Installing the WD My Cloud Backup Device The existing network attached storage device, WD My Book World, in each county office is old and unreliable. To make sure your files and folders continue to be backed up on a continuous basis, your office has been given a new device to install. The WD My Cloud backup device is to be connected to your office s network. You can simply disconnect the existing WD backup device and replace it with the WD My Cloud device. Then, every computer user in the office will use this handout to make sure his/her computer is set up to talk with the new device for the purpose of backing up critical files and folders. This handout has multiple sections to guide you through the various processes: uninstalling the WD Anywhere Backup software, installing the WD Smartware software, setting up the backup, and (in the event you need it) retrieving your backup from the device. Let s get started! Uninstallation of WD Anywhere Backup Note: You can skip this section if you are connecting a new computer to the WD My Cloud backup device. 1. Click on [Start] and then click on [Control Panel].

2. If your Control Panel view is set to Category, then click on [Uninstall a program] in the Programs category. Continue to step 4. 3. If your Control Panel view is set to either Small Icons or Large Icons, then click on [Programs and Features]. 2

4. Find WD Anywhere Backup in the list of programs and click on it. Then, click on [Uninstall/Change] or [Uninstall] -- if Uninstall and Change are separate items. 5. On the WD Anywhere Backup Uninstall window click on [No]. Note: This window may take a while to display. Please be patient. 6. Once the uninstallation process is complete, click on [Close]. 3

7. If a browser window or tab opens immediately taking you to memeo.com website, just close it. 4

WD My Cloud Device Setup 1. Please make sure your computer is connected to the internet and open your internet browser of choice (e.g., Firefox or Chrome). Type mycloud.com/setup in the browser s address bar and press <enter>. At the Welcome to My Cloud page, click on [Get started]. 2. Allow the website to search for the device. If you see a login screen and the password section says no password created, please click on [Login]. When prompted, check the box to agree to the WD End User License Agreement (EULA) and click on [Continue]. 5

3. You will be prompted to create a password. The password to use here is Mountaineers! so type it in both the Password and Confirm Password fields. Click on [Next] to continue. Please make sure you type this password correctly so we can manage it properly in the future. Type: Mountaineers! for both Password and Confirm Password. 4. You will be prompted to create a personal cloud account, which you do not want to do. Do not fill in any information just click on the [Next] button. 6

5. Turn the Product Improvement Program to OFF (simply click on the ON button) and do not fill out any of the registration information. Then, click on [Next]. 6. Click on [Finish] to complete the WD My Cloud device setup process. 7

WD SmartWare Software Setup 1. If you copied the installation software to a flash drive, insert the USB flash drive into your computer and click on Open folder to view files. Otherwise, go to http://employees.extension.wvu.edu/technology/equipment/county-backup-device or http://bit.ly/county-backup to download the software and continue to step 2. 2. Double-click on the file named WD SmartWare Installer.exe. (If you are not working from a flash drive, you may need to go to the Downloads folder to find the installation file.) 3. At the Welcome screen click on [Next]. 8

4. Check the box next to the WD EULA and then click on [Install]. 5. If you see a User Account Control window, please click on [Yes]. 9

6. Once the installation is complete, click on [Finish]. The WD SmartWare software will automatically open. 7. If you see a screen titled Upgrade to WD SmartWare Pro, click on [Skip]. 10

8. You will see a window with your computer name and an arrow pointing toward your WD My Cloud device. Select the WD My Cloud device and click [Next]. 9. On the Select Backup Plan window, select File Backup and then click on [Next]. 11

10. On the Select Backup Plan window, select Continuous Backup and click on [Next]. 11. On the Backup window, select all of the folders within your user account. These files will be under C:\users\YourUserName (shown here is TBealmear). Note: You may need to expand the listing by clicking on the triangle icon next to Users and then next to your account username. Once all of the folders within your user folder are selected, deselect the folder called AppData. Once done, click on [Enable Backup]. 12

12. On the WD SmartWare window, click on [OK] to finish setting up your backup plan. Once you have confirmed your backup has been created, you can close any open windows. 13

Restoring files using SmartWare 1. Click on the Start button then click on All Programs. Find the folder called WD Discovery and click on it. Next, click on WD SmartWare. (Note: If you see a folder named More WD Apps, you may need to expand it to see WD Smartware. ) 2. Click on the Retrieve tab. In the section Where would you like to copy your retrieved files, select To the Original Places and click on [Next]. 14

3. Browse to the file or folder that you d like to retrieve and check the box next to it. Then, click on [Start Retrieving]. Once the retrieval (restore) process has finished, you will see File retrieval complete in the top left corner of the WD SmartWare window. Note: While we have made every attempt to test the installation instructions on many computers, it's possible you might see a screen or prompt we didn't anticipate. Please let us know if the instructions do not match what you experience as you install and setup your backup device. If you have any questions or problems, please contact the ITS Service Desk by phone (304-293-4444 or 877-327-9260) or email.
