Introducing Citrix MetaFrame XP for Windows Overview What is MetaFrame XP for Windows? MetaFrame XP for Windows is the newest member of Citrix s award-winning MetaFrame product family. Based on proven MetaFrame technology, MetaFrame XP is the most powerful platform for application delivery and management specifically optimized for the Internet and Windows 2000 Servers. With MetaFrame XP, Citrix customers can deploy Windows applications to virtually any device over any network connection wired, wireless, Web all with the scalability, manageability and flexibility necessary for competitive advantage. Is MetaFrame XP a platform release? Yes, MetaFrame XP is a new platform release from Citrix. Last year, Citrix announced a new application delivery system that delineates between platform releases and feature releases. Platform releases, to be released approximately every 18-24 months, comprise a new platform architecture that enables new features. Feature releases, to be released approximately 2-3 times per year, contain new business functionality that can be easily applied to existing platform releases. Last September, Citrix introduced this new software delivery system with the release of Feature Release 1 for MetaFrame 1.8. Now, Citrix is pleased to provide this new MetaFrame platform release, called MetaFrame XP for Windows. What Microsoft Windows server platforms will MetaFrame XP support? MetaFrame XP is optimized for Microsoft s advanced Windows platforms, including Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter Server. MetaFrame XP is also designed to take full advantage of Microsoft s upcoming Whistler platform as soon as it is available. MetaFrame XP will also provide support for existing Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition customers. Will MetaFrame XP support Microsoft s next Windows platform, codenamed Whistler? Whistler is the Microsoft codename for the next generation of Windows technology. As Microsoft has not yet released Whistler, Citrix cannot currently certify MetaFrame XP on this new Windows platform. However, Citrix will certify MetaFrame on top of Whistler as it becomes available to the market. Will Citrix offer an XP version of MetaFrame for UNIX Operating Systems? Although the platform-independent qualities of MetaFrame XP make it possible to extend its advanced management capabilities to MetaFrame 1.1 for UNIX Operating Systems, Citrix is not making any announcements with respect to MetaFrame XP for UNIX at this time. What languages will MetaFrame XP be offered in? MetaFrame XP will be available in all five localized languages currently supported by MetaFrame 1.8, which include English, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish. Positioning What are the solutions found within the MetaFrame XP product family? Citrix has worked closely with customers and partners over the past 18 months to better understand the diverse needs and challenges associated with providing a complete application deployment and management system to many different types of customers. The MetaFrame XP for Windows family offers three tailored solutions that are designed to closely meet the needs of these diverse environments MetaFrame XPs, XPa, and XPe. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 2 Citrix Systems, Inc.

MetaFrame XPs The rapid application serving system designed as a base departmental or workgroup solution that extends the reach and manageability of Windows 2000 Terminal Services to any device, over any connection wired, wireless, Web. MetaFrame XPa The advanced application serving platform for Windows 2000 Servers designed for growing organizations that need to maximize application availability, aggregate applications and content, and provide comprehensive manageability and scale across the Net all from a single point of control. MetaFrame XPe The complete enterprise application serving infrastructure for environments that demand extensive scalability, rapid application delivery, seamless web integration, and robust management capabilities enabling unparalleled command and control. MetaFrame XP Product Family Why did Citrix create a family of MetaFrame XP solutions? Citrix created a family of MetaFrame XP solutions, based on extensive customer and partner feedback, to accommodate application serving environments of all sizes. By integrating advanced management capabilities into MetaFrame XPa and XPe, customers can more easily take advantage of the significant return on investment (ROI) and e-business enabling benefits of Citrix load management, system monitoring and analysis, application packaging and delivery, and integrated network management capabilities. What features are contained within each solution of the MetaFrame XP product family? Table 1 depicts some of the high-level features contained within each MetaFrame XP solution. Table 1: MetaFrame XP for Windows Product Family MetaFrame XPs MetaFrame XPa MetaFrame XPe Total "Net" Leverage NFuse integration Support for corporate portals Application filtering and caching Web-based client installation Ultimate Flexibility Seamless user experience Access to local system resources Security Universal connectivity Unparalleled Manageability & Scale Printer management Centralized license management Advanced shadowing Client management Application publishing Application-based load management Application scheduling Monitor system health and performance Perform system capacity planning Centrally install and uninstall applications Distribute service packs, updates and files Management access through HP and Tivoli Support for standard SNMP monitoring Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 3 Citrix Systems, Inc.

