The Cisco Networking Academy at Erie Community College

The Academy History and Goals In existence since 1997, the Cisco Networking Academy delivers a comprehensive, 21st century learning experience to help students develop the foundational IT skills needed to design, build, and manage networks, along with career skills such as problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The Cisco Networking Academy courses not only educate and train students, but also prepare students for industry certification exams, like: CompTIA s A+ and Network+ Cisco s Entry-Level Certs, CCENT and CCNA Cisco s CCNA Specialty Tracks in Security and Voice Cisco s Professional Cert, CCNP Certification is the Key to Getting Hired Get Trained. Not only are Academy courses inexpensive, but the interactive, multimedia, online text book is free with the majority of our courses, along with a network simulator that can be used for building and testing networks Students can also download free software like Windows 10 Students can also qualify for half-price exam vouchers for taking the certification exams

Most of the academy course offerings are taught in a distance learning hybrid fashion, which means you re in the classroom only about half the time of a normal seated class Students can complete two classes and earn 6 college credits by attending class only one evening (or Saturday) each week during the 15 week semester Classes are held at ECC South, North, and Ingram Micro Note: Ingram Micro is conveniently located just across the street from ECC North

Fall 2017 Course Schedule (Cisco Academy courses only)

There are several ways to earn a degree that includes Academy courses: Pursue a one-year certificate degree in Network Support Technology Pursue a two-year associates degree in Networking and Telecommunications Technology Pursue a two-year associates degree in Information Technology with a Networking Concentration Pursue a two-year degree in General Studies using the transfer credits as free electives Use the credits earned as technical electives in any related four-year bachelors degree

The fastest way to earn a degree and jump-start your career is to enroll in the Network Support Technology Certificate Program: Students can complete the program and be job-ready in a little over 8 months, while attending class no more than twice per week The core courses were all developed and are delivered through the Cisco Networking Academy at ECC All of the core courses contain a hands-on lab component using actual equipment and/or simulation software Students completing the program are also prepared to take professional certification exams from Cisco and CompTIA.

The Network Support Technology Certificate Course Requirements Here is the suggested class schedule for completing the certificate program in two semesters: Semester 1 TE180 IT Essentials I (3 credits) TE181 IT Essentials II (3 credits) TE185 Network Fundamentals (3 credits) TE270 Routing and Switching I (3 credits) Semester 2 TE271 Routing and Switching II (3 credits) TE272 Accessing the WAN (3 credits) Approved Technical Elective (3-4 credits)* Approved General Education Elective (3-4 credits)* Students can begin the certificate program in the fall or spring semesters. Students only attend class two evenings (5:30-9:30) per week, or one evening and a Saturday (10am-2pm), depending on the current schedule.
