1 Firmware History 1.1 Applicable Models Panasonic Lenses for DMC-L1 with Optical Image Stabilizer Panasonic Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm f2.8-3.5 1.2 Purpose Firmware Version 1.1 Fixed LCD may indicate PLEASE TURN CAMERA OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN when leaving the DMC-L1 Power Switch ON. Page 2 of 9
2 Check Firmware Version 2.1 Camera Body v2.0 or Higher NOTES: The Panasonic camera lens should be attached to the camera. If the camera body has firmware version 2.0 or higher installed, the current firmware version of the camera lens can be viewed by accessing the camera s SETUP MENU and scrolling down to VERSION DISP. on screen 3/3. If VERSION DISP. is not available in the SETUP menu on screen 3/3, use step 3.2 to check firmware version. This indicates the camera lens firmware version is 1.0. CAUTION: If the lens firmware version is the same or higher than the firmware version downloaded or received, a firmware update is unnecessary. 2.2 Camera Body v1.1 or Lower NOTE: The Panasonic lens must be attached to the camera body to determine the current firmware version of the lens. 1) Turn the camera s POWER SWITCH to OFF. 2) Attach the lens to the camera body, if it s not already attached. 3) Connect the AC Adapter to the camera, if it s not already connected. 4) Insert an SD Card that has several recorded photos. 5) Set the SHUTTER SPEED DIAL to the 8 position. 6) While pressing the [AFL/AEL] button, turn the POWER SWITCH to ON. POWER SWITCH 7) Press the [PLAY] button. AFL/AEL Button PLAY Button 8) Press the [FUNC.2] and [DOWN ARROW] simultaneously. FUNC.2 Button DOWN ARROW This indicates the camera lens firmware version is 1.006. CAUTION: Compare the current firmware version displayed to the firmware version you have received or downloaded. If they are the same, or the firmware version displayed in the camera is higher, there is no need to install the firmware. NOTE: Press the [FUNC.2] and [DOWN ARROW] simultaneously to return to normal operation. Page 4 of 9
3 Download Firmware 1) Left click on the DOWNLOAD icon for the DMC-L1K Camera Lens Firmware. - DMC-L1K Camera Lens Firmware 2) Left click on SAVE. The file name displayed should be ES00110A.bin. The file name is based on the camera lens firmware version. 3) Left click on DESKTOP, and then left click on SAVE. NOTE: The ES00110A.bin file will be placed on the DESKTOP. Page 5 of 9
4 Copy Firmware 4.1 Format SD Card CAUTION: Ensure the SD Card does not contain files that should not be deleted. 1) Insert an 8 MB or larger SD Card into the camera. 2) Turn the power to the camera ON. 3) Press [PLAY] to display an image. 4) Press [MENU/SET]. 5) Press the [UP ARROW] or [DOWN ARROW] to highlight FORMAT in the PLAY MENU. 6) Press the [RIGHT ARROW]. CAUTION: Formatting irretrievably deletes all the data on the SD Card, including any protected content. Check the SD Card carefully to verify there are not any files which should not be deleted before proceeding with formatting the SD Card. 7) Press the [UP ARROW] to highlight YES, and then press [MENU/SET]. 8) After the formatting is complete, remove the SD Card from the camera and power the camera OFF. 4.2 Copy Firmware to SD Card 1) Insert the SD Card that was formatted using the camera into a USB Reader/Writer attached to the computer, or an SD Card Slot built into the computer. 2) Right click on the camera lens firmware on the DESKTOP, and then left click on COPY. 3) Double click on MY COMPUTER. 4) Right click on the SD Card Reader/Writer or Built-In SD Card Drive, and then left click on PASTE. NOTES: 1. The below window may appear while the file is being copied to the SD Card. 2. The firmware filename may be different in this image than the filename actually downloaded due to there being updated firmware. The file name displayed should be ES00110A.bin. The file name is based on the camera lens firmware version. 5) Double click on the SD Card Reader/Writer or Built-in SD Card Drive to verify the firmware has been copied to the SD Card. Page 7 of 9
5 Install Firmware 1) Set the camera s POWER SWITCH to OFF. 2) Attach the Panasonic lens to the camera body, if it s not already attached. 3) Connect the AC Adapter to the camera, if it s not already connected. 4) Insert the SD Card with the firmware update into the camera. 5) Turn the POWER SWITCH to ON. POWER SWITCH 6) Press the [PLAY] button. PLAY Button The below menu will appear. UP ARROW MENU/SET Button 7) Press the [UP ARROW] button to highlight YES, and then press the [MENU/SET] button. CAUTION: DO NOT turn the POWER OFF or press any of the buttons on the camera while the firmware update is in progress. Page 8 of 9
8) During the firmware update the below screen will be displayed on the LCD. The firmware update will take approximately 1 minute. 9) When the firmware update is complete, the below screen will be displayed on the LCD. 10) Turn the POWER SWITCH to OFF and remove the SD Card with the firmware update.