How can customers decide which MetaFrame XP solution is right for a given environment? Although there is no such thing as a typical customer, the following list outlines some guidelines for the type of customer that may find a specific MetaFrame XP solution most appropriate for their environment: MetaFrame XPs Base application serving system designed for departmental workgroups with a total of between 1-5 individual, non-load-balanced MetaFrame servers MetaFrame XPa Advanced application serving platform designed for growing organizations with a total of between 2-100 load-balanced MetaFrame servers MetaFrame XPe Enterprise application serving infrastructure designed for enterprise environments with a total of between 20 1000+ load-balanced, managed MetaFrame servers Are the advanced management capabilities in MetaFrame XPa and MetaFrame XPe sold separately? No. MetaFrame XP was designed as a family of integrated solutions targeted to meet the needs of diverse customer environments. The advanced management capabilities of MetaFrame XP platform are only available by purchasing one of the three solutions found within the MetaFrame XP product family. Will Citrix offer any of these advanced management capabilities on MetaFrame 1.8? At this time, the newly enhanced and integrated advanced management capabilities are only available as part of the MetaFrame XP family. There are currently no plans to deliver this advanced functionality on the MetaFrame 1.8 platform. Citrix will continue to offer 1.0 versions of Load Balancing Services, Resource Management Services, and Installation Management Services for the MetaFrame 1.8 platform. Can customers mix MetaFrame XPs, XPa, and XPe servers within the same managed server farm? Yes, but it is not recommended as customers may not be able to take full advantage of all connection licenses in the farm as connection license pooling is family-dependent. Meaning, MetaFrame XPe connection licenses can connect to all flavors of MetaFrame XP servers (MetaFrame XPe, XPa, and XPs) and can be easily pooled. However, MetaFrame XPa connection licenses can only connect to MetaFrame XPa or XPs servers, and MetaFrame XPs connection licenses can only be used to connect to MetaFrame XPs servers. If a customer requires complete connection license pooling across a mixed server environment, they should purchase additional connection licenses consistent with the highest level of MetaFrame XP servers in the mixed farm. Is MetaFrame XP a replacement product to MetaFrame 1.8? No. MetaFrame XP for Windows is a new platform that extends the value proposition of MetaFrame 1.8 to a much wider market segment. Citrix will continue to promote, sell, and support MetaFrame 1.8 for Windows. Since many customers will continue to deploy MetaFrame 1.8, MetaFrame XP should not be considered a replacement product to MetaFrame 1.8. Will Citrix continue to provide Feature Releases on the MetaFrame 1.8 platform? While Citrix is prepared to provide additional Feature Releases in the future for the MetaFrame 1.8 platform, the ultimate decision to provide additional Feature Releases on MetaFrame 1.8 will be based upon feedback from our customers and business partners. No announcements on future Feature Releases are being made at this time, but we will continue to aggressively monitor market feedback. When should a customer consider MetaFrame XP instead of MetaFrame 1.8? With the significant improvements in scalability, manageability, and functionality, Citrix encourages both new and existing customers to choose MetaFrame XP for the best application delivery and management system available today. However, Citrix understands that some customers will have practical limitations to how quickly they can begin full-scale adoption of MetaFrame XP for Windows. It is for exactly that reason that Citrix will continue to market, sell, and support MetaFrame 1.8. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 4 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Why didn t Citrix call this product MetaFrame 2.0? MetaFrame XP is the next generation MetaFrame platform and was intended to significantly extend the core value proposition of MetaFrame 1.8 to more diverse customer environments. With the exponential advances in scalability, manageability, functionality and core platform technology, to consider MetaFrame XP anything other than a new, extended application delivery and management platform would completely understate the significance of this product to the market and to our customers. Is Citrix XP related to the Microsoft XP effort? While these two very different products share the same two letters, XP, they have very distinct complete product names. No one would look at product names Citrix MetaFrame XP and Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Office XP and think they were identical or even necessarily related products. Car manufacturers use similar naming conventions yet there is no confusion between a Pontiac GTO and a Ferrari GTO. Similarly, there is no confusion between a compact disk and a certificate of deposit, though both go by the name CD. While both Microsoft and Citrix came to the term XP from separate paths, it s not surprising that we arrived at a similar place with this naming, given the recent popularity of using the letter X to mean multiple things. Our MF XP product continues to focus on helping enterprise companies deploy and manage business applications (and according to Microsoft, the XP naming structure they recently announced is a shortened version of the word experience, which symbolizes the rich user experiences they claim Windows and Office users will realize at home and work). We have entered a new era in computing where X is coming to stand for lots of things: extended value, experienced positioning, extensible capabilities, expanded features, and so on. X is hot, and we have an XP product already for sale as others work to bring X products to market in upcoming quarters. Available right now, Citrix MetaFrame XP is optimized to work with Microsoft s current server product, Windows 2000 Terminal Services, as well as