Caution: Installation of the SAP GUI for Windows requires a moderate degree of technical skill. Occasional SAP users and those who aren t comfortable performing technical tasks should use the Web GUI instead. To access the Web GUI, open your Internet Explorer to the SAP @ GVSU page of Seidman s ERP Initiative Portal: http://leopard.scb.gvsu.edu:50000/irj/portal/login Use the link at the upper right to log in with your GVSU username and password, then use the links in the Web GUI section to choose the desired SAP system and client. System Requirements: To install the latest SAP GUI 7.30 version, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements: Windows-based PC running Windows 8, 7, Vista, or Windows XP with Service Pack 3; OR An Apple Mac, with a Virtual Machine software (VMWare, Fusion, Parallels) running Windows 8, 7, Vista or XP (Service Pack 3). System Memory (RAM) requirements: Windows XP: Minimum of 1 GB Windows Vista, 7, or 8: Minimum of 2 GB Mac with Virtual Windows Environment: Minimum of 2 GB Disk Space requirements: 2 GB of available disk space during the installation process. You can remove the installation file after the software installation to free up disk space. 250 MB of available disk space for the fully-installed application. Processor requirement: Window XP: 1 GHz or higher Window Vista: 2 GHz or higher Window7/ Window8: 2 GHz or higher Internet Browser: Internet Explorer version 6.01 or higher must be available because the SAP GUI needs operating system components that are installed together with the Internet Explorer. 2
Notes: Listed above are minimum system requirements to install and run SAP GUI 7.30. However, better system specifications are always recommended to ensure that SAP GUI 7.30 is running smoothly. Detailed Installation Instruction: SAP GUI 7.30 Detailed Installation Instruction: Note: SAP GUI for Windows is available for student and faculty user and is freely distributable under the terms of GVSU s SAP license. The program can be installed on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Window7/Window8. Although Windows Vista Home is not officially supported by SAP, no problems have been noted. Mac or Linux users cannot use the SAP GUI for Windows and must either install the SAP GUI for Java, or a Virtual Machine software (VMWare, Fusion, Parallels) running Windows OS, or connect via the Web GUI. Installation Steps: 1. IMPORTANT: You must start the SAP GUI for Windows installation process by ensuring there is no previous version of the software installed. You can do this by following these steps: a. Left clicks on the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. b. Click Control Panel 3
c. Click Uninstall a program d. If SAP GUI is present you should select it, click the Uninstall/Change button, and follow the steps to uninstall it before continuing. 4
e. Follow steps 1.a 1.d and uninstall Secure Login Client as well. f. Next, to completely remove all necessary files you must manually delete the FrontEnd folder and any saplogon.ini files. i. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\sap and delete the FrontEnd folder. 5
ii. Click Start and type saplogon.ini. iii. Delete any files with this name that are still on your computer. 6
2. Download the SAPGUI installation archive from the Seidman ERP Portal s SAP Downloads page a. Go to http://gvsu.edu/erp/ b. Log on with your GVSU credentials i. Username: GVSU username ii. Password: Your GVSU password 7
c. In SAP Downloads section, click Download the SAP GUI 7.30 installation archive (aprox. 850MB) 8
d. Next, click Save. NOTE: Depending on your internet browser setting, the file will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder, or the browser will ask you to choose the saving location for the file. Make sure that you remember the saving location. NOTE: Before extracting this archive you should close any unnecessary processes and programs. Often this extraction can take over 30 minutes on slower machines such as smaller, simple business laptops. 3. Extracting the zip file: a. Locate the gui730_0-10010496.zip file in your Download folder, or in the folder that you chose to save the file in the previous step. b. Right click on the gui730_0-10010496.zip file. A list of options will appear, click on Extract All c. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, click Browse to select the location that you want the extracted file to be located in. 9
d. After choosing the destination folder to extract the folder, click OK. e. After you chose the extract location, click the Extract button to begin the extracting process. It will take a couple minutes to extract the files. 10
