A Grande.NET Data Technician has installed and configured Outlook Express on your computer. This software allows you to send and receive e-mail through the Internet. This section outlines the basic features and components of Outlook Express. Please be aware that Outlook Express can only be configured to access your Grande.NET email from a computer connected to the Grande.NET network via your cable modem. CONNECTING TO E-MAIL: E-mail is one of the most commonly used features of the Internet. Grande.NET enables you to send e-mail to anyone in the world who has an e-mail address. On your start menu toolbar, click the Outlook Express icon. IDENTITIES: Identities allow multiple users to use Outlook Express without sharing a common Inbox. You can create multiple Identities in Outlook Express by following the steps below. Please note: You will need to add an account member before you can set up a new identity in Outlook Express. You can refer to your Work Order for Account information or contact Customer Service. Adding Identities On the File menu, select Identities. Select Add New Identity. Type a name for the new identity in the text box, click OK. Page 1
Type a Display name for the new identity in the text box. Click Next. Select I already have an e-mail address that I d like to use. Type an E-mail address for the new identity in the text box. Click Next. Page 2
Select POP3 from the drop down menu. Type mail.grandecom.net in the Incomng mail server and Outgoing mail server text boxes. Click Next. Type a User ID and Password for the new identity in the appropriate text boxes. Click Next. Page 3
Click Finish. Editing Identities On the File menu, select Identities. Select Manage Identities. To edit an Identity, select the Identity name and click Properties. Make your edits and click Close. Deleting Identities On the File menu, select Identities. Select Manage Identities. To delete an Identity, select the Identity name. Click Remove Click Close. Switching Identities You can switch identities without closing Outlook Express or losing you connection to the Internet. On the File menu, select Switch Identity. Select the identity name you wish to use and click OK. Page 4
OPENING A MESSAGE: In the Folders list, click the Inbox icon. Double-click the message envelope you want to open or click the message envelope once to view it in the preview pane. COMPOSING A MESSAGE: On the Outlook toolbar, click New Mail. Type an e-mail address for each recipient in the To or Cc text boxes. If you are sending to multiple recipients, separate each e-mail address with a semicolon and a space. Type the body of the message in the text block. Click Send. REPLYING TO A MESSAGE: Double-click the message envelope you want to open. Click Reply. Type an e-mail address for each recipient in the To or Cc text boxes. If you are sending to multiple recipients, separate each e-mail address with a semicolon and a space. Type the body of the message in the text block. Click Send. Page 5
ATTACHMENTS: Opening Attachments You may receive documents, audio, or video files attached to e-mail messages. An e-mail message with an attachment appears in your mail list with a small paperclip icon next to the message envelope. To open the attachment, follow the steps below. Click the message envelope you want to open. Click the paperclip icon. You will be prompted to open or save your file. If you choose to open, the file will be opened in the corresponding program (i.e., Microsoft Word ). If you choose to save your file, select a location to save the file then go back to that location to open the file or open it through a corresponding program. Inserting Attachments You may send documents, audio, or video files inserted in e-mail messages. To insert an attachment, follow the steps below. On the Outlook toolbar, click New Mail. Type an e-mail address for each recipient in the To or Cc text boxes. If you are sending to multiple recipients, separate each e-mail address with a semicolon and a space. Type the body of the message in the text block. Click Attach. A dialogue box will appear displaying your computer s file structure. Navigate to the file on your computer where you saved the document. Select the document. Click OK. Click Send. OUTLOOK EXPRESS ADDRESS BOOK: Outlook Express Address Book provides a convenient place to store contact information for easy retrieval in Outlook Express. It also features access to Internet directory services, which allow you to look up people and businesses on the Internet. Creating a New Contact Click Addresses. Click New. Click New Contact. Type contact information in the appropriate text boxes. Click OK. Editing a Contact Click Addresses. Select the contact. Select Properties. Make your edits. Click OK. Sharing a Contact To share address book contacts among multiple identities, follow the steps below. Select, drag, and drop a contact to Shared Contacts in the Address Book. Page 6
Sending E-mail from Address Book: Select a contact. Right-click Action. Click Send Mail. Type the body of the message in the text block and click Send.
