Quick Reference Working with the SMART Table Toolkit You can use the SMART Table Toolkit to customize the SMART Table activities software on your SMART Table. You can customize learning activities in the SMART Table Toolkit on your computer, save the customizations to a file on a USB storage device, and then sync (connect) the USB storage device to the SMART Table to apply the customizations. Starting the SMART Table Toolkit The SMART Table Toolkit is located on the USB storage device provided with your SMART Table. To install the toolkit, refer to the SMART Table 230i User s Guide. To start the toolkit: Double-click the SMART Table Toolkit icon on the desktop OR Select Start > All Programs > SMART Technologies > SMART Table > SMART Table Toolkit The SMART Table Toolkit window appears. Importing custom sounds and text When you turn on your SMART Table, the SMART Table activities menu appears. You can select a lesson activity from the menu. A sound plays and instructional text appears when you reach the Home menu or start an activity. You can use the SMART Table Toolkit to customize the instructional sound and text for the Home menu and each of the lesson activities. To customize sounds and text: 2 Select the Home tab or the tab for the activity you want to customize in the SMART Table Toolkit window 3 Import or clear a sound file using the buttons at the bottom of the window 4 Type custom text into the text box at the bottom of the window 5 Save the SMART Table activity file NOTE: Refer to the section titled Saving the SMART Table activity file for instructions on how to save the SMART Table activity file. Type instuctional text. Click the Clear sound button to clear the existing sound file. Click the Import sound button, browse to and select the sound file and click OK.

Customizing the Home menu In addition to customizing the instructional sound file and text, you can also import a custom background for the SMART Table Home menu. To import a custom background: 2 Select the Home tab in the SMART Table Toolkit window 3 Click the Background button, browse to and select a JPEG, GIF or PNG graphic file and click OK Customizing lesson activities Your SMART Table includes eight lesson activities. You can customize each of these activities using the toolkit. Each activity has unique customization options. For information on specific customization options, refer to the SMART Table 230i User s Guide. Addition Paint Media Hot Spaces Multiple Choice Hot Spots Puzzle Addition Plus Downloading new SMART Table activities and customizations You can use the SMART Learning Marketplace to download educational content from the Global Grid for Learning, which is an alliance between SMART Technologies and Cambridge University Press. You can access and download SMART Table activity files (.tablecontent) from the SMART Learning Marketplace using the SMART Table Toolkit. To use the SMART Learning Marketplace: 2 Select the Online Activities tab 3 Purchase a license to create a new user account or log on using an existing user account 4 Search for SMART Table activity files (.tablecontent) and download them to the USB storage device NOTE: For information on applying your new SMART Table activity customizations to your SMART Table, refer to the section Applying customizations to your SMART Table.

Saving the SMART Table activity file Before you can apply the customizations to your SMART Table, you must save them in a SMART Table activity (.tablecontent) file on the USB storage device. When you sync the USB storage device with the SMART Table, the activity file updates the SMART Table activities software to reflect your customizations. The toolkit indicates the status of each tab in the SMART Table activity file: If the tab s label is preceded by an asterisk (*), it contains unsaved changes If the tab s label is black, the tab isn t included in the activity file If the tab s label is green, the tab is included in the activity file This tab isn t included in the file and contains unsaved changes. This tab is included in the file but contains unsaved changes. This tab isn t included in the file. This tab is included in the file. To save the file for the first time: 1 Click Save All. The Choose a location and filename dialog box appears. 2 Browse to the root folder of the USB storage device 3 Type a name for the file in the File name box 4 Click Save To save the file subsequent times: 1 Click Save All To remove a tab from the file: 1 Click the tab to open it 2 Click Remove from Lesson. The tab s label changes from green to black. To remove unsaved changes to a tab: 1 Click the tab to open it 2 Click Discard Changes

Applying customizations to your SMART Table The final step in customizing your SMART Table using the SMART Table Toolkit is to apply the customizations to the table. When you connect the USB storage device to your SMART Table, the table switches from the default Student mode to Teacher mode. You can use Teacher mode to synchronize customized activities and complete other configuration tasks as documented in the SMART Table 230i User s Guide. Student Mode Teacher Mode NOTE: Your SMART Table saves previous versions of the activities in an archive folder. You can restore any of the previous activities. To apply customizations: 1 Save the SMART Table activity file to the USB storage device, and then close the toolkit NOTE: If there are any unsaved changes in the toolkit, the Closing with unsaved items dialog box appears. 2 Remove the USB storage device from your computer 3 Turn on your SMART Table 4 Once you see the SMART Table activities menu, connect the USB storage device to your SMART Table. The menu changes from Student mode to Teacher mode. 5 Press Sync Activities. A list of all.tablecontent files on the USB storage device appears. TIP: Press to rotate the list 180 degrees. 6 Select the appropriate.tablecontent file and press Sync 7 Press OK when the confirmation message appears 8 Disconnect the USB storage device from the SMART Table. The menu changes from Teacher mode to Student mode.

To restore a previous version of SMART Table activities: 1 Turn on your SMART Table 2 When you see the SMART Table activities menu, connect the USB storage device to your SMART Table. The menu changes from Student mode to Teacher mode. 3 Press Activity Archives. A list of previous activity versions appears. TIP: Press to rotate the list 180 degrees. 4 Select the activity version you want to restore, and then press Sync NOTE: The previous activity versions are stored on the SMART Table rather than the USB storage device, but you need to connect the USB storage device to the table to switch to Teacher mode. 5 Press OK when the confirmation message appears 6 Disconnect the USB storage device from the SMART Table.
