2 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL VLADIMIR KALAMANOV Director General of ISEDC «In 2015, heads of state and government leaders, UN high level officials and prominent representatives of the civil society participated in a historical event approval of new sustainable development goals as part of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly. As a matter of fact, the countries have developed a new, all-purpose agenda for sustainable development based on 17 ambitious goals to be achieved until 2030. Three out of seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 7 "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all", Goal 13 "Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts" and Goal 4 "Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning", represent the basis for competence of the International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, and our Centre aims to make its feasible contribution to achievement of these SDGs. Sustainable energy development is one of the key conditions for stable growth of the global economy. The keys to the global prosperity and sustainable development lie in clean, efficient, affordable and reliable energy services along with accelerating efforts aimed at prevention of climate change and negative consequences of climate changes, as well as development and strengthening of human capacity building. Our Centre will continue to actively engage its expertise aimed at cooperation in solving these problems».
