The VcRedist installer failed with error code 1603 Posted by mp26-25 Apr 2011 07:26 Hi, i have try t install it and get this error: The VcRedist installer failed with error code 1603. Features which require VcRedist may not operate properly. any idea why it's happening? Thanks, Pinto. Posted by jwrl - 25 Apr 2011 08:09 It's telling you that the Microsoft Visual C redistributable package is failing to install properly. This may happen for several reasons, but the most likely one is that you already have it installed on your PC as part of other software. If the install completes despite the error try launching LW and see what happens. If it runs you're fine. If it doesn't or the install aborts you can search for the latest VCredist on the Microsoft website and try installing it from there. If that version also fails to install you have an underlying problem on your system which will need to be fixed. If VC does install but LW failed to complete its install previously, reinstall it now. Your problem should be fixed. 1 / 5
Posted by mp26-25 Apr 2011 08:43 I have try to do a repair to VcRedist and rerun the installation, it's stay on this & not continue: Create folder: C:Program FilesLightworksLightworksInstaller Output folder: C:UsersPintoAppDataLocalTemp{9D64E2A2-A226-46B4-8565-C4C49FB1071B} Extract: vcredist_x86.exe Execute: "C:UsersPintoAppDataLocalTemp{9D64E2A2-A226-46B4-8565-C4C49FB1071B}Vcredist_x86.exe " /q:a /c:"msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn" If Visual C++ 2005 redistributables (build 4053) are not installed then the Lightworks application will not run. Posted by jwrl - 25 Apr 2011 09:19 At this stage I can't think of much else to try. Anyone else got any ideas? Posted by frandesouza - 26 Apr 2011 00:48 I had the very same problem when I installed the 10.0.1 beta, so I downloaded the vcredist_x86.exe installer from MS site, installed it, and then I was able to install Lightworks without issues. Posted by mp26-26 Apr 2011 03:34 i have try this already: 2 / 5
1. repair the VcRedist installation (download from Microsoft) 2. Uninstall & fresh installation nothing helps. Posted by Cookiecutter - 06 May 2011 12:00 Hi MePinto, Are you logged on to Windows as an Administrator? Posted by numi - 09 May 2011 20:42 I had the same problem. I had the idea to start the vcredist_x86.exe from the folder stated in the installation program. there it told me what the problem is and here is the fix: support.microsoft.com/kb/872904/en-us Posted by jan.navratil - 24 Nov 2011 17:25 same issue on my windows 7 x64 i have tried to download and install vcredist_x86.exe, but it didn't help - installation of Lightworks fails anybody has an idea what else could we try? Posted by bouvrie - 02 Dec 2011 13:32 I too have this problem. I'm expecting it's got something to do with x86 vs x64 architecture as I too am running Windows 7 x64. 3 / 5
I'm sure the application will run perfectly once it gets installed. Unfortunately the installer doesn't continue installation after it reaches the "error". Could this behavior be circumvented? Posted by Cookiecutter - 02 Dec 2011 13:35 Hi, You could try using the UPDATER installer (11mb) rather than the FULL installer (40mb) to see if it resolves the issue. I had the same issue and this worked perfectly. Posted by openmindsjon - 16 May 2012 03:10 1st attempt failed same error as above. I am logged in as administrator. As a shot in the dark, I right clicked install file and "Run as Administrator". Installed complete, no errors.. Strange but true. Posted by jwrl - 17 May 2012 01:22 4 / 5

When is an administrator not an administrator? When it's a Windows administrator. This is behaviour that Microsoft have, for reasons best known to themselves, designed into Windows. Dumb, I know.
