Initial Operation Startup Shutter (T6801) and filter wheel (L981054) Initial Operation Startup NOTE The shutter and the filter wheel should only be installed by PTW staff or appropriately trained persons. The following instructions are not complete, but instead only provide an overview of the required installation steps for the shutter and filter wheel. Align the X-ray source table with the calibration bench. Level the X-ray source table using the adjustable base (setting range ± 25 mm). Place the control equipment of the shutters and the filter wheels on the tabletop of the X-ray source table. 4.1 Setting up the equipment Set up the X-ray source table at the place of use. Mount the shutter and filter wheel on the X-ray source table if applicable. 4.2 Connecting and switching on the equipment shutter filter wheel control cable T3502/K604 power supply cable T3502/K603 signal lamp (optional) control cable T3502/K602 filter wheel control unit EXIT MOTOR shutter control unit EXIT MOTOR power supply cable monitor (optional) control panel (connection side) Figure 11: Connecting the equipment * Power supply cable is connected fixed to the shutter 12 D780.131.0/0

Initial Operation Startup Connect all cables appropriately using the prefabricated cables supplied Figure 11. Plug the power supply cable of the shutter into the shutter control unit. CAUTION Equipment damage The power supply cable of the shutters may only be plugged into this after the control unit is switched on to prevent uncontrolled rotations of the shutter. Connect the mains cable to the control units and connect them with the mains power. CAUTION Equipment damage Before connecting the control units, check whether the mains voltage and mains frequency stated on the type plate match the values of the supply mains. Switch the two control units on using the main switches on the back sides (see Figure 5 and Figure 8). NOTE PTW-Freiburg recommends leaving the shutter control unit always switched on (including nights). If the equipment must be switched off, you must remove the power supply cable from the shutter control unit before switching it back on, because otherwise the shutter roller can be moved to an undefined position. After it is switched on, the equipment requires a warming-up time of 30 minutes. Set the CORRECT switch to the ON position (to the right). Turn the shutter roller manually to the Shutter open" position. D780.131.0/0 13

Operating the Equipment Shutter (T6801) and filter wheel (L981054) Operating the Equipment 5.1 Shutter The shutter is normally operated from the control panel, OPEN and SHUT buttons, but can also be operated via the shutter control unit (START button). NOTE For the shutter to function correctly, the CORRECT switch must be set to ON on the control unit during normal operation. The time between two activations of the shutter should not be shorter than two seconds, because otherwise the shutter can move to an undefined position. Control Panel The illuminated control push-buttons, OPEN for opening and SHUT for closing the shutter, are on the control panel. The shutter setting is displayed by lighting of the corresponding button. The button not lit can be pressed. Shutter Control Unit The shutter is opened or closed on the shutter control unit using the START button. This button is switched parallel to the OPEN and SHUT buttons on the control panel. When you press the START button, the shutter roller rotates by 90. You do not receive confirmation of the shutter setting on the shutter control unit. If you require confirmation, a signal lamp can be connected to the existing terminal (see Figure 11). 5.2 Filter wheel The filter wheel can only be operated from the control unit. There are eight buttons on the control unit, to each of which a specific position on the filter wheel is assigned. When you press a button, the filter wheel is rotated to the corresponding position and the associated button lights. The Shutter closed position is monitored, i.e., the lamp SHUT lights when the shutter is closed correctly. The shutter roller is in an undefined position if the OPEN button lights continually after you press the SHUT button several times, i.e., the shutter is still partially open. Put the shutter roller back into the correct position by pressing the SHUT button several times in short intervals (< 2 sec) or manual turning of the shutter roller. 14 D780.131.0/0

Aligning the Shutter Shutter (T6801) and filter wheel (L981054) Aligning the Shutter The shutter is aligned at PTW-Freiburg before it is supplied and does normally not require any other setting. If components age or are replaced, realignment might become necessary. NOTE The shutter mechanics must be aligned from the shutter control unit and not from the control panel. PTW-Freiburg recommends labeling the settings Shutter open and Shutter closed with white markings (e.g., paper stickers). Requirements Good visibility of shutter mechanics; remove the shielding plates if necessary. The warm-up time of 30 minutes should be maintained (if the system is not kept continually switched on) Alignment (see Figure 4) Set the rotation and brake speed using the potentiometer ROTATION in such a way that the shutter roller is braked quickly, but does not kick back. Set the CORRECT switch to the CAL 90 setting (middle). Set the potentiometer 90 in such a way, so that one rotational movement equals approx. 90. It might be necessary to correct the rotation and brake speed again using the potentiometer ROTATION. In this switch setting, the correction magnet is switched off, so that the deviations of 90 are added together when you press the START button several times. Set the CORRECT switch to the ON setting (to the right). When you press the START button, the shutter roller must make correct 90 rotations. Compensation is then made for small deviations by the correction magnet. Set the CORRECT switch to the OFF setting (to the left). When you press the START button, the shutter roller rotates in small steps. D780.131.0/0 15

Cleaning, Maintenance, Disposal Shutter (T6801) and filter wheel (L981054) Cleaning, Maintenance, Disposal 7.1 Cleaning Surface and connection cables First of all, disconnect the device from the power line, before attempting to clean. Rub the devices down with a moist cloth; no liquid must enter the devices. Clean the cables as follows: Disconnect the cables from the devices, pulling on the plug, not on the cable. For cleaning, rub the cables down with a cloth moistened with soap water. Never immerse the cable in liquid! 7.2 Preventive Maintenance Check before each use Before each use, visually inspect the device and the cables for signs of mechanical damage If damages or malfunctions are identified, the device must be repaired before it is used again. Shutter and filter wheel do not require any other, regular maintenance measures. 7.3 Disposal of the Product At the end of the product life the components must be disposed of in compliance with the applicable waste control regulations. The different materials must be separated and recycled as appropriate. Shutter and filter wheel contain components of lead. These components must be recycled according to local regulations. The electronic components must be recycled according to local regulations. The cost for an eventual return at the end of the product life time is to be borne by the customer. 7.4 Fuses The shutter control unit uses 2 mains fuses (refer to Technical Specifications) which are accessible from the rear of the device. In addition a fuse (6.3 A, slow-blow) for power supply is used which is accessible from the front side. The filter wheel control unit uses 2 mains fuses (refer to Technical Specifications) which are accessible from the rear of the device. Before replacing the fuses, turn off the devices and disconnect them from the power line. 16 D780.131.0/0
