Tjänst: Network Health Total Network Volume and Total Call Volume Charts Public The Total Network Volume chart shows the total traffic volume for the group of elements in the report. Chart Description The Total Volume chart report the total traffic volume or total connection time for the months, weeks, or days in the baseline period and compares it to the trend line for the same set of elements. These charts have the following characteristics: The vertical axis represents the traffic volume or connection time. The Total Call Volume chart specifies connection time in call minutes. Depending on the element type the Total Network Volume chart specifies traffic volume in one of the following units of measurements: o Bytes, the default o Cells o Frames o Percentage of bandwidth To determine the unit of measurement used by a chart, examine the label on the vertical axis. If the unit of measurement is frames, bytes, or call minutes, the scale of the vertical axis adjusts to the values in the report. The horizontal axis displays a bar for each day or week in the baseline period. Each bar displays the traffic volume or connection time for the entire group of elements.

o The labels that identify the bar appear below the horizontal axis. A bar represents a day, week, or month of the baseline period. The bar for the most recent day, week, or month is on the right. o Each bar displays the traffic volume or connection time for the entire group of elements on that day, week, or month. The trend line shows the predicted behavior of the group of elements, based on historical data. How to Use this Chart Use both the trend line and the individual bars to understand the trends and patterns of demand on your network: Examine the trend line. If network volume or connection time is trending upwards, refer to Bandwidth Utilization charts to determine if you need to plan for additional bandwidth Examine bars to identify regular patterns of usage on your network. For example, the bars might indicate that a network has more activity on Mondays than on Fridays and more activity at the end of the month than in the middle of the month. On WAN links, if network volume spikes at certain times, you might be able to arrange for bandwidth-on-demand or other flexible solutions from your provider.

Situations to Watch Chart The Situations to Watch tabular chart identifies the top network conditions that require attention or resolution. This chart appears in the Top Ten section and can appear in the Supplemental section of a Health report. Chart Description Network Health identifies a situation-to-watch by a Health Index variable that is predicted to exceed or reach or is close to reaching a Trend threshold. This chart shows the top 10 situations in order of severity. This table always lists ten situations, unless there were less than 10. An element can be listed more than once if more than one Health Index variable is causing a situation-to-watch. The Situations to Watch table provides the following information: Column Rank Element Name Variable Threshold Value Average Actual Description The relative position of this situation compared to other situations in the report, for the report period. The situation that is most severe is listed first. A name that identifies the element. The name of the Health Index variable causing this condition The value assigned to the Trend threshold for the Health Index variable Network Health sets default trend threshold values. The value reported for the Health Index variable based on what the element actually did during the reported day, week, or month For a daily Health report, the reported day is the day for which the report was run. For a weekly or monthly Health report, the reported day is the last day of the

week or month for which you collected data. For example, if you do not include Saturday and Sunday in your report, and you run the report on Saturday or Sunday, the last reported day is Friday. Average Predicted Days To (From) Threshold The expected value for the Health Index variable for the reported day, week, or month. Network Health calculates this value based on historic performance. The predicted value is the value Network Health forecasted for the day, week, or month, based on the Trend line. One of the following: Chronic Indicates that the predicted value of the Health Index variable has exceeded the Trend threshold for an extremely long period of time (at least three times the baseline period used for the report) and the trend is not improving Increasing Indicates that the predicted value of the variable is slowly approaching the Trend threshold, but will not reach the threshold for a period of time that is more than three times the baseline period Decreasing Indicates that the predicted value of the variable is improving (moving away from the Trend threshold) (number) Indicates the number of days that the predicted value has exceeded the Trend threshold 0 Indicates that the value of the variable is at the Trend threshold number Indicates the predicted number of days until the value of the variable reaches the Trend threshold How to Use this Table The Situations to Watch table shows you the top ten situations that you should investigate in your network. The table lists the situation in the Variable column and the affected element in the Name column. For example, in the sample table for LAN elements above, the highest ranking situation is the Volume variable on the hub1-seg element. Network Health predicts that in 16 days the volume will reach the Trend threshold for that variable. The table also tells you the threshold (20.000), the daily average actual value (19.119), and the daily average predicted value (15.570). This report demonstrates the values of the specified variable during the baseline period, the value of the Trend threshold, and when the performance intercepted the threshold.

