Introduction 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Vimar By-web for Android Vimar By-web for Android is an application for mobile devices with the Android operating system that permits access to the By-web Web Server (part 01945-01946) and By-web KNX (part 01545) of Vimar. 1.2 What is Vimar By-web Vimar By-web (part 01945-01946) is a Web Server that allows you to manage your By-me home automation system through a PC, notebook, tablet or touch screen, as well as mobile devices with browsers able to display web pages. For Apple iphone and ipod Touch devices, there is a dedicated application (Vimar By-web for ios) available for download from the App Store, which allows remote access to the By-web control system. For Google Android mobile devices, there is a dedicated application (Vimar By-web for Android) available for download from Google Play, which allows remote access to the By-web control system. This manual explains how to configure and use this application. (By-web for Android devices) 1.3 What is Vimar By-web KNX Vimar By-web KNX (part 01545) is a Web Server that allows you to manage your KNX home automation system through a PC, notebook, tablet or touch screen, as well as mobile devices with browsers able to display web pages. For Apple iphone and ipod Touch devices, there is a dedicated application (Vimar By-web KNX for ios) available for download from the App Store, which allows remote access to the By-web KNX control system. For Google Android mobile devices, there is a dedicated application (Vimar By-web for Android) available for download from Google Play, which allows remote access to the By-web KNX control system. This manual explains how to configure and use this application. (By-web for Android devices) 1.4 Installation and requirements To install the application, visit Google Play, search for the application, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. Once the application has been installed, an icon to run the program will appear on your device. 2

Introduction In order to install the application, the mobile device must have version 4.0 or higher of the Android operating system installed. The app operation is optimized for Web Server software version (item 01545) 2.0 and later. Other requirements include: a By-me home automation system with the Vimar By-me Web Server or a KNX home automation system with the Vimar By-me KNX Web Server a Wi-fi connection for use in a local network an internet connection, configured according to the instructions in the Vimar By-web and Vimar By-web KNX Installation Manual, to control the system remotely Attention: check that the firmware version declared by the mobile phone manufacturer meets the requirements for use with the Vimar By-web software. 1.5 Language The By-web software can be configured in different languages. The By-web software automatically identifies the language settings for the Android operating system and consequently activates the same language. The language set in the By-web for Android application is used in the setup screens of the application itself, while the content of the Web Server pages are presented in the language set in the accessed web server (see the Web Server documentation for the language setting in the Web Server and the list of available languages). NOTE: If the language setting for the Android operating system is not available on the By-web application, English will be set. To set the language for the Android operating system, refer to the manual of the Android device itself. 3

Configuration 2. CONFIGURATION 2.1 Introduction The application allows you to manage multiple projects on the one mobile device, thus allowing connection with more than one Vimar Web Server (home, work, beach home, etc...). The application manages each different system as separate "project" and is able to connect to both the Vimar By-web Web-Server (part 01945-01946) and the Vimar By-web KNX Web Server (part 01545). To create a new project within the application, you must first perform the following operations: 1. Set up every aspect of the home automation system supervision in the Vimar Web Server (By-web or By-web KNX). 2. Connect your Vimar By-web web server to the Wi-Fi network that is connected to the Android device on which the application is installed. 3. Install and run the application on your mobile device. 4

Configuration 2.2 The "Project list" window To access the Project list: At the first start-up of the app (or at the start-up of the app if no projects have been configured or if some projects have been configured but the automatic launch of the last project used has not been enabled), the projects list window is displayed. From the "frontend" section (section which displays Web Server contents), it is possible to access the page with the project list by double-clicking the "back" button (or icon) of the mobile device. The window is composed of the following parts: Work area: list of configured projects Upper bar of the window, where there are two icons: - + icon: creation of a new project - = icon: main configuration menu. Press "Project list" to return to the "Project list" page or "Settings" to access the general settings page. 5

