Installing Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager Installation scenarios Before you install Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager, choose the scenario that best meets the needs of your business. Scenario 1: New installation, intending to monitor 1-5 Tioli Storage Manager serers. Scenario 2: New installation, intending to monitor more than 5 Tioli Storage Manager serers. Scenario 3: Installing in to an existing IBM Tioli Monitoring enironment, intending to monitor 1-5 Tioli Storage Manager serers. Scenario 4: Installing in to an existing IBM Tioli Monitoring enironment, intending to monitor more than 5 Tioli Storage Manager serers. Consider the following restrictions before you decide which scenario to use: If you hae a Tioli Storage Manager serer that is in a different time zone than the system with Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager, install the monitoring agent on the Tioli Storage Manager serer. See Scenario 2 to install the agent directly on the Tioli Storage Manager serer. If you hae more than fie serers, install the monitoring agent on each of the serers because it is the most efficient use of memory on both the Tioli Storage Manager serer and the Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager serer. You can only install the monitoring agent on AIX, Linux X86_64, and Windows operating systems. Table 1. The following tables list the minimum hardware and software requirements that are required for Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. IBM Jaa ersion 7 is required to start the Tioli Enterprise Portal. IBM Jaa ersion 7 is included with Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. If the Common Reporting portlet is blank when opened in Internet Explorer, the default security settings might be too restrictie. Complete these steps to modify the security settings: 1. In the Internet Explorer window, click Tools > Internet Options. On the Security tab, click Custom leel. 2. Locate the Miscellaneous category, disable the Access data sources across domains option, and click OK to apply the changes. Tip: If your browser does not display correctly, consider using a different browser. To aoid potential compatibility issues with web browsers, you can iew the Tioli Enterprise Portal remotely by using the Jaa Web Start applet: 1. Connect to http://hostname:1920. 2. Click IBM Tioli Enterprise Portal Web Start Client to start the Jaa Web Start client. 3. Optional: Create a desktop shortcut to start Tioli Enterprise Portal in the future. Ports IBM Tioli Monitoring uses ports 1918 and 1920. Installing Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager IBM Installation Manager Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager uses IBM Installation Manager, which is an installation program that can use remote or local software repositories to install or update many IBM products. If the required ersion of IBM Installation Manager is not already installed, it is automatically installed or upgraded when you install Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. It must remain installed on the system so that you can update or uninstall Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager as needed. The following list contains explanations of some terms that are used in IBM Installation Manager: Offering An installable unit of a software product. The Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager offering contains all of the media that IBM Installation Manager requires to install Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. Package The group of software components that are required to install an offering. The Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager package contains the following components: IBM Installation Manager installation program DB2 IBM Tioli Monitoring Tioli Storage Manager agent Package group A set of packages that share a common parent directory. The default package group for the Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager package is IBM Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. Repository A remote or local storage area for data and other application resources. The Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager package is stored in a repository on IBM Fix Central. Shared resources directory A directory that contains software files or plug-ins that are shared by packages. IBM Installation Manager stores installation-related files in the shared resources directory, including files that are used for uninstalling Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. Chapter 2. Installing Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager Capacity planning Planning details include determining how many serers you want to monitor, how many agents and agent instances are required, and how much memory and space are necessary for growth oer time. About this task The following list proides planning guidelines so you can anticipate the growth of your system oer time, depending on how many monitoring agents are in your enironment: Each agent instance, whether it is an IBM Tioli Monitoring agent, or a Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager agent, requires approximately 150 MB of memory. Each agent also requires up to 300 MHz worth of a single CPU core during data collection. During a one-year period, the data WAREHOUS can grow to approximately 500 GB for each Tioli Storage Manager serer that is being monitored using the installation defaults. This alue depends on the number of nodes that are being backed up and archied to that serer, and the frequency of backups that occur. Enabling pruning on the monitoring serer can reduce the size of the WAREHOUS database by approximately 50 percent. Installation worksheet Use this worksheet to record information that you need when you install and administer Tioli Monitoring for Tioli Storage Manager. The worksheet includes seeral passwords for user accounts that are created during the installation. The worksheet is intended to help you remember the alues that you specified after the installation. This user has permission to complete all the administratie tasks in DB2. The password must be 8-14 characters in length and can include letters, numbers, @, or #. DB2 port Default port number The default port number is the first free port starting with 50000. db2grp1 encryption key This is the group that the DB2 instance user ID belongs to. A default encryption key is proided and the fields are prefilled with the default key. You can specify a different key, howeer, it is not necessary. The encryption key is used to establish a secure connection (using SSL protocol) between the Hub TEMS and the other components of the IBM Tioli Monitoring enironment. Valid port numbers are 1024-65535. IBMTioliMonitoringEncryptionKey Must be exactly 32 characters in length. Valid characters are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, @,!, and #. You can log in to the Tioli Enterprise Portal without specifying a password. If you want this ID to require a password during login, you can manually create the sysadmin ID, and specify a password. The administrator that is used to log on to IBM Dashboard Application Serices Hub. You can access the Tioli Common Reporting reports in the dashboard. The user ID is created during the installation of Jazz for Serice Management. Tioli Data Warehouse user name and password. This user has access to read the information from the WAREHOUS database. Note: You are only prompted for this information during configuration of the warehouse, not at installation time. You can specify which directory that you want to store the DB2 instance information. This is where the database is stored by default. If you specify /home, the instance information is stored in /home/db2admin. If you specify /information/db2, the instance information is stored in /information/db2/db2admin. Ensure that there is enough space aailable in this directory and that the directory has write-access. If you intend to monitor more than one Tioli Storage Manager serer, you must hae unique agent instance names for each instance.
