> Uninstall other programs Uninstall other programs Important! If you already have an antivirus installed, make sure it is properly uninstalled before installing Panda Antivirus 2008. To do this, you only have to follow the steps below: 1. Click the Windows Start button and find the Control Panel. 2. Click Add or Remove programs (Programs and features if you use Windows Vista). 3. Select the program you want to remove and click Remove (Uninstall if you use Windows Vista). 4. Follow the steps in the uninstallation wizard.

> Installation Follow the steps below to ensure correct installation. Once you have followed the steps in this guide, your PC will be completely protected against viruses and other threats. 1. Start installation: Insert the CD in your computer s CD or DVD drive. If you have downloaded Panda Antivirus 2008 from the Internet, run the corresponding file and go to Step 4. Installation 2. Panda Antivirus 2008 will display the installation wizard. If your computer has AutoPlay enabled, go to Step 3. If you are installing from a CD and your computer does not have AutoPlay enabled, installation will not start when you insert the CD. In this case, follow the steps below: 2a. On your PC desktop, double-click My Computer. 2b. Use the right (secondary) mouse button to click the CD or DVD drive where you inserted the disk. 2c. Click Explore (with the main/left mouse button). 2d. Double-click the autorun file and the installation wizard will start up. 3. Click the animated icon to start installation. 4. Select the language in which you want to install the program on your computer and click OK. 5. A welcome screen will appear indicating the Panda Antivirus 2008 components that will be installed on your computer. Click Next.
IInstallation guide Installation 6. Now you will see the License Agreement screen. Click Yes to accept the terms of the agreement. If you click No the installation process will not continue. Installation 7. A screen appears indicating the directory on which the program will be installed. Click Next. 8. Panda Antivirus 2008 will now scan the memory to ensure the program is installed in a virus-free environment. When this scan has ended, you will see a report of any malicious software detected and the action taken with each malicious code. Click OK. Panda Antivirus 2008 will start to copy the files needed to install the protection against malicious software and the firewall.
Installation guide Installation 9. When the files have been copied to the computer, a cooperation agreement is displayed. If you want, you can allow anonymous sending of information about threats that Panda Antivirus 2008 detected on your computer, to help us keep our information up-to-date about the impact of viruses around the world. Installation Click Next to continue. 10. A window appears prompting you to activate the product services on the website. We advise you to activate the product services now so you can enjoy the automatic updates and the rest of services right away. To do it, enable the Activate the services on the website option (it will be enabled by default) and click Next. After completing the Web form, you will receive the data you need to configure the automatic updates and access the rest of services. 11. A window appears telling you that the installation is complete. Take the CD out of the drive and click Finish.

You must activate the product services to: > Service activation 1. Enjoy the daily automatic updates, as long as the product services have not expired. 2. Use technical support and SOS Virus, the service that provides a rapid response to attacks from unknown viruses. 3. Access your personal downloads area, where you can download the latest available product versions and documentation. You only need to activate the product services if : 1. You have bought the product in a store. 2. You have bought a new computer and Panda Antivirus 2008 was part of the software that came with the computer. If this is your case, follow the instructions below to activate the services. If this is not the case and you have received an email with your client details, you can now configure the program so that it updates automatically by following the instructions in the Update settings section. Service activation NOTE: Even if your product may have more than one license, you only need to activate the services once. You can configure updates on the different computers using the same user name and password. Follow these steps to activate the services: A Double-click the program icon in the Windows Taskbar (next to the system clock). B In the Panda Antivirus 2008 main window, click the question mark (in the top-right corner) and then click Activate (Web). C Now your Internet browser will open. Follow these steps: 1. Select the country you are in and a language.
Installation guide Service activation 2. If you have activated the services of one of our products before, indicate if you want to extend their duration and click Next. Enter your client number and email address. Click Next. NOTE: If you do not remember your client number, click the option that appears at the bottom of the window and we will send you an email with your details. If you haven t activated the services of one of our products before, you will have to specify if you have bought the product for business use. Select Yes or No and click Next. Service activation 3. Complete the form with your data. You must complete all the fields marked with an asterisk to be able to proceed. Two fields are of particular importance: Email address: Your client details (essential to configure the updates) will be sent to that email address. This must be a valid email address, otherwise you will not receive important information. Activation code: You will find this code in the product case, stuck to the CD. 4. A screen appears with important information. Print this information and/or keep it in a safe place. NOTES: Write this information down before closing the final window in the service activation process. Just in case, we will also send you this information by email to the address that you have entered in the form. If you cannot activate the services at this moment (for example, because you are not connected to the Internet), do not worry: you can do so at any time. However, it is highly advisable that you activate your product services as soon as possible. It is not possible to guarantee optimum protection if the product services have not been activated. Also, in several days time the product will cease to update. Once you have activated the services of Panda Antivirus 2008 on the web page, you will have to configure the automatic updates.
> Configuring updates Panda Antivirus 2008 updates automatically the first time it detects an open Internet connection. However, you must configure automatic updates for them to continue taking place in the future. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Double-click the program icon in the Windows Taskbar, (next to the system clock). 2. Check that automatic updates are enabled, by following these steps. a) Click Updates settings. b) Make sure the Enable automatic updates checkbox is selected. 3. In the User ID section, enter the user name and password provided to you when you activated the product services. NOTE: If you haven t activated your product services yet, do it now by following the instructions in the Service Activation section of this guide. If you didn t write down this data when you activated the services, don t worry. We have sent them to you by email. Print the email and keep it safe. You might need it in the future. Configuring updates After entering your user name and password, check if they are correct by clicking Check details. You need to have an open Internet connection to do this. NOTE: Occasionally, especially if you have just activated the services, the program might indicate that the data entered is incorrect even though it is valid. In this case, try again later.
Installation guide Configuring updates Click OK to finish the process. From this moment on, Panda Antivirus 2008 will update automatically every time it is necessary and it detects an open connection to the Internet. Configuring updates
> Self-diagnosis and scanning Now it is time to carry out a self-diagnosis (an analysis of the program status), which will tell you the status of your computer's protection. To do this: 1. Right-click the panda icon in the taskbar (next to the clock). 2. In the menu that appears, click (with the main/left button) Start self-diagnosis. A pop-up warning will appear indicating the protection status of your computer, similar to this. NOTE: A high protection level notice indicates that your computer is adequately protected. If the self-diagnosis warning indicates that the protection level is medium or low, there is the possibility that the program is not updated yet. Even though Panda Antivirus 2008 updates automatically while your PC is connected to the Internet, you can also update it easily whenever you want, by following these steps: 1. Right-click the bear icon in the Windows taskbar (next to the system clock). 2. In the menu that appears, click Update to start the process. NOTE: Remember that, for the program to update, your PC must be connected to the Internet. Installation guide Self-diagnosis and scanning Now is the best time to carry out a full scan of your PC. To do this: 1. Double-click the panda icon in the taskbar (next to the Windows clock). The main Panda Antivirus 2008 window will open. 2. Select Scan. 3. Click Scan all My Computer. The scan will start. Once you have carried out this scan, your computer will be protected and free from all malicious software as well as intrusions and other threats. Self-diagnosis and scanning
Panda Antivirus 2008 is a complete security tool offering integrated protection for your PC with a range of complementary functions. Updates The automatic updates in Panda Antivirus 2008 are carried out daily. These updates involve the renewal of a file belonging to the program: the virus and malware signature file. Protection against known threats Panda Antivirus 2008 detects and eliminates all types of known malicious software that could reach or leave your computer through any means (email, Internet downloads, file sharing, etc.).
