1 Abut Dynamic Strage This Dynamic Strage user guide crrespnds t the EMC-ECS (Elastic Clud Strage) platfrm. Fr the legacy EMC-Atms platfrm a separate Dynamic Strage user guide is available. Dynamic Strage, the Clud Strage f Swisscm, is a pay-per-use Object Strage ptimized fr string data, e.g.: fr backups, archives, strage extensins, big-data, etc. Dynamic Strage can be accessed via the AWS S3 cmpatible API ver HTTPS. There is n ther direct access like CIFS, NFS r iscsi. In rder t access Dynamic Strage frm within a system, the sftware needs t be cded against the S3 cmpatible API. Alternatively, a s called Cnnectr r "access methd" which translates the API twards the prtcl needed, can be used. Swisscm DCS (Dynamic Cmputing Services) users find mre infrmatin abut the usage and prvisining in the DCS user guide (e.g. direct internal cnnectin nt ging thrugh the internet). This guide gives an verview abut the cnnectrs which are fully cmpatible with Dynamic Strage at Swisscm: EMC CIFS-ECS Tl Strage Gateway Appliance Amazn S3 Brwser The fllwing picture gives an verview abut these access methds: Figure 1: Dynamic Strage access methds 3 / 10
In rder t access Dynamic Strage, the fllwing Hst URL are available: 1. Access t Dynamic Strage frm utside Swisscm (ver the Internet): https://ds11s3.swisscm.cm 2. Access t Dynamic Strage fr static web pages and CORS (link): https://<namespace>.ds11s3ns.swisscm.cm 3. Access t Dynamic Strage frm within DCS: DCS traffic may be ruted separately frm the internet traffic therefr des nt affect Internet bandwidth. Please nte: Swisscm recmmends t always encrypt the data befre string t Dynamic Strage. Swisscm prvides a secure data transfer (https), but des nt encrypt the data at rest. Fr mre infrmatin abut Dynamic Strage, please see ur factsheet n the web: www.swisscm.cm/dynamicstrage r get in direct cntact with yur Swisscm representative. 2 Virtual drive, the EMC CIFS-ECS Tl The EMC CIFS-ECS tl is the fficial cnnectr f EMC fr the Clud Strage ECS platfrm (n which Dynamic Strage is based n). The CIFS-ECS tl is a Sftware currently available fr Windws Operating Systems. After installatin, CIFS-ECS prvides a virtual drive (similar t a netwrk share) t the perating system where it is installed n, which pints directly t Dynamic Strage. CIFS-ECS prvides a variety f functinality but n de-duplicatin. Data may be encrypted befre being stred in Dynamic Strage. Whatever is being stred n the virtual drive is autmatically stred t Dynamic Strage. CIFS-ECS supprts tw different mdes: Mirrr Mde: All data is stred lcally and in the clud. Stub Mde: After a cnfigurable time withut access, the data remains stred in Dynamic Strage and is lcally represented by a pinter t this data (the stub ). This mde minimizes the strage requirements n the lcal system. 4 / 10
The fllwing pictures illustrates the CIFS-ECS user interface: Figure 2: CIFS-ECS user interface In rder t cnnect the CIFS-ECS t Dynamic Strage it needs t be cnfigured. The fllwing details are necessary: CIFS-ECS Server Type Server Name Descriptin User ID Secret Access Key Hst name / IP Descriptin ECS (nte: CIFS ECS may nt be used fr the Atms platfrm) A free name can be chsen; it is independent frm Dynamic Strage. Its use is fr free, there are n licensing cst assciated with it and it can be installed n multiple (windws) systems. Further and mre detailed infrmatin can als be fund n the EMC supprt web. Please nte: Flder cntent shwn in CIFS-ECS always shw the default bject: <_$flder$">. This bject cntains the meta data f the respective flder and may nt be changed r deleted. 3 Amazn S3 Brwer The Amazn S3 Brwser allws direct access t Dynamic Strage. It can be dwnladed frm the Amazn Web pages where instructins are available as well. When using the S3 Brwser t access Dynamic Strage users need t be aware that the functinality f the S3 Brwser may be limited when being used fr S3 cmpatible strage. Hwever, Bucket and flder management, file up- and dwnlad etc. can easily be dne. 6 / 10

4 Strage Gateway Appliance A variety f Strage Gateway Appliances are available frm different suppliers. E.g. are the Clud Array Appliance frm Dell-EMC r the AltaVault Appliance frm NetApp. Strage Gateway Appliances are ptimized fr large data sets. They ffer functins like: lcal strage, caching, deduplicatin and encryptin. Fr example: A Strage Gateway Appliance may fr instance be cnsidered as a replacement fr a tape infrastructure (the backup media) replicating data t Dynamic Strage Strage Gateway Appliances are available as a dedicated hardware appliance (fr installatin directly in the n premise data centre) r as a sftware image (VMware) with an ut-f-the-bx perating system (based n Linux/Unix) fr virtual envirnments. Swisscm prvides cnsultancy and integratin t its custmers fr Strage Gateway Appliances. 5 Amazn S3 cmpatible API Applicatins may use the S3 cmpatible API directly. 7 Glssary Object Strage A strage architecture that manages data as bjects, as ppsed t ther strage architectures like file systems which manages data as a file hierarchy and blck strage which manages data as blcks within sectrs and tracks. CIFS In cmputer netwrking, Server Message Blck (SMB), the mdern dialect f which is knwn as Cmmn Internet File System. CIFS perates as an applicatin-layer netwrk prtcl mainly used fr prviding shared access t files, printers, serial prts, and miscellaneus cmmunicatins between ndes n a netwrk. iscsi In cmputing, iscsi, is an acrnym fr Internet Small Cmputer System Interface, an Internet Prtcl (IP)- based strage netwrking standard fr linking data strage facilities. NFS Netwrk File System (NFS) is a distributed file system prtcl riginally develped by Sun Micrsystems in 1984, allwing a user n a client cmputer t access files ver a netwrk much like lcal strage is accessed. REST Representatinal state transfer (REST) is an architectural style cnsisting f a crdinated set f cnstraints applied t cmpnents, cnnectrs, and data elements, within a distributed hypermedia system. 10 / 10
