Additional System Notes Not supported: Office 365 (Cloud) and trial versions Click-To-Run supported, but only if the Office installation is on the local computer (not cloud) 64-bit versions of Office require a 64-bit supported installation package (by request, only) Before You Get Started Upgrading Microsoft Office or a Document Management System If you are installing, reinstalling or upgrading your Microsoft Office suite or Document Management System (DMS), you must first uninstall the Metadata Assistant prior to this step. Once the Office or DMS installation is complete, your computer/server is ready for the Metadata Assistant installation package. NOTE Applying Office service packs, hot fixes and/or updates will not require reinstallation or repairing of Metadata Assistant. Uninstalling the Metadata Assistant To uninstall the Metadata Assistant, go to the Control Panel. NOTE Before you start the uninstallation process, ensure ALL of Office applications and Document Management System are closed. Requirements Microsoft Office and two Microsoft components must be installed before running the Metadata Assistant installation file. Microsoft Components The required components below are packaged in the Metadata Assistant installation file (.exe). If they are missing from your computer, you will receive a prompt to install them. Microsoft.NET Framework 4.5 and higher* (*standard with Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012) and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (VSTOR 2010) Redistributable Installing Metadata Assistant Instructions Install Metadata Prerequisites 1. After downloading and saving the installation file, ensure that all applications are closed (e.g., email, DMS, Office applications). 2. Double click the.exe file to begin the installation. 3. If the computer does not have the required Microsoft components, you will see this dialog box listing the missing components. Click Install. NOTE If you prefer to download and install these components separately, visit the www.microsoft.com website to obtain these directly from the Microsoft downloads page. The default and recommended converter is already pre-selected and is called Payne PDF Converter. You can select a different PDF Converter. NOTE The installation wizard will automatically detect your email application and DMS. Type PayneGroup PDF Converter Payne Consulting PDF Publisher (Legacy) pdfdocs or Adobe Distiller Do not install PDF converter support Description PDF Converter Installs the PayneGroup-Aspose licensed PDF libraries (not full converter) Installs the PayneGroup-licensed PDF driver (not full converter) from Amyuni Technologies. These converters must already be licensed and installed on your computer. The PDF features available for the Metadata Assistant will utilize the chosen converter to print your files to PDF once the metadata has been removed. 9. Select any shortcut options, and then click Install. 10. Installation begins. Click Finish to complete the installation. Using Installation Switches If you prefer to install or uninstall the Metadata Assistant using the unattended method, the following are valid switches for a script. Please note that spaces are required between the /s and /v (as well as /s and /x and /v) syntax: Install Example 1: MA5Retail.exe /s /v" /qn" Example 2: MA5Enterprise.exe /s /v" /qb" Uninstall Uninstalling the Metadata Assistant, silently use the /x switch. Instructions Alternate Installation Package Format The Metadata Assistant default format is an.exe file which bundles in the required Microsoft components. However, if you prefer to use an.msi file format, this can be extracted from the setup.exe file. 1. Open the user's system Temp directory (%temp%). Keep this window open and visible. 2. Start the Metadata Assistant.exe installation file by using one of the following methods: Double-click the file Use a command line 3. In the Temp folder you will now see three temporary folders that follow a Product ID (GUID) naming convention. 4. Open each of these folders. One will contain the.msi installation file. The name of the file will be either MA5Enterprise.msi or MA5Retail.msi. 5. Copy and save the.msi to a separate location for use at a later time. 6. Cancel the installation once the.msi is extracted. 7. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of the install. Important Notes For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, you must run the.msi files with elevated privileges. The.msi files are supported per-machine and require administrator privileges to deploy them. o Launch the Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin) You must ensure that the program s prerequisites are installed prior to running the.msi. It is recommended you download these directly from the Microsoft website and install them before executing the.msi. Refer to page 3 of this document for information about the required Microsoft components. You can use the standard Microsoft Windows Installer switches to execute the.msi.