the subsequent Whistler server platform as it evolves, regardless of whether or not more products eventually end up carrying the XP naming. What does your XP stand for does it stand for the same thing as Microsoft s XP? Microsoft needs to comment on exactly what its XP stands for. At Citrix, XP stands for a lot of different things. As in algebra, X is a variable term that stands for many different things depending on the situation and need. Our product has historically done many different things for IT departments and end users based on their needs sort of like a Swiss Army knife. The notion of an X platform carries that idea forward. Did you talk with Microsoft/know about this naming similarity before the launch? Absolutely. Microsoft is our closest partner. We have co-development organizations and Citrix developers colocated with Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, so we stay closely connected to development efforts in Microsoft s Server products organization. While the currently announced Microsoft XP product is being developed in the Windows Desktop Group and Office Group that we don t typically deal with (as this is not the group our product integrates with), we were aware of the Windows Desktop and Office Group s plans to use the XP name and discussed this with senior Microsoft executives prior to our launch of MetaFrame XP. The result of these discussions was that given the current naming trends in computing, it made sense for both companies to move forward along the naming approach that each had in the works. Did you know MS was going to use XP when you chose to use XP? When we first decided to use XP, we did not know that Microsoft was following along a similar path for its Whistler desktop operating system or its Office suite, as that is not a part of Microsoft we typically deal with most closely since it is not the product line that Citrix MetaFrame works with. When we did become aware of this, we felt it was OK, and in fact logical, that two separate efforts would conclude that this was a strong name in today s computing world. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 5 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Does MF XP work with MS XP? MF XP is an enterprise customer product while Microsoft Windows XP desktop operating system for home and work and Office XP is a desktop application suite. So a question about them working together is confusing the different products functionalities. Citrix MetaFrame XP runs in conjunction with Microsoft s Windows 2000 Server product and will work with the Whistler server product when that becomes available from Microsoft. Also, Citrix has always had a version of our ICA client for Windows 32 bit environments available for the desktop operating system Microsoft offers (and will be calling XP with the Whistler platform). Users of our ICA client would be able to access applications published through the application delivery services provided by the combination of MetaFrame XP and Microsoft s Terminal Services. Does this naming similarity mean your products are aligning more closely with Microsoft s consumer products? Currently, the XP product Microsoft has announced is relevant both in the desktop operating system and office suite spaces, not the business application serving space that Citrix plays in. Citrix MetaFrame XP is intended for business use in connection with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and the subsequent Whistler server products. If you knew about this same name for products with a different focus, why didn t you work to avoid the natural element of confusion? While the focus is different with respect to Citrix targeting business customers with products that include the letters XP, the thrust behind using X with terms like platform is both timely and topical in connection with consumers in one case and businesses in the other: for Citrix, X stands for things like extended value, experienced positioning, extensible capabilities and expanded features Technical Considerations Has server farm and user scalability been enhanced with MetaFrame XP? Yes. The scalability of MetaFrame XP has been significantly enhanced. With MetaFrame XP, customers can have hundreds and thousands of MetaFrame XP servers co-existing within the same server farm, supporting tens of thousands of concurrent user connections, with the manageability necessary to take full advantage of this new scale. Can multiple language versions of MetaFrame XP exist in the same server farm? Yes. One Citrix Management Console can monitor and manage English, German, French, and Spanish MetaFrame XP servers. (Japanese MetaFrame XP servers cannot operate in the same farm as non-japanese servers.) However, it is recommended that the language of a given application match the language of the Windows operating system and the language of the MetaFrame software (i.e., English applications on English Windows 2000 with English MetaFrame). Will MetaFrame XP interoperate with MetaFrame 1.x and WinFrame 1.x? Yes. MetaFrame XP may run in interoperability mode. However, when running in this mode, many MetaFrame XP features (i.e., Citrix Management Console, load management, etc.) will be unavailable. Thus, it is recommended that MetaFrame XP only run in interoperability mode when in the process of upgrading the entire server farm to MetaFrame XP. Does MetaFrame XP support license pooling with non-metaframe XP platforms? Yes. However, MetaFrame XP must run in interoperability mode. This mode is only recommended during a phased migration to a pure MetaFrame XP server farm. Will existing ICA Clients work with MetaFrame XP? Yes. Citrix ICA Clients are both forward and backwards compatible, and will work with both MetaFrame XP and 1.8. However, as Citrix adds new ICA-based features, some features will only be available by using the latest ICA Clients. Thus, it is recommended that MetaFrame XP customers use the latest ICA Clients at all times. The latest ICA Clients may conveniently be found at http://www.citrix.com/download. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 6 Citrix Systems, Inc.

