Using the device while driving can create dangerous situations where the driver may not be focused on the road or task at hand. 1

EVIR Home Screen 1. New Inspection This tab displays information relevant to the asset the tablet was previously docked in. 2. History This tab displays the inspection history of all assets inspected with this tablet. 3. Inspection Types This tab allows the operator to favorite the inspections they use most and check for updates to the installed inspection configurations. 4. Current Asset This button will bring up the profile of the current asset associated with the GPS device the tablet is docked in; including asset number, manufacturer, tag number, VIN and asset type. 5. Last Inspection This provides a snapshot of information relevant to the last inspection, such as if the asset is safe to drive or in need of repair. If a defect is creating a yellow or red status, a total number of reported defects will be displayed. 6. Start Inspection This begins the inspection process. 7. Flashlight This allows the operator to turn on the LED flashlight located on the left side of the tablet. 2

How do I conduct a new inspection? Log in to the tablet. Access the EVIR application by tapping the EVIR symbol on the tablet home screen or toolbar. From the EVIR home screen, tap Start New Inspection. NOTE: If Ground Traffic Control has recorded a completed repair, the operator will receive notification to confirm the completion of repairs NOTE: When required, the tablet automatically activates the RFID reader which is indicated by the blue LED at the top left of the tablet. Choose Inspection Type The operator selects the type of inspection being performed. Tap Continue Scan Asset Tag The RFID scanner on the tablet becomes active and the operator must scan the Asset tag on the asset to begin the inspection. o Unlike the 2010, the operators do NOT need to scan their ID before inspecting. o The scanner becomes active automatically. If no asset tag is found on the vehicle, the inspection cannot occur. If the operator scans the same tag multiple times, the inspection is reset. 3

If a new asset tag is scanned before the inspection is complete, the previous inspection information is lost. NOTE: At any point, the operator may tap the Flashlight icon to use the tablet s built-in flashlight to help in their inspection. Choose an Operator If there is only one operator logged into the tablet, that information is used for this step and this step is skipped. If there are two operators logged in, the operator doing the inspection must tap their name and then tap continue. Review Last Inspection If the last inspection for the asset is available, the operator must review it before performing a new pre/post trip inspection. o If the checkbox confirming the review is not checked, the current inspection cannot continue. Each zone is displayed with its previous condition for the operator to review, unless there was no previous inspection found. 4

Each zone s status is coded for quick reference: o o No defects found in previous inspection. Defects found, vehicle was safe to drive. o Defects found, vehicle was unsafe to drive. Defects are flagged with a status: o The defect has been noted, but not repaired. o The defect has been corrected. o Zone inspections labeled Unverified come from inspections that were performed manually without scanning the corresponding zone tag. Scrolling down the previous inspection will display all zones in the inspection, including all defects that were found during the inspection. 5

Enter Information In some cases the inspection will require the operator to enter arbitrary data before the inspection can continue. In this example, for a dump truck inspection configuration, the operator is asked to enter the mileage. NOTE: Most configurations may not use this step. 6

Perform New Inspection Scan the first zone tag to inspect that zone. The RFID scanner on the tablet activates automatically. NOTE: If necessary, the operator can tap and hold a zone to perform a manual inspection. The operator will be required to enter their operator ID and PIN, and the zone will be marked as unverified. Once a zone is scanned, the operator is asked if all elements are ok. o Tapping Yes will continue the inspection and allow the next zone to be scanned. 7

o Tapping No will allow the operator to note any defects Tapping on a component will allow the operator to define the condition. If necessary, the operator may attach photographs to the condition by tapping the add pictures button. NOTE: It is possible to attach three photos per defect and five photos per inspection. After noting any defective components and their details, the tablet asks the operator if the asset is safe to drive with the existing condition. 8

o If the asset is safe to drive, tap the Yes button. o If the asset is unsafe to drive, tap the No button. Certify & Submit Inspection Once the operator completes the inspection, the operator must certify and submit the inspection 9

NOTE: If the inspection is incomplete, the tablet warns the operator that the inspection has not been completed and asks if they wish to proceed. 10

What if I am missing a zone tag? The operator will need to perform an unverified inspection if a zone tag is missing. The first steps of the inspection remain the same. When the inspection reaches step where the operator is asked to scan a zone tag, the operator manually selects a zone by tapping and holding. The operator then enters their ID by either typing it in or scanning their operator card. The operator then must enter their PIN. After entering the operator s credentials, the zone can be inspected as normal. This process must be repeated for every zone inspected without a zone tag. How do I attach a photo to my inspection? If an inspection requires a photograph of a damaged component, the operator may use the camera built into the tablet to include it with the inspection. When reporting on the condition of a defect, the operator taps Add Pictures. NOTE: If images are already included with this report, Manage Pictures will replace Add Pictures. NOTE: It is possible to add up to three photos per defect and a total of five photos per inspection. 11

When Take photo is tapped: o The camera function begins and the operator takes the photograph. o When taken, the tablet prompts the operator to use the image or re-take the photo. o When a picture is chosen, the tablet automatically attaches it to the report and asks the operator if they wish to add another. When selecting an image from the Gallery: o The operator is taken to the gallery built into the tablet. o Photos may be chosen and added as newly taken photographs. 12

How do I view the inspection history? From the EVIR application home screen, operator the History tab on the left side of the screen. From this screen, the operator can access previous inspections and filter them by inspection type and asset. o If the operator taps the header on the left, the history can be filtered by inspection type, or if the operator taps on the right, the history can be filtered by asset. o If the operator taps an inspection, it will bring up the particular inspection in which the operator can review the inspection zones and any reported defects, including their repair status. 13

How do I view the asset profile? From the EVIR application home screen, tap the asset name to the right of Current asset. 14
