Introduction USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter Installation Guide The USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter allows you to connect an additional display to your desktop or notebook PC and use it as an extended desktop or as an additional display for your main screen. USB port VGA port Figure 2: USB 3.0 to VGA Slim Adapter Windows Installation Make sure the proper version driver for your graphics card is installed, the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter is not designed to work with Windows' Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver. Warning: Follow the instructions below to install Windows driver. DO NOT plug the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter into your computer's USB port until instructed to do so. The driver installation will fail when the adapter is plugged in prematurely. 3

Windows 8 (32-/64-bit) / 7 (32-/64-bit) / Server 2008 R2 1. Insert the driver CD. 2. If CD AutoPlay starts: Double click Setup. If CD AutoPlay doesn't start: Click Windows key and R, type D:\setup.exe, press Enter. (Change D: to match your CD/DVD-ROM drive letter) 3. At User Account Controls, click Yes. Skip this step if not prompted. 4. Click Next, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, click Next. 5. The install wizard will copy the drivers and configure your system. This step could take several minutes to complete. Do not interrupt this process. 6. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, then click Finish. 7. While Windows is restarting, connect your second monitor to the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter and turn it on, then plug the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter into the computer. 4

Windows Server 2008 (32-/64-bit) 1. Insert the driver CD. 2. If CD AutoPlay starts: Double click Setup. If CD AutoPlay doesn't start: Click Start, in the Start Search box, type D:\setup.exe, press Enter. (Change D: to match your CD/DVD-ROM drive letter) 3. At User Account Controls, click Continue. Skip this step if not prompted. 4. Click Next, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, click Next. 5. Click Finish. 6. Connect your second monitor to the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter and turn it on, then plug the 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter into the computer. 7. Click Install at the Windows Security. This step may repeat up to three times. Skip this step if not prompted. 8. Restart Windows to complete installation. 5

Windows XP (32-/64-bit) / Server 2003 (32-/64-bit) 1. Insert the driver CD. 2. If CD AutoPlay starts: Double click Setup. If CD AutoPlay doesn't start: Click Start, Run, type D:\setup.exe, press Enter. (Change D: to match your CD/DVD-ROM drive letter) 3. Click Next, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next. 4. At InstallShield Wizard Complete, click Finish. 5. Connect your second monitor to the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter and turn it on. Then plug the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter into the computer. 6. Click Continue Anyway at Hardware Installation. This step may repeat up to three times. Skip this step if not prompted. 7. Restart Windows to complete installation. 6

To Verify Windows Installation 1. Go to Device Manager to verify installation. For Windows 8 / 7 / XP / 2003: Right click Computer or My Computer, click Manage, then click Device Manager. For Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2: Right click Computer, click Manage. Double click Diagnostics, then click Device Manager. 2. Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers, MCT USB3.0 External Graphic Device... should be displayed. Windows Display Utility After successful driver installation either Super Utility and/or USB Display Device icon will appear in the taskbar by the system clock. This utility allows you to change the viewing modes and resolutions for the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter. NOTE: Both utility icons are not available in every Windows OS. 7

Super Utility Icon Access the utility by right clicking on the Super Utility icon located on the taskbar by the system clock, then select Display Settings. Windows embedded display utility will pop up. Duplicate these displays: In this setting, the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter will mirror your desktop. You will see the same image on both displays. Extend these displays: This setting extends your desktop for easy viewing of multiple windows. Windows will move off the primary display and enter the extended display. To match the physical arrangement of your displays, drag the monitor icons into the appropriate position. 8 Figure 3

Make this my main display: This setting is active when using your monitors in extended mode only. Before selecting this option, enable Auto Arrange* (right click anywhere on the desktop, click View, click Auto Arrange) to allow your desktop icons to move to the new main display. *Warning: If you do not enable Auto Arrange, you will need to drag-n-drop your desktop icons to the new main display. Show desktop only on 1: This setting turns on display 1 and turns off all other displays Show desktop only on 2: This setting turns on display 2 and turns off all other displays Monitor Orientation: Drag the monitor icons to match the physical arrangement of your monitor. Note: This feature is disabled when your monitors are in Mirror mode. 9

Extended: This mode extends your desktop for easy viewing of multiple windows. Windows will move off the primary display and enter the extended display. Mirror: In this mode, the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter will mirror your desktop. You will see the same image on both displays Primary: This mode, makes the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter the main display adapter in the system, and the system's main display will be the extended display. Off: This setting turns off the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter. Mac OS Installation 1. Connect your second monitor to the USB 3.0 Video Slim Adapter and turn it on, then plug the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter into the computer. 2. Insert the driver CD. Double click the CD icon on the desktop. 3. Double click Mac folder, then double click T5-Mac-Driver.dmg. 11

4. Double click T5-Mac-ML&Lion-v1.0b14-1228.pkg. 5. At Introduction, click Continue. 6. At Installation Type, click Install. 7. Type in Name and Password, click Install Software, then click Continue Installation. 8. At Summary, click restart. 9. The USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter is now ready for use. To Verify Mac OS Installation 1. Click the Apple menu from the top menu bar, then click About this Mac. Click more info, then click System report. 2. Click Extensions under Software, Trigger5Core should be displayed. 12 Figure 6

Mac Display Utility Access the display utility menu by clicking System Preferences or System Information, then click Displays. Setting the Display Resolutions Select an available resolution from the Display Preferences window. The resolutions available depend on both the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter and the capabilities of the connected display. Select from the Resolution drop down list to change the display resolution Select from the Rotate drop down list if you want to rotate your display. Figure 7 13

Rotating a Display Use the Rotate drop down box, see Figure 7. select the appropriate angle of rotation to match your display's position. Setting the Display to Mirror/Extend Mode Check the Mirror Displays box on the Arrangement pane to enable mirror mode, see Figure 8. Uncheck the box to set the display to extended mode. Change the main display by simply dragging the white menu bar between the displays. Check the Mirror Displays box to enable the mirror mode; uncheck it to go back to the default setting (extend mode). Figure 8 14

Changing the Main Display Change the main display by moving the white Menu Bar between the displays, see Figure 8. Uninstall the Mac OS Driver 1. Insert the driver CD. Double click the CD icon on the desktop. 2. Double click Mac folder, then double click T5-Mac-Driver.dmg. 3. Double click Uninstaller, then click uninstall and restart. 4. Type in Name and Password, click OK. 5. Click restart to complete the uninstallation. 15

Frequently Asked Questions Q1: Why won't my DVD video play when I move it over to the extended display? A1: Some DVD playback software packages do not support playing on a secondary display adapter. This is a limitation of the DVD playback software. Q2: There are lines running up and down my screen or the screen is distorted. A2: This is due to a low or unsupported refresh rate. Make sure you select the USB 3.0 to Video Slim Adapter and not set the refresh rate higher than what your monitor can do. Q3: How do I move a Window to the extended display? A3: When a window is Maximized it can not be moved to the extended display. Click on the Restore Down button located in the upper right hand corner of the window to the left of the Close button. To move the window, place the mouse cursor over the title bar, hold down the left mouse button and drag the window to the other screen. 16
