Modem Setup The VCMDM modem is initially set up with the Class Connection TM or VC-24 Programming Tool. USING THE PROGRAMMING TOOL To open the Programming Tool, click on the icon, or from the taskbar, click the Start button, point to Programs, select either the VC-24 or Class Connection programming tool. The Remote Modem Setup is found on the File, Communications, Setup, Remote Modem Setup. The program asks if you are using a US Robotics Sportster modem with DIP switches. If Yes was selected, with the modem power OFF, set the dip switches to the settings shown below and then click on OK. For a description of DIP switch functions, refer to the table below. Dip Switch Number SW1 SW2 SW3 SW4 SW5 SW6 SW7 SW8 Description Override DTR Verbal Result Codes Suppress Result Codes Echo Offline Commands Auto Answer on Ring Carrier Detect Normal Load NVRAM Defaults on Power-up Smart Mode The following screen is displayed after selecting No from the question of using a US Robotics modem, or after selecting Yes, setting the dip switches and pressing OK. 3 947225

1. Complete the instructions on the screen and click OK. The next screen to be displayed requests selection of a COM Port. Select the proper COM Port and click OK. The program then attempts to test the communication line between the PC and the modem. If the connection is okay, continue to Step 2. If the connection fails, you can Abort the setup, Retry the setup, or ignore the warning. 2. After establishing a successful connection, restore the modem's factory default settings as shown below by clicking on Yes. 4 947225

3. The default modem commands for the US Robotics Sportster appear below. Select the appropriate command string for the system type and modem being used. Click on Enter to send these commands to the modem. 4. Save the settings to the modem's memory by selecting Yes as shown in the figure below. 5. After modem setup is complete, a screen appears verifying a successful or unsuccessful setup. Once successfully programmed, the modem may be relocated and connected to the Class Connection TM or VC-24 System. Please note: A modem configured with the VC-24 programming tool cannot be used with the Class Connection TM. Likewise, a modem configured with the Class Connection TM programming tool cannot be used with the VC-24. 5 947225
