Solution Overview
What s New? IBM and VMware are announcing a cooperative effort to give our shared clients the ability to provision and manage virtual machines and applications running on IBM Power Systems with VMware's vrealize Automation solution through OpenStack enabled APIs.
What Does It Do? Expands Cloud Delivery Options for Power Systems Cloud is a journey beginning with virtualization and ending with pattern-based deployment of IT services. Characteristics of Cloud*: Rapid elasticity Broad network access Resource pooling Measured service On-demand self-service SELF SERVICE WORKLOAD PATTERN DEPLOYMENT AUTOMATION VIRTUALIZATION STANDARDIZATION Virtualization Infrastructure & Virtualization Management Entry Level Cloud Standardization & Automation Advanced Cloud Orchestration & Optimization * Source: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
What Else Does It Do? Provisions and Orchestrates Virtualized Power Workloads Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) VMware vrealize Automation passes workload management requests via OpenStack API s (Juno) to IBM s PowerVM* (via PowerVC) and PowerKVM (via Cloud Manager with OpenStack**) Platform as a Service (PaaS) Install scripted applications and workflows via IBM Cloud Builder Services *Testing/verification of IBM i is planned for later in 4Q ** PowerKVM provisioning via PowerVC planned for 1Q 2016

PowerVC Enablement for VMware vrealize Automation Implement your PowerVC solution with help from the experts at IBM Service Overview: IBM will implement a IBM PowerVC solution and integrate it into your new or existing VMware vrealize Automation solution based on a jointly developed plan with the client. Features: Implement a PowerVC Solution: Capture images into repository Rapid VM provisioning and de-provisioning Storage provisioning along with attach/detach SAN volumes to VMs Capture/migrate/resize of VMs Compute templates ( t-shirt sizes ) Storage templates & storage connectivity groups VM placement policies Integrate PowerVC into VMware vrealize Automation Add PowerVC as managed endpoint Create vrealize Automation Blueprints to provision images in PowerVC repository Execute Blueprints to provision Power VMs from vrealize Automation Service Benefits: Enable your Power Systems to integrate with VMware vrealize Automation Gain experience with using PowerVC on Power Systems Contacts: Kyle Wurgler, wurgler@us.ibm.com Vess Natchev, vess@us.ibm.com
IBM Cloud Builder Professional Services can help you set up a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud with automation in less than a day 1. Speed and agility Steps to build a platform-as-a-service cloud Cloud management software Automation scripts Web service Test and development Database server... Step 1 Install cloud management software stack Step 2 Build PaaS patterns and service catalog Step 3 Build process automation workflows Why IBM? IBM-developed automation scripts are designed to do the manual work for you. We have more than 250 patterns ready for automated deployment. We can help provide faster cycle times via more rapid deployment services. Now you can reduce the time required to build PaaS from 6 weeks to less than a day! 1 1 Based on internal IBM estimates; individual results will vary. 12
