Reporting Category: Measurement and Geometry Number of Items: 13 Standards of Learning: 7.5 The student will a) describe volume and surface area of cylinders; b) solve practical problems involving the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms and cylinders; and c) describe how changing one measured attribute of a rectangular prism affects its volume and surface area. 7.6 The student will determine whether plane figures - quadrilaterals and triangles - are similar and write proportions to express the relationships between corresponding sides of similar figures. 7.7 The student will compare and contrast the following quadrilaterals based on properties: parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus, and trapezoid.

7.5a CYLINDERS Volume: Space inside an object ( hold, fill, inside ) Surface Area: Area of the outside surface of an object ( cover, outside, surface ) Net of a cylinder is 2 circles attached to a rectangle. V = πr 2 h SA = 2 πr 2 + 2πrh FORMULA SUBSTITUTE SOLVE AREA SQUAREA (surface area has squared units) V-3 (volume has cubic units) (1.) Directions: Circle a box to choose each correct answer you want to select. You must select all correct answers. Identify each true statement. Volume is the sum of all faces of a cylinder. Surface area of a cylinder is the measure of the space inside. Surface area of a cylinder is the sum of the area of two circles and a rectangular region. Volume is the product of the height and the area of the base. Volume is the area of the top of a cylinder. Surface area of a cylinder is the product of the area of the base and the height measure. (2.) A cylinder has a radius of 7 inches and a height of 2 inches. Which is closest to the total surface area of this cylinder? A. 517 sq. in. B. 769 sq. in. C. 1,187 sq. in. D. 3,077 sq. in. (3.) Directions: Circle a box to choose each correct answer you want to select. You must select all correct answers. Identify each situation that would require the application of surface area. Determining the amount of tape needed to cover a decorative box. Determining how much ice would be needed to fill an ice bucket. Determining the amount of frosting needed to cover a cake. Determining how much candy would be needed to fill a glass jar. (4.) Directions: Write your answer in the box. Use 3.14 for the value of pi. A cylindrical cat food container is used to store food for Sandy s kitten. If Sandy s kitten eats 18.84 cubic inches of food each day, how many days would a full container of cat food last?

days 7.5b,c RECTANGULAR PRISMS Volume: Space inside an object ( hold, fill, inside ) Surface Area: Area of the outside surface of an object ( cover, outside, surface ) Net of a rectangular prism contains 6 rectangles. V = lwh SA = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh FORMULA SUBSTITUTE SOLVE AREA SQUAREA (surface area has squared units) V-3 (volume has cubic units) (1) Circle a box to choose each prism you want to select. Identify each of the prisms for which the maximum amount of sand the prism can hold is 30 cubic inches. (2) Directions: Circle a box to choose each prism you want to select. You must select all the correct prisms. The dimensions of a rectangular prism are shown. 6 ft 9 ft 3 ft A new prism is created by changing only one of the dimensions. The volume of the new prism is 1/3 the volume of the original prism. Which of these figures could represent the dimensions of the new prism? 9 ft 27ft x 6ft x 3ft 9ft x 6ft x 1ft 9ft x 3ft x 3ft 29t x 2ft x 3ft 3ft x 6ft x 3ft 9ft x 18ft x 3ft (3) A rectangular prism had a volume of 198 cubic centimeters. The height of this prism was changed from 3 centimeters to 6 centimeters to create a new rectangular prism. The other dimensions stayed the same. What is the volume of this new prism? A. 1,188 cm 3 B. 594 cm 3 C. 396 cm 3 D. 201 cm 3

7.6 SIMILAR FIGURES Similar figures are the same shape, but different sizes. Their angles are congruent. Their sides are proportional. They may be flipped or rotated. The symbol for is similar to is ~. (1.) (2.) What is the measure of angle Z? A. 65 B. 80 C. 100 D. 115 A. B. C. D. (3.) cm

7.7 QUADRILATERALS To name a quadrilateral, look for 3 things: -How many sets of parallel sides it has -Does it have 4 right angles -Does it have 4 congruent sides On a drawing, slash marks mean same length. Arrow heads mean parallel sides. Quadrilateral: no parallel or congruent sides Kite: no parallel sides; adjacent sides are congruent Trapezoid: ONE set of parallel sides. If non-parallel sides are congruent it is isosceles. Parallelogram: TWO sets of parallel sides. Opposite sides are congruent. Opposite angles are congruent. Rectangle: a parallelogram with 4 right angles. Rhombus: a parallelogram with 4 equal sides. Square: a rectangle with 4 equal sides. or a rhombus with 4 right angles. Draw your Venn diagram & dancing man for a brain dump ( placemat, 2 cups, plate with 2 overlapping pancakes ) Diagonals (lines connecting opposite corners) bisect each other in every parallelogram. They bisect at right angles in rhombuses and squares. (1.) Which of these is NOT a property of a rhombus? A. Four congruent sides B. Diagonals bisect each other C. Exactly one pair of parallel sides D. Diagonals intersect at right angles RCT PARALL SQ QUADS RHM KITE TRPZ K RT 0 Q P S 2 1 T RH (2.) Which statement is false? A. All squares are rectangles. B. All squares are parallelograms C. All rhombuses are parallelograms. D. All rhombuses are squares. (3.) Directions: Circle the box to choose each attribute you want to select. You must select all correct attributes. Identify the attributes of both a rectangle and a square. Four equal sides Diagonals bisect one another Opposite sides parallel Opposite sides are equal Four right angles Diagonals are perpendicular
