fields. STEP5. Select the WISP WAN Type, in this case, the ADSL modem was used PPPoE for internet connection. Then, enter the relative information for PPPoE dialup connection. STEP6. Click Save and remember to reboot the AP-2 to let the setting take effect. STEP7. Observe the Status page, in the System Status section; the AP-2 can get the IP. 7
STEP8. Use command line tool to ping DNS server to ensure the internet connection has been established successfully. 1) The AP-1 must configure to a fixed channel so that the connection will not broken. 2) The encryption method should be the same in both sites if configured. 3) If cannot login the Web UI, use command line tool to clear the cache. (c:\> arp -d) 4) In WISP mode, AP-1 & AP-2 can be the different brands & models. 8
C. Universal Repeater Mode (AP + Client) Topology (WNRT-632 acts as AP-2): STEP1. Configure to Obtain an IP address automatically in the PCs that connected with AP-1(PC-1) & AP-2(PC-2), in this case, PC-1 get IP 192.168.1.100 and PC-2 get IP 192.168.0.100. 9
STEP2. In AP-2, go to BASIC SETTING-> Primary Setup-> WAN Type, and then click Change. STEP3. Configure the wireless mode to Universal Repeater (AP + Client), and then click Save. 10
STEP4. Click Scan AP to discovery AP-1, and select it from the drop-down list; click Copy to fill the relative information of the AP-1 to the corresponding fields. STEP5. Click Save and remember to reboot the AP-2 to let the setting take effect. STEP6. Observe the Status page, in the System Status section; the AP-2 can get the IP from AP-1. In Wireless Status section, the relative information are correct as the same as AP-1. 11
STEP7. Use command line tool to ping AP-1 & DNS server to ensure the link and the internet connection are both established successfully. 12
1) The internet connection setting in AP-1 should be configured properly so that the PC & client can access internet successfully. 2) The AP-1 must configure to a fixed channel so that the connection will not broken. 3) The encryption method should be the same in both sites if configured. 4) If cannot login the Web UI, use command line tool to clear the cache. (c:\> arp -d) 5) In Universal Repeater mode, AP-1 & AP-2 can be the different brands & models. 13
