Physical view The front panel of the SIEM 9700 Series appliance supports 8 hot swappable 2.5 form factor disk drives. The drives are labeled 0 through 7, from left to right. See SIEM 9700 Series appliance front panel on page 15. The SIEM 9700 Series appliance also contains two non hot-swappable internal, highly-available flash storage drives for the operating system. Figure 3-2 SIEM 9700 Series appliance disk modules (0 through 7)

Hardware components SIEM 9700 Series appliance power modules 29 Disk drive features The disk drives have the following features: The operating system of the SIEM 9700 Series appliance is installed on two internal, highly-available flash storage drives. The disk in slot 7 of the drive is designated as the hot-swappable disk. Provides storage capacity. Warning: When data is being read or written on disks, do not power off the device by turning off the power. Otherwise, the data on the disks may be damaged. To power off the device correctly, issue the shutdown command through the operating system, which invokes the proper operating system and hardware shutdown procedure. Disk module LEDs One disk inside a carrier defines the Disk Module. There are two LEDs on each disk module. One LED indicates disk status. The other LED indicates Power and/or Activity. LED Disk Status Power/Activity Power/Activity Power/Activity Table 3-1 Color/State Green Solid Green Solid Blue Not lit Flashing Green Disk module LEDs Indication Drive has been configured. System carrier contains a disk drive. The carrier does not contain a disk drive. Drive activity is in progress. Green = System See SIEM 9700 Series hardware structure on page 14. SIEM 9700 Series appliance power modules The rear panel of the SIEM 9700 Series appliance contains two power modules, one situated on top of the other. Each module has one AC power connector (socket) and an LED status indicator. See SIEM 9700 Series appliance rear panel and ports on page 17.

30 Hardware components SIEM 9751 and 9752 8 Gb FC HBA LEDs The power modules support hot swapping. A fault on one power module does not affect the normal running of the SIEM 9700 Series appliance. It is recommended to have both power modules attached to the main AC power source. If one module or source fails, the other module maintains power to the system without interruption. Figure 3-3 SIEM 9700 Series appliance AC power modules See SIEM 9700 Series hardware structure on page 14. SIEM 9751 and 9752 8 Gb FC HBA LEDs The 8 Gb FC HBAs connects the SIEM 9751 and 9752 to other network and storage devices. It can provide two or four HBA FC ports (depending on if you have SIEM 9751 or 9752). By using the HBA card (Fibre Channel), data can be exported from the SIEM 9751 or 9752 to a tape library for offline storage.
