Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 7 Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 Installation and Licenses Upgrade installations and licensing compatibility Sage Master Builder Version 14 contains a new licensing system. All the computers on your network must be running version 14 licensing for workstations to be able to obtain a license use. Version 14 licensing is installed to each computer when you install the program. Licensing Version... Does Not Work With... 14 running on license server computer Any version of Sage Master Builder that has not been updated to version 14 licensing. 13 running on license server computer Any version of Sage Master Builder that has been upgraded to version 14 licensing. Install the upgrade to the license server first IMPORTANT: Install the upgrade to the Sage license server computer before you install the program upgrade to client workstation computers. You cannot run Sage Master Builder Version 14.1.0 from a workstation computer until the Sage license server computer has been upgraded. Mapped drives and network installation You no longer need to map a drive to install Sage Master Builder to client computers from a network location. This applies to all operating systems. There are no restrictions on running the installer from a network image, and it is acceptable to have spaces contained in the path to the Setup.exe file. To install from a network location: 1 Copy the CD image to a network folder. 2 In the main image folder, locate the Setup.exe file and double-click it. NOTE: Execute the Setup.exe file in the main image folder, not the one in the SMBPrograms subfolder. Installation and AutoPlay Program installations begin immediately upon inserting the CD into the CD-ROM drive if AutoPlay is set to begin automatically. With computers running the Windows XP operating system, you can start the installation manually by using the Start > Run > Browse command to locate and select sagemasterbuilder.exe. With computers running the Vista and Server 2008 operating systems, this command path has changed.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 8 On Vista, click the Vista button (left circular button at lower left of the system tray) to open a window with the Start/Search text box at the bottom. Type sagemasterbuilder.exe in the text box, and press the Enter key. When the system search locates the file on the CD, double-click the file to begin the installation process. On Server 2008, click Start > Run > Browse. Locate sagemasterbuilder.exe, on the CD, and double-click the file to start the installation. About network configuration and TCP Remoting Channel Sage Master Builder uses the TCP Remoting Channel, a Microsoft.NET Framework component to enable communication among computers on a network. Certain configurations can potentially disable the communication: File sharing on computers running the Vista/Server 2008 operating system must be enabled. To enable file sharing, follow the instructions in the Vista/Server 2008 Help. TCP communication requires the selection of port numbers that are not in use by other processes on the local computer. Software firewalls running on the local computer can be configured to block processes from opening TCP ports, which will prevent communication through the TCP Remoting Channel. Configuring Sage Service Host TCP port numbers By default, the Sage Serve Host uses the TCP port numbers 8103 and 8104. These number can be configured using an XML file, Sage.SMB.xml, located under: \Documents and Settings\All Users\Applications Data\Sage\LS1 \ServiceHost\1.1\Configuration. IMPORTANT: If you need to change the default port numbers for the Sage Service Host using the Sage.SMB.xml file, you must change it on every computer on the network where Sage Master Builder is installed. In addition, after making this change, the Sage Service Host on each computer running Sage Master Builder must be restarted. NOTE: Consult with your IT administrator for alternative port number. To change the port numbers: 1 In Window Explorer, locate the Sage.SMB.xml under this path: \Documents and Settings\All Users\Applications Data\Sage\LS1 \ServiceHost\1.1\Configuration. 2 Right-click Sage.SMB.xml, and open it with a text editor, such as Notepad. 3 Near the end of the file between the <Remoting> </Remoting> tags, locate the port numbers and change them.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 9 4 Save and close the file. 5 Repeat steps 1-4 on every computer running Sage Master Builder. Configuring third-party firewalls During installation of the Sage Service Host, the Windows Firewall is configured automatically to allow the Sage Service Host to act as a TCP server. If you use some other firewall, however, you may need to manually adjust some settings in the firewall in order to ensure proper operation. NOTE: You can use the following basic procedure to manually configure the Windows Firewall to allow the Sage Service Host to communicate with other computers. Use it as the basis for manually configuring other 3rd part firewall products. To configure the Windows Firewall: 1 Click Start > Control Panel > Security Center (XP) or Security (Vista/Server 2008). 