What versions of Citrix NFuse are compatible with MetaFrame XP? MetaFrame XP comes standard with NFuse 1.51. MetaFrame 1.8 supports NFuse 1.5. Existing MetaFrame 1.8 customers do not need to deploy NFuse 1.51 since the only updated functionality relates to MetaFrame XP compatibility. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 7 Citrix Systems, Inc.

What s New in MetaFrame XP The following is a list of new features that can only be found within MetaFrame XP: Citrix Management Console. This comprehensive tool is the command center for the entire MetaFrame XP server farm. It gives administrators single-point control of all system resources servers, applications, licenses, printers and users for exceptional management power and simplicity. Application-based Load Management. Taking server farm load balancing to a new level, this feature lets administrators customize rules to optimize server resources in any given environment. Application scheduling permits administrators to schedule application availability to accommodate routine application and database maintenance. (MetaFrame XPa & XPe only) System Monitoring and Analysis. With this capability, administrators can centrally monitor and manage the server farm to ensure continuous, smooth operation. Capabilities include auditing and reporting application usage, and setting thresholds and alerts. (MetaFrame XPe only) Application Packaging and Delivery. This capability eases the administrative burden of installing and uninstalling applications on servers in large server farms. With the click of a mouse, administrators can replicate applications across the entire farm, saving time and effort. (MetaFrame XPe only) Network Management. Enterprises that use network management software from leading providers, such as HP and Tivoli, can incorporate MetaFrame XP server farms into these solutions and administer them through the native network management console or a customized version of the Citrix Management Console. (MetaFrame XPe only) Active Directory Support. MetaFrame XP supports Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory, allowing administrators to publish applications to Active Directory users and groups. Users can log onto MetaFrame XP using their full Active Directory-based username and password. NFuse Ready. Citrix NFuse technology, which allows interactive applications to be published to users via a Web portal, is now built into MetaFrame XP. Now MetaFrame XP automatically installs and configures NFuse when the presence of a Microsoft IIS Web server is detected. Printer Management. Even in diverse printing environments, administrators can efficiently manage resources and ensure end-user satisfaction, thanks to tools enabling printer driver replication and client printer compatibility. Additionally, to maximize their personal productivity, end users can now specify the amount of bandwidth that printing consumes further enhancing the usability of printing over low-bandwidth connections. Shadowing Enhancements. With increasing concerns for personal privacy and corporate security, Citrix now enables shadowing instances to be logged, and provides an on-screen indicator when an administrator is shadowing a user. Shadowing is now offered as an installation option to accommodate organizations whose privacy policies prohibit user monitoring. Client Time Zone Support. In today s distributed enterprises, users may be accessing MetaFrame XP from around the world. Now these applications run in the context of the user s local time zone, ensuring accuracy of records and appointments. Expanded Scalability. Citrix application serving environments can now encompass hundreds to thousands of MetaFrame XP servers supporting tens of thousands of users all within a single server farm. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 8 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Reduced IT Administration. MetaFrame XP s central data store for all configuration settings lets administrators make changes more easily and efficiently. Managing hundreds of MetaFrame XP servers can be accomplished smoothly, even with a limited IT staff. Reduced Network Traffic. Due to significant advances in core Citrix technologies, MetaFrame XP servers significantly reduce server-to-server communications, take advantage of centralized data storage, and reduce bandwidth consumption on the corporate backbone. Centralized License Management. From a single point, administrators can manage all Citrix product and user licenses, including entry and activation, thus simplifying administration of server farms of all sizes. Enterprise-wide License Pooling. MetaFrame XP server farms can now extend across multiple subnets, allowing MetaFrame XP connection licenses to be pooled among MetaFrame servers across the distributed enterprise. Enhanced License Availability. Because Citrix software licenses are centrally stored and managed, they are no longer assigned to specific servers and can be pooled across the server farm. This eliminates reentering and reactivating licenses when reinstalling a server. Citrix Administrator Accounts. Previously, all Windows 2000 administrators by default had complete administration authority over MetaFrame 1.8 configurable settings. However, many organizations wish to assign Citrix administration privileges to only certain designated Windows 2000 administrators. With MetaFrame XP, this is now a reality. ICA Client Extensibility. Two new ICA-based tools ICA Client Object and Published Application Parameter Support let developers launch an ICA-based application from within a locally installed application, and customize the behavior of published applications, respectively. Interoperability with Previous MetaFrame and WinFrame Platforms. MetaFrame XP interoperates with MetaFrame 1.8 and WinFrame 1.8, providing the flexibility needed for phased server upgrades. Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 9 Citrix Systems, Inc.

MetaFrame XP Advanced Management Features What advanced management features are available in MetaFrame XP? MetaFrame XPa and XPe contain advanced management features not available in the base MetaFrame XPs solution. These features include: Application-based load management (MetaFrame XPa & XPe only) System monitoring and analysis (MetaFrame XPe only) Application packaging and delivery (MetaFrame XPe only) Network management (MetaFrame XPe only) Application-based Load Management Is application-based load management based on Load Balancing Services? While the core value proposition is similar, Citrix has significantly enhanced the functionality of Load Balancing Services and integrated this technology into MetaFrame XPa and XPe. What s new in the application-based load management capability? The application-based load management capability found within MetaFrame XPa and XPe has evolved significantly since Load Balancing Services 1.0. Enhancements include: Application-based Load Balancing. Load balancing criteria can now be configured for servers or applications. Since applications vary in their resource requirements, Citrix administrators can now customize load balancing criteria by application, thus maximizing server resources as well as the enduser computing experience. Application Scheduling. Load-balanced application availability may now be scheduled to accommodate for routine application and database maintenance. Instant Load Balancing Feedback. Citrix administrators can now view real-time server statistics corresponding to the load balancing rules selected on a per-server basis. IP Range Access. Citrix administrators can now specify the range of client IP addresses that can and/or cannot connect to a given MetaFrame XP server, adding an additional level of MetaFrame security. CMC Integration. The Application-based Load Management capability is built into the Citrix Management Console, providing fast and convenient administrator access with an easy-to-use interface. System Monitoring and Analysis Is system monitoring and analysis based on Resource Management Services? While the core value proposition is similar, Citrix has significantly enhanced the functionality of Resource Management Services and integrated this technology into MetaFrame XPe. What s new in the system monitoring and analysis capability? The system monitoring and analysis capability (also known as Resource Manager ) found within MetaFrame XPe has been significantly enhanced since Resource Management Services 1.0. Enhancements include: Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 10 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Real-time Graphing. Custom real-time graphs allow administrators to monitor the health and performance of application servers. Administrators can now detect potential performance bottlenecks before they turn into actual system failures. Real-time Alerting. Resource Manager gives administrators a wide selection of alert mechanisms, including on-screen notifications, messages sent to a mobile phones and SNMP traps. User-definable Metrics. Instead of wading through a screen full of metrics, administrators can select the specific counters they want to monitor and set custom thresholds. Enhanced Application Monitoring. In addition to monitoring servers, Resource Manager enables administrators to track applications, giving them an indicator when it is time to add more licenses. Greater Scalability. Resource Manager is designed to scale easily along with MetaFrame, so administrators can manage their server farms as they expand. Server Farm Monitoring. As server farms grow, the need for simplified, centralized administration becomes increasingly important. Resource Manager lets administrators configure options for servers either individually or farm-wide such as types of metrics or the procedure that takes place when an alarm threshold is reached. Watcher Window. This feature allows monitoring without the need to maximize CMC on the desktop. A small watcher window occupies a corner of the screen to keep the administrator aware of alerts or problems. Real-time Graphs. Data collected by Resource Manager can be used to generate graphs for analysis, presentation or planning purposes. Reporting. Resource Manager provides a number of reports that can be used to