How to use the TwinSpace Each project has automatically its TwinSpace which can only be accessed by the members of the partnership and the people you decide to invite. You will find all the TwinSpaces related to your projects in the TwinSpace page. Use it to communicate and collaborate with your partners. A TwinSpace consists of: Home page Shared calendar Internal messaging system Chat room My Team page In addition, you can also create: Folders and sub-folders. Web pages, composed of headlines, descriptions, main content and a picture, Forums for discussions between students and teachers, File archives, where you can upload and download files of up to 5 Mb. Teachers having set up the partnership are automatically administrators and may edit and change their TwinSpace. They can invite new members to participate from My Team. To start work, go to Settings to create folders, file archives, forum and web pages. Guidelines are available from the question mark at the top right corner. Forum The forum can be accessed from the icon on the top bar and is based on threads and replies. Any member of the TwinSpace may post a new thread and reply to existing ones, as well as edit and delete own messages. Topic, author, date and number of replies are displayed. In order to facilitate communication between partners, messages and replies on specific subjects appear one after the other, so that users can see how the discussion has evolved. TwinSpace mailbox The Mailbox allows members of the TwinSpace to exchange internal messages. The mailbox works in the same way as the one on the etwinning Desktop. My Team This page contains information on the members of the TwinSpace and lists number of log-ins together with details of last log-ins. From here, administrators may change access rights, delete users, and invite new people to the TwinSpace. Email addresses, usernames and passwords of the new invitees must be entered into the system by the administrator. The invited person receives an email with his/hers log-in details. Each member of the TwinSpace has a personal page with User details, visible to the other members of the TwinSpace. Anybody taking part in the project can use this feature to get to know each other. Tip: If you want to invite other people like pupils who do not have a valid email address, you can always fake one. In this case, the username and password is the one you have selected when inviting these people. Calendar You can use the calendar to share information about events relevant to the partnership. By clicking on the date, you can list title, content, time and venue of the event. Bulletin board In the bulletin, you can display news that are relevant to your partners. Chat Use the Chat from the TwinSpace to talk in private with your partners in the TwinSpace. Clicking on Chat opens the chat room. Settings From Profile, you change your user details and upload a picture of yourself. From TwinSpace, you edit the details and description of your TwinSpace. From Content Management, administrators can create the following: Folders and sub-folders, Web pages, composed by headlines, descriptions, main content and a picture, Forums, File archives, where users can upload and download files. New items in the partnership are displayed in alphabetical order on the left navigation bar, and they may be made public by the administrator. In this way, the workspace may become a real web site, available for anybody on the Internet. Create folder, file archive or forum : Tick off folder, write title and description and submit. Create web page : Write text, upload picture (only one per web page) and submit. Publish the TwinSpace The TwinSpace provides tools for creating real web sites. If you want to make items in your TwinSpace public, go to Settings and click on publish. Tick the item you want to publish. If you want to hide the page from the public, tick off the box. The URL of the public entry page on the TwinSpace is displayed here. Anyone can then go to the page without logging on. To edit the page or get a preview, go to Settings, click on the item in the navigation bar, choose the page you want to appear on the screen and then click on the appropriate icon: etwinning Tools Guidelines Central Support Service September 2005 23

Assigning access rights From Settings in the TwinSpace, administrators can assign specific access rights to others in the folders, sub-folders, forums and file archives. Choose a folder from the navigation bar. Click on the icon. Tick the boxes to assign rights to other members, define if they can view, add, edit, delete or publish content.
