Achieving Continuous Security Compliance in the Cloud To our knowledge, our enterprise-class cloud service is the first cloud Certified and Accredited (C&A d) to the government s FIPS moderate security level, explained Nicoletti. This certification process is thorough and exhaustive requiring hundreds of control steps, volumes of documentation, and review of numerous complex processes. It also necessitates considerable physical security to protect the environment. We quickly passed the certification with only a single exception which we quickly addressed in less than 12 hours. For the physical accreditation, no modifications were required which is practically unheard of! Security is a key issue in all government projects and the GSA had a major concern about comingling data between government projects and commercial entities. Reducing the comingling of data is accomplished by a few different factors. First, the use of VMware ESX Server and resource pools allows the customer to have a dedicated resource that is not oversubscribed on top of a second customer. Secondly, leveraging a separate firewall context for each customer provides network autonomy through the use of customerdedicated interfaces and VLANs. Finally, the Terremark Infinicenter web portal ensures virtual disk placement is dedicated and provides a unique environment per customer. 16

Most employees and customers did not know we moved data centers until a company wide announcement 20
The move to Terremark has resulted in many benefits Our support has never been better, there are fewer calls to our production support team, but if there are, we react quickly Reduced our need for capital investments on hardware freeing up for software projects Digital Ops + VMWare console has given us the visibility we need to act quickly Disaster recovery is now under way, the traditional model would have been too costly Environmental benefits have been good for Broadlane, winner of the Champion of Change award (Environmental Excellence) in 2007 due to our emphasis on reducing our environmental impact Our own testing environments are now able to mimic production, DR underway Reduced our data center costs by two thirds! 21