2 Open Windows Firewall, and select the Exceptions tab. 3 If Sage Service Host is not on the list, then you can add it by selecting Add Program, then browsing to the following path: \Program Files\Common\Files\Sage\LS1\ServiceHost\1.1\Sage.LS1.ServiceHost.exe. NOTE: By default, the exception is set to allow access by any computer on the network. If desired, you can refine this setting by selecting the Change Scope button. Be aware that restricting the scope incorrectly can cause the computer to be unable to connect with some or all of the other machines on the network. 64-bit Operating Systems Vista/Server 2008 and 64-bit Operating Systems Sage Master Builder supports the Vista and Server 2008 32-bit operating systems only. Do not install Sage Master Builder or any of its components on a computer running the 64-bit Vista Business or 64-bit Server 2008 operating systems. Vista/Server 2008 Operating Systems Vista/Server 2008 installations and mapped drives Mapped drives are not available when installing on a computer running the Vista or Server 2008 operating systems. Following are solutions to this issue: If you need to install to a mapped drive, install the program to a computer that is running another supported operating system, such as Windows XP.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 10 If there are no other computers running a supported operating system on you network, refer to the Microsoft knowledgebase article to allow mapped drives to display elevated users. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937624/ Vista/Server 2008 network configuration and TCP Remoting Channel Sage Master Builder uses the TCP Remoting Channel, a Microsoft.NET Framework component to enable communication among computers on a network. File sharing on computers running the Vista/Server 2008 operating system must be enabled. To enable file sharing, follow the instructions in the Vista/Server 2008 Help. Sage licensing (Sage Service Host) cannot auto-start on Vista/ Server 2008 The Sage licensing service (Sage Service Host) cannot auto-start on computers running the Vista or Server 2008 operating systems. If the service stops, the program displays a message advising you to take further action to resolve this issue. Server 2008 error unless running as Administrator If you encounter an error about opening the mb7.kpr file when launching Sage Master Builder on a computer running Windows Server 2008, right-click the Sage Master Builder icon on your desktop, and select Run as administrator. Vista Sleep Mode prevents computers from obtaining a license use If you are using a Vista computer as the Sage license server and it goes into Sleep Mode, the workstations cannot obtain a license use. Possible resolutions are: Use a different computer on your network to be the Sage license server. Any supported operating system can be used in place of Vista, for example, Windows XP or Windows Server 2008. Set Sleep Mode on your license server computer to Never. To set the Sleep Mode to Never: 1 Click Start > Control Panel > System Maintenance > Power Option. 2 Select Change when computer sleeps. 3 From the Put computer to sleep list, select Never.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 11 Vista, Server 2008, and changing the Sage License Server computer On a Vista or Server 2008 workstation, when you select File > Change Sage License Server > Select the computer from the list of computers on your network, the command may fail to generate a list of network computer names. To resolve this issue, click Enter the IP address or name of the computer and type the IP Address of the server computer in the box. Information regarding Vista and Server 2008 User Account Control (UAC) In Vista and Server 2008, UAC help reduce the risk of security threats to the operating system by requiring that users run in standard user mode. By default, the Vista and Server 2008 UAC is enabled. There are two possible scenarios that could develop during installation depending on whether you are running with administrator privileges or running as a standard user. Running the computer as an administrator: (1) Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. (2) On the AutoPlay window, choose Install or run program. (3) On the User Account Control window, select Allow to install the program and then click OK. Running the computer as a standard user: (1) Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. (2) On the AutoPlay window, choose Install or run program. (3) On the next User Account Control window, enter your administrator user name and password to continue. Note: If you do not have an administrator user name and password for this computer, contact your system administrator to resolve this issue. Missing shortcuts when upgrading from version 13 to version 14 When upgrading on computers running the Vista and/or Server 2008 operating systems, shortcuts may be missing after installing version 14 during an upgrade if you follow these specific steps: 1 Install version 13, and let the installer launch the program when you click Finish. 2 Create some shortcuts by dragging items from the menu tree to the program desktop. 3 Exit the program, and then upgrade to version 14. 4 Launch version 14, and your shortcuts are missing.