review the system s status at a particular time, as well as examine user and application statistics Automatic Server Reboot Support. Eliminate the need to do manual server reboots by scheduling when you want to automatically reboot a server. CMC Integration. The System Monitoring and Analysis capability is built into the Citrix Management Console, providing fast and convenient administrator access with an easy-to-use interface. Application Packaging and Delivery Is application packaging and delivery based on Installation Management Services? While the core value proposition is similar, Citrix has significantly enhanced the functionality of Installation Management Services and integrated this technology into MetaFrame XPe. Must the language version of MetaFrame XPe match the language version of the applications being deployed? The language of the application being deployed using MetaFrame XPe must match the MetaFrame language (i.e., English applications deployed to English MetaFrame XPe servers). What s new in the application packaging and delivery capability? The application packaging and delivery capability (also known as Installation Manager ) found within MetaFrame XPe has been significantly enhanced since Installation Management Services 1.0. Enhancements include: Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 11 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Application Packaging. This capability allows the administrator to record application installations into an application package that can be automatically replicated to multiple MetaFrame XPe servers. By creating a single package that captures all information pertinent to the installation, administrators save time and effort in managing changes in the server environment. File Packaging. The ability to add individual files or groups of files to a package allows administrators to distribute company templates or other documents associated with a particular application. They can also use this feature to distribute a system profile to be used by everyone accessing the application. Service Pack Packaging. Installation Manager facilitates maintenance of application serving environments by enabling the packaging, delivery and installation of service packs and patches. Unattended Programs. Installation Manager is able to package and deliver applications that provide unattended installations without the need for application recording. This allows administrators to take advantage of the functionality built into this type of application. Improved User Interface. An improved UI permits a greater degree of control over the installation package, plus more feedback about the status of the application being delivered. Project Details. Customization is a key feature of Installation Manager. Projects allow administrators to customize and plan during the creation of a package. Within the project, administrators can easily view all project settings, including file details, registry changes, and target directories. Rollback. This feature allows the administrator to quickly wipe the slate clean on the packaging server following package creation to prepare for new installations. Package Delivery. Installation Manager lets administrators deliver a package of applications, files and/or service packs to multiple servers from a central point in minutes instead of days or weeks, saving time and ensuring rapid time-to-value for new or updated applications. Scheduling. To minimize user disruption, administrators can set up installations to occur automatically during off-peak hours or on weekends. Server Groups. By creating server groups based on different categories, such as operating system, geographic location, department or other user-defined criteria, administrators can precisely target application delivery to the desired servers. Server Reboot Support. Applications that require server rebooting upon completion of installation are fully supported by Installation Manager 2.0. Users connected to the application server will automatically be notified in advance prior to server rebooting. MSI Support. Any application that provides a Microsoft Installer Package (MSI) can be deployed easily without the need for repackaging, enabling organizations to obtain all the benefits of this common industry standard. Delivery Verification. The status of application delivery to target servers can be easily verified through Installation Manager. Administrators will enjoy added confidence when centrally delivering applications. Inventory. This capability allows administrators to easily inventory all applications delivered to a server using Installation Manager. Pricing, Packaging & Availability Pricing NEW SALES How will MetaFrame XP be sold and licensed? MetaFrame XP will be sold using a new, flexible connection-based licensing model where the price can be easily stated as a cost per connection regardless of server configuration. A connection-based licensing model offers several advantages, including: Simplicity for the customer and the business partner. Citrix s connection-based licensing model is simple and easy to understand. Since the cost of the