Background Reasons to strengthen mobile app marketing Lotte Mart is a leading on-off line distributor in South Korea, operating around 110 stores nationwide as well as an online shopping mall. It ranks 1st in Korea in terms of the total number of outlets being managed and operated in both Korea and overseas1. Like LOTTE.com and other online retailers, due to increased online sales Lotte Mart faced rising marketing costs associated with banner ads, search engine marketing, affiliate marketing costs, etc. So Lotte Mart wanted to leverage their mobile app to direct customers to and drive their offline sales. To achieve this Lotte Mart customers would receive offline use only barcode discount coupons, sale information, information on partnership cards with additional discounts, store s event information etc. via push notification and in-app mobile push. 1 http://company.lottemart.com/eng/about02.html

Background Problems with existing push notification system Prior to adopting humuson s Phoenix Push, Lotte Mart encountered the following issues with another push notification solution: It took more than 10 hours to send a push message to 120,000 app users. Efficacy of their mobile marketing efforts were low as Lotte Mart could only send text only push notifications. A message inbox was not supported, therefore barcode coupons to be used offline could not be sent as the push messages could not be recalled after viewing. Due to uncertainty in the statistical information, analysis of mobile push results was not possible.