4. Installing SAP GUI: a. Locate the NW_7.0_Presentation_ folder in the location that you selected in step 2.c. b. Locate the SeptupAll file. i. Double click on gui730_0-10010496 folder, ii. Double click on NW_7.0_Presentation_ folder, iii. Double click on PRES1, iv. Double click on GUI folder, v. Double click on Windows folder, vi. Double click on Win32 folder, vii. Double click on SetupAll file. viii. User Account Control pop-up, click on Yes, ix. The SAP Front-End Installer window will pop-up c. In the SAP Front-End Installer window, click Next. 11
d. Next, place a check mark next to SAP GUI for Windows 7.30 (Compilation 1). If you are in Business Intelligent course, select Business Explorer option box, then hit Next. 12
e. Hit Next again to perform the actual installation. When installation is complete you will receive a success message. f. Click Close to complete this step of the installation. 13
5. Install the GUI Patch provided on the ERP Initiative Portal. a. If necessary, refer to step 2a and 2b to navigate to the SAP Downloads page on the Siedman ERP Initiative Portal. b. Click the patch download link under the Files section. It should look like this: Download Patch <current patch level> for SAP GUI <current version>(aprox. <size>) c. After the download completes, double click the file to install the patch. You will see a popup like the one below. 14
d. Simply click next and start the installation process. Upon completion you should receive a success message like the one below. e. Reboot your computer to complete the patching process. 6. IMPORTANT: Add a setting called an environment variable that tells the SAP GUI for Windows where to find the saplogon.ini file. a. Open your computer s Control Panel b. In the Control Panel window, 15
i. Select System and Security, ii. Select System, iii. Select the Advanced system settings link at the left of the window 16
c. Click the Environment Variables button at the bottom of the window. d. In the environment variables window, under the System variables section, click the New button 17
i. Enter SAPLOGON_INI_FILE as the variable name, C:\Windows\saplogon.ini as the variable value, and click the OK button. This creates the new environment variable. 7. Start the SAP Logon application in order to force the program to create the initial saplogon.ini file. a. Double-click the SAP Logon shortcut that should have been placed on your desktop. b. Wait for the program to launch and ensure the Connections folder is selected on the left. c. The list should be blank at this point. Close the program. 8. Add our version of the configuration file, saplogon.ini, that tells the SAP GUI how to connect to Seidman s SAP servers. e. You can download the saplogon.ini file from SAP Downloads page of the ERP Initiative Portal. Please follow step 2.a-2.c to navigate to http://gvsu.edu/erp/, then 18
right-click on the Download the latest system list file (saplogon.ini) link and click Save target as to download the file. 19
IMPORTANT: Do not open the file with notepad or anything else. If you do this, the properties of the file will be changed and it will be useless. f. Locate and copy the saplogon.ini file that you just downloaded. Make sure you use internet explorer to download the file. g. Paste the saplogon.ini file in C:\Windows. i. Left click on the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. ii. Click on the Computer button. iii. In the Computer folder, double-click on the Local Disk (C:) icon. iv. Next, double click on the Windows folder. v. Next, right-click anywhere in the folder. An option list will appear, click paste. NOTE: An empty copy of the saplogon.ini file should have been created by the SAP GUI installer. Replace that file with the copy provided on the portal. 9. Test SAP Logon 730 to ensure the server list worked. 20
a. Double click the SAP Logon icon on your desktop that should have been created by the installer. b. Ensure that Connections is highlighted on the left. NOTE: If you do not see a list of servers like the screen shot above but instead your list is blank, you must follow the Additional Instructions at the end of this document. 21
10. You may delete the SAP GUI installation archive file you downloaded and the SAP GUI installer you extracted after the installation process is complete to free space on your computer s hard disk. IMPORTANT: If you are using a computer currently connected via Ethernet cable to GVSU s network, such as a faculty desktop, you do not need to connect to the VPN. Otherwise, follow the instructions below to connect to GVSU s VPN before installing Single Sign On. This is only necessary for the installation. After you complete this installation process, you will not need to use the VPN again. GVSU Network Connect Installation Instruction: 1. Log into GVSU s secure access SSL VPN at this link using your GVSU credentials: https://vpn.student.gvsu.edu 2. Start Network Connect. 3. If you receive a message at the top of the your browser about an ActiveX control, install it 4. If you receive messages saying Can this site be trusted and other related messages, accept them. 22
