This document guides a user through the initial use of their tec5 spectrometer system. There are 3 types of interfaces (USB, PCIe and Ethernet) that require slightly different installation methods. tec5 s free software, Admin Tool, is used to check that the system works correctly. 1 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Windows XP (32-bit) / Windows Vista (32-bit) / Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) / Windows 8 conditional (tests and release in progress). 2 INSTALLATION FOR USB INTERFACES (PD-USB01) Driver Installation 1. Connect the spectrometer unit to your computer via USB connection cable. 2. Switch off the spectrometer unit. 3. Insert the tec5 software CD into your CD-ROM drive. Alternatively, the driver can be installed via download at http://www.tec5.de/text/63/en/software-downloads.html - Free Downloads. 4. Open the directory: Software & Drivers\Operation Electronics drivers\usb-card- MultiSpecDesktop_USB\ 5. Open the installation file (e.g. pdusb01-driver-x64.exe) based on your operating system. 6. Successful installation will be confirmed by a Windows message. 3 INSTALLATION FOR PCIe INTERFACES (PD-PCIe01V1) 3.1 Interface Card Installation 1. Switch off and unplug all devices. 2. Take measures to ground yourself as any electrostatic discharges could harm the electronics. 3. Open the housing of your computer and follow the instructions of provided in the PC manual. 4. Mount the PCIe interface card in a free PCIe X1 slot (alternatively a longer possible). 5. Activate the interface card according to the instructions as described in the manual of your computer. 3.2 Driver Installation 1. Connect the spectrometer unit to your computer via a PCIe connection cable. 2. Switch off the spectrometer unit. 3. Insert the tec5 software CD into your CD-ROM drive. Alternatively, the driver can be installed via download at http://www.tec5.de/text/63/en/software-downloads.html - Free Downloads. 4. Open the directory: Software & Drivers\Operation Electronics drivers\ 5. Select the correct installation file for your operating system: 64-bit Operating System: pdpcie01-driver-x64.exe 32-bit Operating System: pdpcie01-driver-x86.exe 6. Successful installation will be confirmed by a Windows message. TD Quick Installation Guide tec5 Spectrometer Systems V1.0_11 2013 page 6 of 16
4 INSTALLATION FOR ETHERNET INTERFACES (PD-ETH01) 1. A connection through a network (switch) requires a standard patch cable. A direct connection to a PC or laptop requires a cross-over Ethernet cable (is included in scope of supply). 2. For the computer to properly identify the spectrometer unit, a user will need to assign a static IP address (instructions below). The address of the electronics is located on the back of the device or in the document Prüfprotokoll (extern). The device has to be switched on. 4.1 Assigning a static IP address in Windows XP Open the Start menu Control Panel Network Connections Right-click on Local Area Connections choose Properties Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties Select Use the following IP address in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. If there is not any further network, enter your IP address and subnet mask. The IP address must be within the same range as the PD-ETH01 devices. For example, if the IP address of your device is 192.168.0.50, you can assign 192.168.0.51 for your computer. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Click OK TD Quick Installation Guide tec5 Spectrometer Systems V1.0_11 2013 page 7 of 16
Attention: For most cases, you will need to enter in the IP address into an already existing static IP address. If this occurs, please execute the following steps. Select Use the following IP address in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. Click Advanced Click Add Sign in the new address according to the explanation above and click Add TD Quick Installation Guide tec5 Spectrometer Systems V1.0_11 2013 page 8 of 16
Two static IP addresses are now assigned. Click OK 4.2 Assigning a static IP address in Windows 7 Open the Start Menu Control Panel View network status and tasks TD Quick Installation Guide tec5 Spectrometer Systems V1.0_11 2013 page 9 of 16
