Line Cards for Flexible System Configuration With MEN s series of line cards all 25 Ethernet ports of G101 and G102 can be led to the front, allowing a flexible configuration with up to three GExx cards, which can be again extended by up to three GPxx cards. Multiport Gigabit Switch for Entertainment Server The G101 standard managed switch card with a 29 Gbit/s switch matrix is used in an in-flight entertainment server. The components used in the server are from different suppliers and based on standard protocols to provide interoperability. They are connected in a network ring topology increasing reliability. SCADA System for Fleet Management The custom-specific, fanless, SCADA-based automotive data logger is used to record and pre-process information in trucks and busses. Information from one, or several, vehicles is sent to the headquarters via UMTS, indicating the vehicle s status and position as well as when it s next scheduled maintenance is due. Application-specific functions, such as CAN bus interfaces, are implemented as IP cores in the onboard FPGA. 22
WLAN Server for Company Buses The CompactPCI WLAN server supplies employees during their commute with passenger internet, local portals and passenger information services. The complete Wi-Fi based entertainment solution uses F223 carrier cards for two PCIe Mini Cards and up to 18 SIM cards on one board. In case the data volume of one SIM card is depleted, an easy change to the next SIM card is possible. Passenger Comfort and Diagnostic Data This wireless service system takes care of passenger comfort functions like video/audio streaming, information about the tour schedule via a wireless customer portal as well as for reservation-, master- and diagnostic data recording and transmitting and analyzing passenger information. The system is based on MEN COTS products: the CompactPCI Serial multicore CPU board with an PCI Express Mini Card carrier providing the UMTS and WLAN functionality and an interface card for GPS and serial I/O. 25
Oilfield Server Platform and Router This robust server platform is installed directly on the drilling sites and communicates with the operator s data processing center in real time from here via GSM, relaying all the data relating to the position of the drill head, resistance in the drilling mud, as well as general function and error analyses. The powerful computer with 200 W of waste heat uses three times conduction cooling frames and housings to ensure sufficient heat dissipation and protection against the rough sea. 26