With this information, you can take steps to correct situations that are increasing as problems. For example, using the sample table, you might investigate why the volume has increased on the hub1-seg element. Network Health predicts that in 16 days, the volume will reach the Trend threshold for that variable. You might have to reroute users to other, less-utilized segments, add a segment, or take other corrective steps if the volume is increasing beyond your network operating thresholds. As you review the Situations to Watch table, keep the following in mind: If the Days to Threshold column has a value of 14 or less, investigate the variable and the element. If the variable has a high predicted daily average but the actual daily average is below threshold, often a problem has been fixed. If the predicted and actual daily averages are higher than the threshold, the value of the Health Index variable is likely already over the Trend threshold. For help about the various conditions listed in the chart, see the following: Element Type Variable Prescriptive Actions LAN or WAN interfaces, servers LAN or WAN interfaces, routers, or servers Frame Relay PVCs WAN interfaces Routers Routers or servers Volume (Bandwidth %) Make sure the speeds for the interfaces are set correctly in the poller configuration. Volume Leaders and Call Volume Leaders Chart The Volume Leaders chart and table identify the busiest elements in the report. This chart appears in the Top Ten section and can appear in the Supplemental section of a Health report for LAN/WAN interfaces, routers, servers, modem pools, or remote access servers (RAS). Chart Description The Volume Leaders chart and table show the ten elements that had the highest traffic volume for the report period. The chart and table display the traffic volume attributed to each element and the Health Index assigned to each element. Note: A WAN or Frame Relay element can appear twice, once for each end of the link. This chart has the following characteristics: The vertical axis marks the volume of traffic. Depending on the element type and the settings in the service profile for the report, the chart specifies volume in one of the following units of measurements: o Bytes, the default o Call minutes o Cells o Frames

o Percentage of bandwidth utilization To determine the unit of measurement used, examine the label on the vertical axis. If the unit of measurement is frames, bytes, or call minutes, the scale of the vertical axis adjusts to the values in the report. The horizontal axis displays a bar for each element. o A number that identifies the rank of the element appears below the horizontal axis. The table lists both the rank and the element name. o The busiest elements appear on the left of the chart. o Each bar displays the volume of traffic for the element during the report period. Table Description The table provides the following information; some columns appear only for specific types of elements: Column Rank Description The standing of the elements with the highest volume for the report period Prior Rank The standing of the elements with the highest volume for the day before the report period Name Speed Volume Volume in Call Minutes Volume vs Baseline Bandwidth Avg Bandwidth Peak CPU Loading Avg CPU Loading Peak The name of the element For a single interface, the capacity of the interface. For a router, server, modem pool, or RAS, the aggregated capacity of all interfaces on the device The amount of traffic that the element processed. If applicable, the volume includes both incoming and outgoing traffic. The label to the left of the vertical axis specifies the unit in which the volume is measured (for example, bytes, megabytes, or frames). The number of call minutes that the element handled (remote access elements only) The percentage of change (negative or positive) between the volume for the report period and the average volume for the baseline period. Average bandwidth utilization for the report period (LAN and WAN elements only) Highest bandwidth utilization for any polling period during the report period (LAN and WAN elements only) The average CPU utilization percentage for the report period (router and server elements only) The highest CPU utilization percentage for the report period (router and server elements only)

Connect Time % Avg Connect Time % Peak % Pool Busy Avg % Pool Busy Peak Health Index Avg Health Index Peak The average connection time percentage for the RAS during the report interval (RAS elements only) The highest connection time percentage for the RAS for any one poll during the report period (RAS elements only) The average pool busy percentage for the modem pool during the report period (modem pool elements only) The highest pool busy percentage for the modem pool during the report period (modem pool elements only) The average Health Index for the element during the report period The highest Health Index assigned to the element during the report period How to Use this Chart This chart is most helpful if the report contains elements of comparable bandwidth capacity (speed). Examine the chart and table for missing or new elements. Generally, the same elements appear on this table each time you run the Health report. The absence of an element that normally appears or the appearance of a new element can indicate a problem. Compare the Bandwidth Peak value to the Bandwidth Avg value. If the two values are significantly different, the usage is bursty; refer to Bursty Bandwidth Utilization. Compare the Health Index Peak value to the Health Index Avg value. If the two values are significantly different, run an At-a-Glance report on the element to determine when the peak occurred. Consider whether the peak might indicate the start of a continuing problem, or whether the problem has been fixed. Examine the Health Index Avg value. Investigate any element with a high Health Index Avg., particularly if that element also displays low volume. Examine the following charts for supporting information: Bandwidth Utilization chart Volume Change Leaders Health Index Leaders Network Interface Utilization Partition Utilization CPU Utilization Element Health Index Examine an At-a-Glance report on the element to further investigate any potential problems.