MetaFrame XP solution is connection-based, customers and partners only need to know the cost per connection of the MetaFrame XP family member they are purchasing (with or without Subscription ) and multiply the cost per connection by the total number of connections to determine the price of the their solution. Flexibility in configuring the best solution. With MetaFrame XP s connection-based licensing model, customers have the freedom and flexibility to determine the optimal number of MetaFrame XP servers in a given server farm without impacting their overall costs. Customers may use the MetaFrame XP media to install MetaFrame XP on as many servers as necessary. There is no charge for installing the MetaFrame XP server software on additional base servers. Cost effective and easier IT budgeting. Since all connection licenses are priced equally within a given MetaFrame XP solution, the linear pricing model makes it easier for customers to forecast IT expenditures and determine optimal usage of their IT budgets. Easier to manage licenses. Since Citrix s connection-based licensing model does not provide for MetaFrame XP base licenses, it is no longer necessary to re-enter and re-activate Citrix server licenses when changing the configuration of MetaFrame XP servers. How does a customer purchase MetaFrame XP in this new model? What does MetaFrame XP cost? It s simple. A reseller or business partner will work with their customer to determine which member of the MetaFrame XP product family is most appropriate for their needs. At that point the reseller could easily quote the price of the proposed solution as the Cost Per Connection (with or without Subscription) multiplied by the total number of connections. The suggested retail price of each connection license is depicted in Table 2 below: Table 2: MetaFrame XP Connection Licenses Connection License With Subscription Without Subscription MetaFrame XPs $290 $250 MetaFrame XPa $345 $300 MetaFrame XPe $400 $350 Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 14 Citrix Systems, Inc.

Is there any minimum number of connections or any initial purchase requirements in this new connection-based licensing model? Yes. Customers will need to purchase one MetaFrame XP Starter System per organization to get started implementing MetaFrame XP. The MetaFrame XP Starter System includes the MetaFrame XP server media, the license to install the MetaFrame XP server software on as many servers as necessary throughout the entire organization, and the first 20 connection licenses. What is the cost of MetaFrame XP Starter Systems? The Starter System price is calculated by multiplying the appropriate MetaFrame XP connection license price (with or without Subscription) by the initial 20 base connection licenses. The suggested retail price of each Starter System is depicted in Table 3 below: Table 3: MetaFrame XP Starter Systems - English Starter System With Subscription (20-user) Without Subscription (20-user) MetaFrame XPs $5,800 $5,000 MetaFrame XPa $6,900 $6,000 MetaFrame XPe $8,000 $7,000 Does MetaFrame XP pricing differ for non-english MetaFrame XP products? German, Japanese, French, and Spanish MetaFrame XP Starter Systems have a slight uplift in price in comparison to English-based MetaFrame XP Starter Systems due to the additional cost of localized MetaFrame XP media and documentation. This slight uplift is only a one-time fee per organization, as only one Starter System is required per organization. This uplift does not apply to MetaFrame XP connection license packs, as these packs are not language-specific. The suggested retail price of each non-english Starter System is depicted in Table 4 below: Table 4: MetaFrame XP Starter Systems German, Japanese, French & Spanish Starter System With Subscription (20-user) Without Subscription (20-user) MetaFrame XPs $6,600 $5,800 MetaFrame XPa $7,800 $6,900 MetaFrame XPe $9,000 $8,000 Why do MetaFrame XP Starter Systems contain 20 connection licenses rather than 15 as with MetaFrame 1.8? The feedback from customers and partners was very consistent with respect to pricing. They told Citrix to make it easy to install the product on as many or as few servers as necessary, and to provide customers with more initial connections at a competitive price so they can take full advantage of the server flexibility in this licensing model. Based upon this feedback, Citrix implemented the connection-based licensing model, developed the MetaFrame XP Starter System, and will include 20 MetaFrame XP connection licenses with each MetaFrame XP Starter System. What are the costs of MetaFrame XP connection license packs? To accommodate additional users beyond the Starter System, MetaFrame XP connection licenses are available in connection license packs for each MetaFrame XP family member. As you see in the tables below, the connection-pack costs can easily be calculated as a function of the number of connections multiplied by the appropriate cost per connection. The suggested retail price of each connection license pack is depicted in Tables 5, 6 and 7 below: Citrix MetaFrame XP FAQ v 1.0 Page 15 Citrix Systems, Inc.