Configuration 2.2.1 General settings The general settings page contains the settings that concern the app operation and that apply to all projects. Automatic launch: if enabled (default setting), after configuring at least one project, the Web Server default page is displayed when the application starts. If disabled, when the app starts it displays the page with the list of projects from which to select the project to access. Install recognized CA: Install the Web Server CA certificate (for managing SSL communication between apps and Web servers) on the mobile device: necessary for displaying video messages. Delete archives in the cache: deletes configured projects data from the mobile device memory. At the next access to configured projects, the app will automatically download the data from the Web Server again (project data downloading may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of the available connection). Orientation: (it is only available on mobile devices whose screen size allows sufficient visibility of the Web Server content both vertically and horizontally). It allows to set the horizontal or vertical view of the Web Server pages by manual setting. At the start-up, the app automatically checks the resolution (and horizontal and vertical dimensions) of the mobile device screen, and based on these data it sets the Web Server pages presentation in vertical or horizontal orientation. Typically in phones the orientation is vertical and in tablets it is horizontal. 6

Configuration In any case, in mobile devices whose screen size allows a correct displaying of Web Server content with both horizontal and vertical orientation, this setting allows to change the orientation compared to the default orientation set by the app. This setting applies to the displaying of all configured projects. IMPORTANT: The app does not automatically change the page view orientation, depending on the physical orientation of the mobile device. Keep the screen on: enabling this item, the app inhibits the mobile device screen stand-by mode activation. Full screen: activates the full screen display of the app on the mobile device. 7

Configuration 2.3 Creating a new project The procedure for creating a new project in the app involves the system data download from the Web Server. There are two procedures for locating the Web Server from which to download the system data: automatic Web Server search and1 manual Web Server selection. The two procedures are described in the following two chapters. 2.3.1 Creating a new project with automatic Web Server Search function Access the Project list window and press the '+' icon in the top bar: the page for entering the parameters for accessing the Web Server appears. After selecting, the application scans the network and displays the Web Servers and corresponding IP addresses available on the LAN for importing. Select the Web Server with the desired project. After selecting the desired Web Server address, a window appears for the Web Server access configuration settings, with the local IP address field is already present. 8

Configuration Meaning of the application Web Server access parameters: Field Name Username Password Local IP address Home network Domain or public IP Remote port Local content Description Name of the project identifies the project in the list of projects managed by the app. The Web Server user name used to access the Web Server via the app. Refer to the relevant section in the Web Server documentation for the management of users on the Web Server. Access password for the specified user. IP address of the Web Server of the LAN for local access. SSID (the name with which is identified a wireless local area network (WLAN)) of the WLAN connected to the LAN in which the Web Server is connected. This data is required for the "local" connection to the Web Server. Pressing in this field displays a window to set the parameter. If your mobile device is connected to a WLAN, a list of the latest WLAN appears that the mobile device has accessed: if among these the desired WLAN is visible, select it. In the event that no list appears (for example, because the mobile device is not connected to any WLAN at that time), it is possible to manually enter the SSID of your home network. It is possible to select more than one SSID; this is required to manage cases where there are multiple Wi-Fi access points in a home with different SSIDs. Compilation of this field is mandatory in order to complete the configuration procedure of connection of the app to the Web Server. Important : if you do not have this information you will not be able to access the "local" Web Server but you can still access the "remote" Web Server by associating a "dummy" name to that parameter. IP address or domain DNS used for remote access to the web server. Port number used for remote access the Web Server. This item enabled by default, enables local app content management to optimise web server access times. It is possible to disable this function if it is not correctly managed by the mobile device. The set parameters are saved automatically when they are entered. After all the data has been entered, return to the project list pressing the icon on the window top bar or pressing once the "back" button (or icon) of the mobile device. The project list will show the name of the new project created. 9

Configuration Note: Some network configurations inhibit the correct function of the By-web app's automatic Web Server detection procedure. If this occurs, perform the procedure manually by setting the parameters of the Web Server as described below. If app is not able to communicate with the selected Web server, you will see an error message (see the chapter on access to the Web Server and connection error). 2.3.2 Creating a new project with manual Web Server selection Pressing the " " button, the Web Server manual selection page appears for the Web Server that you are going to import data from. In this case, it is necessary to also insert the local IP address of the Web Server. The set parameters are saved automatically when they are entered. After all the data has been entered, return to the project list pressing the window top bar icon or pressing once the back button (or icon) of the mobile device. The project list will show the name of the new project created. Then proceed as described in the previous chapter, If app is not able to communicate with the selected Web Server, you will see an error message (see the chapter regarding Selecting a project and connection error). 2.4 Changing an existing project To change the parameters of an existing project: 1. Access the Project list window, as described above. 2. Select the project you intend to modify 3. Press the button in the top right of the screen. 4. Make the changes. The set parameters are saved automatically when they are entered. After all the data has been entered, return to the project list pressing the icon on the window top bar or pressing once the "back" button (or icon) of the mobile device. The project list will show the name of the new project created. If app is not able to communicate with the selected Web server, you will see an error message (see the chapter on access to the Web Server and connection error). 10