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 12 If you launch version 13 at a later time by not choosing to launch from the installation Finish button and follow the same procedure, your shortcuts will not be missing. Enterprise Edition Enterprise Edition discontinued in version 14 After interviews with a portion of our customer base, we have determined many customers are using Citrix or Windows Terminal Services for wide area network (WAN) access. Consequently, they are not using the WAN services in Enterprise Edition. After much research and careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue future development for the Enterprise Edition of Sage Master Builder. This will allow us to allocate additional development efforts on the standard version of Sage Master Builder. Your Enterprise Edition will continue to work with Sage Master Builder Version 13, but not version 14. However, customer support will continue to be available for all service plan subscribers through September 30, 2009. As a service plan subscriber you will receive future enhancement releases of the standard version of Sage Master Builder. Digitizer Digitizer integration with Sage Master Builder Digitizer integration with Sage Master Builder has been discontinued. You can still use a digitizer and work with the program, but you have to manually enter number into the 9-5 Takeoffs grid. Reports Version 13 reports are not backward compatible with version 14 WARNING: Opening a report created in any version Sage Master Builder 13 in version 14, makes the report unusable in version v13. To avoid loss of data, we strongly recommend that you upgrade all computers on your network at the same time to version 14. Then never go back to use version 13. If you open a report that was created in v13 in version 14, the report cannot be opened again in version 13. For example, if someone provides you a report created in version 14 and you try to open it in version 13, you will not be able to open the report. You can, however, open version 13 reports in version 14.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 13 Faxing and Adobe Reader Upgrade to Adobe Reader version 8.1.3 or later for faxing Customers have reported problems faxing from Sage Master Builder with versions earlier than 8.1.3. Note that Adobe Reader Version 8.1.3 and later support faxing from Windows and from Sage Master Builder. IMPORTANT: To fax from Sage Master Builder, the Windows Fax Service component must be installed with your Window operating system. For more information about installing the Fax Service component, see the Help topic, Installing the Windows Fax Service component. Other Changes to window and task bar icon behavior In version 13: When you minimize the Sage Master Builder window with any number of open subwindows open, the main window minimizes to one task bar icon leaving all the other subwindows open. Each window can be minimized or maximized individually. Any open window can be in front of or in back of other windows, including the main window. In version 14: When you minimize the Sage Master Builder window with any number of open subwindows open, all windows minimize to one task bar icon. When the main window is open, all open sub-windows appear as an individual task bar icon along with the main window icon. When you maximize the single Sage Master Builder window using the task bar icon, all the windows open with the main window active and the sub-windows in front. The main window does not come to the front and cover a sub-window even when it is the active window. Sage System Verifier has been moved The Sage System Verifier utility assists with troubleshooting hardware issues related to the Sage licensing component. To locate the Sage System Verifier: Start > All Programs > Sage > Sage System Verifier.

Known Issues and Comments - v14.1 14 Avoid setting display properties to ClearType smooth fonts If your screen display properties are set for using ClearType smooth fonts, text on Sage Master Builder window may appear to be smudged or blurry. If this condition exists, use the following instructions to change the setting. 1 Right-click the Desktop, and select Properties. 2 On the Display Properties window, click the Appearance tab, and then click [Effects...]. 3 On the Effects window, clear the check box, Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts. 4 Click [OK], and then click [Apply] and then [OK] again. You may have to minimize then maximized Sage Master Builder for the changes to take effect. Program executable file renamed The name of the program executable file has changed from MB7.exe to SageMasterBuilder.exe. Possible missing shortcuts when upgrading from version 13 to version 14 on Vista Under these circumstances, shortcuts could be missing during an upgrade: 1 Install version 13 and let the installer launch the program when you click Finish. 2 Create some shortcuts by dragging items from the menu tree to the program desktop. 3 Exit the program, and then upgrade to version 14. 4 Launch version 14, and your shortcuts are missing. I you launch version 13 at a later time by not chosing to launch from the Install Finish button, and follow the same procedure, your shortcuts will not be mssing.