5. If you are asked to download the Juniper Network Connect installer, do so and then run it. This may not happen. Your browser may start the installation process automatically in which case you will see something like this on your screen: 6. If you are asked to download the latest Java version, follow the links, download it, install it and refresh your browser. After the Java set up complete you may continue with the on-screen prompts and verify your Java version if you choose. 7. Once Juniper Network Connect has been installed and is running properly you will see this symbol at the bottom right of your screen in the notification area. Single Sign On Installation Instruction: 1. Download the Secure Logon Client installation archive from the Seidman ERP Portal s SAP Downloads page e. Go to http://gvsu.edu/erp/ f. Log on with your GVSU credentials i. Username: GVSU username ii. Password: Your GVSU password 23
g. In SAP Downloads section, click Download the Secure Logon Client installation archive (aprox. 9MB) link 24
h. Next, click Save. NOTE: Depending on your internet browser setting, the file will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder, or the browser will ask you to choose the saving location for the file. Make sure that you remember the saving location. 2. Follow step 3.a-3.e in the SAP GUI 7.30 installation instruction section to locate and extract the SLC.zip folder. (Hold Ctrl and left click on the link to navigate to the referenced steps) 3. Installing Secure Logon Client: a. Install Root CA on client i. Right click on the ROOT_CA file ii. Click Install Certificate iii. Click Open 25
iv. Click Next v. Select Place all certificates in the following store, then click Browse vi. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities, then click OK 26
vii. Click Next viii. Click Finish ix. Click OK b. Install Registration Entries. i. In your SLC folder, double-click on the customer.reg file. ii. In the Open File Security Warning box, click Run 27
iii. In the User Account Control box, click Yes. iv. In the Registry Editor box, click Yes. v. Finally, click OK. c. Installing Server Login Client: i. In your SLC folder, double-click on the Secure Login Client x64.msi or the Secure Login Client x86.msi file, depending on if you are running a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows, respectively. 28
ii. In the Open File Security Warning box, click Run iii. In the Secure Login Client installation wizard, click Next. 29
iv. Select Custom, then click Next. v. Click Next once again. 30
vi. Now click Install. 31
vii. In the User Account Control box, select Yes. viii. The Secure Login Client installation wizard should indicate a successful installation. Click Finish. ix. In the Secure Login Client Installer Information box, select Yes to restart your computer. 32
Using the SAP GUI for Windows: STEP 1: Establish the Secure Logon Client: 1. Log on to secure server a. Double click on the SAP Logon shortcut on your desktop. b. Double-click any of the servers without non-sso in the name. c. Click OK to proceed past the first prompt. d. Enter your GVSU credentials into the fields 33
e. A message box Authentication process complete will pop up, click OK. Congratulations!!! You have successfully established a secure logon client. STEP 2: Logging on to SAP: 1. An icon for the SAP GUI will have been placed on your desktop. Double-click the icon to choose your desired SAP server and begin using SAP. 2. If you don t see any entries in the menu, be sure you ve selected the Connections tab. 34
3. Either select a system and click the Log On button, or simply double click a system entry to connect to that system. The SAP GUI will determine your identity from the credentials you obtained with the Secure Logon Client and automatically log you into the proper client. If you have an account in more than one client in the SAP system the SAP GUI will present you with a list of clients to which you can connect. 35
Additional Instructions Follow these instructions if your list of connections remains blank within the SAP Logon application. Show Hidden Files and Folders 1. Navigate to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options 2. In the Folder Options window, click the View tab and in the Advanced settings section select Show hidden files, folders and drives and click OK. 36
You will now be able to navigate to the necessary directories in the next steps. Copy the saplogon.ini File into the Correct Directory 1. Highlight the saplogon.ini file that you downloaded from the portal. 2. Right-click and select Copy. 37
3. Navigate to C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows. 4. Right click and select Paste. 38
5. When the popup comes up, click Copy and Replace. You should now see the list of servers when you start up SAP Logon 730. 39