Configuration 2.5 Removing an existing project To remove a previously created project from the app, perform the following steps: 1. Access the Project list window, as described above. 2. Select the project to be removed. 3. Press the icon on the top right. The drop-down menu appears with the settings related to the specific project. 4. Select Delete and press OK to confirm the removal of the project or CANCEL to cancel the project removal operation. 2.6 Accessing the Web Server via the By-web app To access one of the projects configured in the app, perform the following steps: 1. Access the Project list window, as described above. 2. Select the desired project: the project line highlights in blue and the icon appears on the right side of the line. 3. Press the icon. The project loading procedure is started. The app includes a procedure for loading some of the project data in a local database for faster subsequent access to the Web Server, especially for Web Server access via remote connection. This process can take a few minutes. During this process, none of the Web Server functions are available to the app. The Web Server default page is displayed after the project data upload procedure. Note: if Automatic Launch (default setting) is selected in the general settings of the app, when the app starts, the default page of the last project used before to close the app is displayed. 11

Configuration 2.7 Connection Error If the app cannot connect to the Web server given by the configuration parameters, an error message is displayed. This error may be caused by the following reasons: 1. The connection parameters (IP address and port) of the Web Server or the Home Network setting have not entered correctly in the configuration page of the project app. Solution: check the data entered in the project configuration page of the app. Press the "back" button of the mobile device to return to the project list and edit the incorrect data. 2. The connection data for the Web Server have been entered correctly, but there are network problems. Solution: Verify the correct operation of the LAN. 2.8 Clearing the cache The Single project cache clearing function is used to delete the data stored in the cache of the app related to the selected project. To clear the app cache related to a single project, perform the following steps: 1. Access the Project list window, as described above. 2. Select the project to clear the related cache in the app. 3. Press the button on the top right. The drop-down menu appears with the settings related to the specific project. 4. Select Clear cache. The selected project data is deleted from the app cache. At the next access to the project, the data will be uploaded again to the app cache (this procedure could take a few minutes depending on the connection speed). 12

Use 3. USE 3.1 Introduction The By-web app allows you to navigate the supervision areas of the Vimar Web Server (part 01945-01946) and part 01545) using Android mobile devices, with better performance and greater convenience than through a standard browser. Before you can access a Vimar Web Server from the app, you must configure the project, as described in the Configuration section of this manual. The app does not allow automatic screen rotation of the Android device according its orientation. For a vertical view and relatively small smartphone screen, the device will display the pages in "grid" format, regardless of the Web Server settings (refer to the Web Server documentation for a description of the "grid" view or "map" view in the Web Server). In the supervision pages, home automation devices in the system are represented by widgets (refer to the Vimar Web Server documentation). Depending on the type of device/function, the widget may be simple as for the ON/OFF controls of lights or scenarios, or they may also open a popup window containing the data necessary for detailed manipulation, in which case the pop-up may not be fully visible due to the size of the screen of the mobile device and scrolling will be necessary to view the hidden parts. Navigating the pages of the Web Server via the app is similar to accessing the Web Server via PC browsers. You can therefore refer to your Web Server manual for a description of the Web Server interface. 13

Use 3.2 Displaying the side bar menu Navigation between different sections of the Web Server is handled via the side menu (main and sub menu). To display the side menu, press the icon on the upper horizontal menu bar:. 14

Use When the main menu appears, select the desired item to enter the sub menu. After selecting the desired sub menu item, the menu disappears. If the number of menu items exceeds what can be displayed at one time on the screen, you can access the menu items that are not visible by scrolling. 15

Use 3.3 Return to the side bar main menu To return to the main menu, select the "Back" menu item button at the top of the menu. 3.4 Web Server functions For more information about the capabilities of the Web Server (01945-01946 and 01545) refer to the respective instruction manuals. 3.5 Access to project lists From the "frontend" section (where Web Server content is displayed), it is possible to access the page with the project list by double-clicking the "back" button (or icon) of the mobile device. 16