Health Index Leaders Chart The Health Index Leaders tabular chart lists the elements with the highest (worst) Health Index. This chart appears in the Top Ten section and can appear in the Supplemental section of a Health report. Chart Description The Health Index Leaders chart lists the elements that might require investigation because of poor average ratings on one or more Health Index variables. Network Health assigns a Health Index grade to each element at each poll. The average Health Index for an element is the sum of the Health Index grades divided by the number of polls in the report period. The Health Index Leaders chart has the following characteristics: The table lists the ten elements that received the highest Health Index values for the report period. This table always lists ten elements, unless the group has less than ten. The table specifies the name of the Health Index variable that is causing the high Health Index. The table provides the following information; some columns appear only on charts for specific types of elements: Column Description Rank Prior Rank The relative position of this element compared to other elements in the report for the report period, based on average Health Index The relative position of this element compared to other elements in the report for the previous length of time comparable to the report period, based on average Health Index If the report period is a week or month, the Prior Rank is the rank, respectively, for the previous week or month; if the report period is a day, the Prior Rank is the rank of the element for the previous day. If you

A name that identifies the element Cause of high Health Index The name of the Health Index variable that contributed the most to the high Health Index The average Health Index for the element during the report period The highest Health Index assigned to the element for any polling interval during the report period The average CPU utilization percentage for the element during the report period (server and router elements only) The highest CPU utilization percentage for the element for any polling interval during the report period (server and router elements only) The average bandwidth utilization for the element during the report period (LAN and WAN elements only) The highest bandwidth utilization for any polling interval during the report period (LAN and WAN elements only) The average connection time percentage for the element during the report period (RAS, modem, and ISDN elements only) The highest connection time percentage for any polling interval during the report period (RAS, modem, and ISDN elements only) The average pool busy percentage for the modem pool during the report period (modem pool elements only) The highest pool busy percentage for any polling interval during the report period (modem pool elements only) How to Use this Chart The Health Index Leaders chart helps you quickly recognize elements that might be experiencing problems and to identify the main contributing factor. Click the bar for an element to view a Health Index Detail report. This report contains charts that demonstrate, over the report period, the values for the Health Index variables compared to the settings of the Health Index thresholds and the assignment of Health Index points. Some of the listed elements could actually be healthy. If in doubt, run an At-a- Glance report on the element to examine it more closely.

Volume Change Leaders Chart The Volume Change Leaders chart identifies elements that experience sudden shifts in volume. This chart appears in the Top Ten section and can appear in the Supplemental section of a Health report. Chart Description The Volume Change Leaders table has the following characteristics: This chart shows the ten elements that experienced the largest percentage change in volume between the average for the report period and the average for the comparable period during the baseline period. This chart always displays ten elements, unless the group has less than ten. The Volume Change Leaders Supplemental report can provide the same information for additional elements. The table provides the following information: Column Description Rank Prior Rank Name Volume Volume The relative position of this element compared to other elements in the report, for the report period, based on percentage of volume change The relative position of this element compared to other elements in the report, for the previous length of time comparable to the report period If the report period is a week or month, the Prior Rank is the rank, respectively, for the previous week or month; if the report period is a day, the Prior Rank is the rank of the element for the previous day. If you are reporting on the business week only (Monday-Friday), the Prior Rank for a Monday report is the rank on Friday. A name that identifies the element The number of bytes the element processed during the report period, both incoming and outgoing The percentage of change between the volume for the report

