5.1 Surround Sound Posted by Breudayael - 11 Jun 2014 03:29 I apologize if this has been asked before, but I've been searching the forums for the past few hours and haven't been able to find anything. Is Lightworks Pro capable of exporting movies in 5.1 surround sound? I have some AVIs with this format and the program seems to be able to import them just fine but I'm uncertain if it can export in 5.1 surround sound. Thanks for any help! It looks like this may be in the wrong forum. Could one of the moderators please move it to the Audio forum? Posted by rhinox202-11 Jun 2014 17:42 You can't directly export to 5.1. You'll have to export your audio separately by setting your Format to "WAV" and Generate to one of the "Mono Tracks" options. Then you have to convert it in another program (ie. DVD authoring). One of the other members does this but I couldn't pinpoint their post. They may be along for some clarity. Posted by Finwe_Noleme - 13 Nov 2015 09:57 Hello. This issue is long, but I'm wondering if there's no way to export a video with sound 5.1 without having to enter a so tedious as export the 6-channel audio processing independently and then mix it with the video... This make no sense! How Lightworks not support export 5.1 sound??? Thank you. 1 / 5
Posted by briandrys - 13 Nov 2015 10:08 I suspect there may be a license involved for 5:1, which could possibly bring an additional cost to Lightworks. Posted by Craig Marshall - 13 Nov 2015 21:05 I think asking Lightworks to Export a pre-mixed 5.1 soundtrack is like asking Lightworks to perform 'auto edit' on your video tracks. I occasionally create 5.1 sound mixes from Lightworks audio exports using the ClipToolz transcoder. This (free) app has a nice surround sound audio mixer built in and is still available from the Dropbox link at the bottom RH of this page. Posted by Finwe_Noleme - 15 Nov 2015 19:01 It is possible to export in wav format 2 by 2 channels? I mean 3 stereo tracks that later merge with video in external software to export mp4 with 5.1 sound. Posted by Craig Marshall - 15 Nov 2015 20:30 All audio tracks can be mixed internally and output as mixed tracks (4 separate tracks, I think, can be output from the internal mixer mix) or better still, any number of audio tracks can be output separately, bypassing the internal mixer for mixing in external software I'm working on a Lightworks production now with seven soundtracks. As the programme will be Exported as an AAF for finishing in DaVinci Resolve, I will complete the mix internally using the variable nodes so that the Video track/s will be exported as an AAF but Audio will be exported separately as a single, pre-mixed, stereo wav file. 2 / 5
Posted by Finwe_Noleme - 26 Nov 2015 09:05 Audacity is freeware and lets you exporting AC3 seamlessly. So this does not make sense that lightworks PRO does not have this option, being as it is, a professional program. I have no choice but to export 3 stereo tracks WAV, join them later in a AC3 in Audacity and finally put it together with the video. Crazy!!! That's rather like saying "I have a perfectly good hammer and it makes no sense that I can't use it to drive in screws." Lightworks is a professional non-linear video editor. It isn't an audio post production system. For that you need different tools. Posted by lghtwrks - 27 Nov 2015 00:28 probably the lwks-mixer gets 2 more options: - add output (line-out) - add submix greets s Posted by RWAV - 27 Nov 2015 01:57 3 / 5
In Pro there are options covering this with the choice of exporting as embedded audio or separate WAV files - also quite easy to set up pre-mixes - please see the attached. Posted by lghtwrks - 27 Nov 2015 02:03 (not sure, if that answer belongs to me) "add output (line-out)" would add 1 (std) 2 (std) 3 (std) 4(std) 5 6 7 8 (.1) same for submixes... Posted by RWAV - 27 Nov 2015 03:24 It's for everyone to read but certainly a response to your question. Unless I completely misunderstand that question the first part of your request already exists in Pro - submixes can be done but would require more hands-on routing via the three available LW 'mix buses' to L/R for export 4 / 5
The attached is the result of a marked section.wav only export from the previous post's project - exported as Mono Tracks Bypassing Mixer = 16 individual.wav files. Posted by lghtwrks - 27 Nov 2015 12:34 ah ok, I was talking about the mixer itself (adding line outs on demand + submix chans) greets s 5 / 5