vs. Baseline period and the average volume for the baseline period Changes that are increasing are indicated as a positive value, and decreasing changes are indicated as a negative value. Elements are ranked according to the absolute value of the change, whether the change is positive or negative. How to Use this Chart Use this chart to isolate elements that might require attention. Based on information in the chart, consider the following: Sudden shifts in volume can be caused by the addition of new applications on a server, changes in workload, or the unavailability of a WAN link. When new elements are brought online or if elements experience outages, they appear on this chart. Elements that process a lot of data generally do not appear on this chart. If such an element does appear, investigate it immediately. For routers or LAN or WAN interfaces, examine the Bandwidth Utilization chart to determine whether utilization is approaching or exceeding capacity. Run an At-a-Glance report on the element (you can drill down from the charts in the Element Detail section). The At-a-Glance report can tell you what time of day the unexpected volume occurred, the volume before and after the unexpected volume, the direction of the traffic, and the sideeffects of the increase or decrease in traffic. The volume processed by an element can be more significant than the change or the rank. For example, in the chart above, the first-ranked element was recently brought online. The 300% increase in volume is expected. The 56.3% increase in volume for the second-ranked element indicates a more significant problem because of the amount of volume the element processes (4.9G) and the change in rank (from 7th to 2nd).

Element Volume vs. Baseline Chart The Element Volume vs Baseline chart shows the volume for each of the elements that processed the largest amount of volume, and. This chart appears in the Element Summary section of a Health report. Chart Description The Element Volume vs Baseline chart compares an element's volume during the report period to its volume during the baseline period. This chart has the following characteristics: The vertical axis represents the traffic volume in bytes, frames, or as a percentage of available bandwidth. By default, Network Health sets the vertical axis to display the volume as the number of bytes. The axis scales to the highest reported volume during the baseline period. The horizontal axis displays a bar for each element. o Roll the pointer over a bar to see the name of the element. o The height of the bar indicates the volume for the report period. o Click a bar to see an At-a-Glance chart for the element. Lines on top of and above each bar identify the following for each element: Baseline High The highest volume experienced during the baseline period Baseline Average Baseline Low The average volume experienced during the baseline period The lowest volume experienced during the baseline period How to Use this Chart This graph can help you identify elements that are experiencing above- or belowaverage volume. You should investigate the cause of any significant changes. Use the following to interpret what you see in the chart: Pattern Interpretation and Action

Sudden and dramatic increase in volume Investigate immediately. Examine the Volume Change Leaders chart to investigate other elements that might not be operational and shifting work to this element. For more information, refer to Using Health Reports to Troubleshoot Your Network. Volume reaches a new high Watch. Examine utilization charts. Element might be nearing capacity. For more information, refer to Network Capacity Planning. Inconsistent volume Investigate. Drill down to an At-a-Glance report where you can observe the behavior of the element over time. For more information, refer to Using Health Reports to Troubleshoot Your Network. Consistent and steady volume No action necessary. Volume reaches a new low Investigate immediately. Element might not be operational. For more information, refer to Using Health Reports to Troubleshoot Your Network.

Bandwidth Utilization Chart The Bandwidth Utilization chart shows the load on your network interfaces. This chart appears in the Element Detail section of LAN/WAN and Router Health reports. Chart Description The Bandwidth Utilization chart displays the percentage of time that an element spent in each utilization range. In Health reports on LAN/WAN interfaces, the chart displays the bandwidth utilization ranges for each interface. In Health reports on routers, Network Health calculates a bandwidth utilization rate for a router by averaging the bandwidth utilization rates for all the interfaces on the router. The chart displays the average bandwidth utilization ranges for each router. This chart has the following characteristics: The vertical axis marks percentages of the report period. The legend on the right of the chart lists the utilization ranges. The horizontal axis displays a bar for each element. o Roll the pointer over a bar to see the name of the element. o The color of a section of the bar indicates a utilization range as a percentage of bandwidth capacity. o The sections are arranged with the lowest ranges at the bottom of the bar and the highest ranges at the top of the bar. o The difference between the bottom and top of a section indicates the percentage of the day that the element spent at the range. The second element from the right in the example chart spent approximately 28% of the day in the 91 to 100 range. The Bandwidth Utilization chart uses the following ranges: Range Utilization Rates over 100 Greater than 100.0% of bandwidth 91 to 100 Greater than 90.0% up to and including 100.0% of bandwidth 81 to 90 Greater than 80.0% up to and including 90.0% of bandwidth

71 to 80 Greater than 70.0% up to and including 80.0% of bandwidth 61 to 70 Greater than 60.0% up to and including 70.0% of bandwidth 51 to 60 Greater than 50.0% up to and including 60.0% of bandwidth 41 to 50 Greater than 40.0% up to and including 50.0% of bandwidth 31 to 40 Greater than 30.0% up to and including 40.0% of bandwidth 21 to 30 Greater than 20.0% up to and including 30.0% of bandwidth 11 to 20 Greater than 10.0% up to and including 20.0% of bandwidth 1 to 10 Greater than 0.0% up to and including 10.0% of bandwidth 0 Up to and including 0.0% of bandwidth How to Use this Chart Examine the Bandwidth Utilization chart to determine the amount of traffic over the interfaces in the report and to determine which interfaces might not have been operational. Use this information to determine which interfaces might need to be upgraded, supplemented, replaced, or repaired. Compare the information in this chart with information in the Element Volume vs. Baseline chart. Click a bar to view an At-a-Glance report for that element. In addition, examine the chart for the following patterns: Pattern Interpretation and Action High bandwidth utilization Red (by default, the second highest utilization range) indicates highly utilized interfaces; users might have experienced slow response on the network. Purple (by default, the highest utilization range) indicates interface utilization in excess of the configured speed. This can occur when usage of Frame Relay interfaces bursts beyond the committed information rate (CIR) or if the speed is misconfigured in the poller configuration. For more information, refer to Evaluating Bandwidth Utilization.

Low bandwidth utilization Green (by default, the lowest utilization range) indicates infrequently used elements. Gray (by default, the unused utilization range) indicates elements that are probably not in operation. For more information, refer to Evaluating Bandwidth Utilization. Bursty traffic Bars that are mostly green, but that have sections that are red or purple indicate interfaces with mostly low utilization but with some time spent in the high utilization ranges; these interfaces are bursty. For more information, refer to Evaluating Bandwidth Utilization. Unreachable elements A bar that does not appear or does not reach 100% indicates an unpolled element. The Network Health system or poller might have been stopped for that day or the server could have been unreachable from the Network Health system. You might click on the bars to see an At-a-Glance chart on the element and investigate possible downtime.

Element Health Index Chart The Element Health Index chart identifies elements that experienced problems and the types of problems they experienced. This chart appears in the Element Detail section of a Health report. Chart Description The Element Health Index chart displays the average Health Index during the report period for each element in the report. Network Health assigns a Health Index grade to each element at each poll. The average Health Index for an element is the sum of the Health Index grades divided by the number of polls in the report period. For example, if you poll elements using a 5-minute polling interval, Network Health polls the elements 288 times each day. The average Health Index for an element for one day is the sum of the 288 Health Index grades divided by 288. This chart has the following characteristics: The vertical axis displays a scale from 0 to 16. The horizontal axis displays a bar for each element. o Roll the pointer over a bar to see the name of the element. o The height of the bar indicates the average Health Index assigned to the element for the report period. Higher bars indicate more severe problems. o The chart shows Health Index values from 0 to 16. If an element has an average Health Index that is greater than 16, the chart shows a triangular symbol at the top of the bar. o The color of a bar or section of a bar indicates a Health Index variable. o The difference between the top and bottom lines of a section indicates the severity of the grade assigned to the element for the Health Index variable. The legend on the right of the chart lists the Health Index variables.

o Network Health calculates an element's Health Index based on the values assigned to these variables. o Network Health measures specific variables for each element type. Health Index Variables lists the variables by element type. o The sample chart is for servers, whose variables are grouped by category. The legend for servers lists the categories. How to Use this Chart Use this chart to determine which elements have problems and to determine the types of problems that contributed to the high Health Index. Click the bar for an element to view a Health Index Detail report. This report contains charts that demonstrate, over the report period, the values for the Health Index variables compared to the settings of the Health Index thresholds and the assignment of Health Index points. For additional suggestions, refer to Troubleshooting High Health Indexes.
