Model code 1 Frequency inverters from PETER electronic are an ecellent method to control the speed of a.c. motors or three-phase motors. What makes them stand out is their very easy and user-friendly operability. The new type series VersiDrive i is the flagship of our inverter range. It is especially worth mentioning that the complete VersiDrive i product line features high-quality details despite or just because of its attractive price. The whole VersiDrive i series is obtainable in rating classes that range from 0.37 to 160kW and differ as follows: VD i /E2, 1-phase, 0.37 to 2.2kW, degree of protection IP20 or IP66 as an option VD i /3E2, 3-phase, 0.75 to 7.5kW, degree of protection IP66 VD i /3E2, 3-phase, 0.75 to 11.0kW, degree of protection IP20 We like to emphasize the series ease-of-use which is achieved by a reduced, structured set of parameters enabling fast coissioning with only 14 basic parameters. VD i /E, 1-phase, 0.37 to 1.1kW, degree of protection IP20 or IP66 as an option. This frequency inverter has been especially developed ta adapt the speed of capacitor and split-pole motors. 2 VersiDrive i General installation notes Supply voltage Make sure that the mains voltage corresponds with the supply voltage of the inverter. Power switch Fuses and mains contactor Install a protective device (fuse or overload circuit-breaker) between the mains and the inverter. Do not use the overload circuit-breaker as an ON-OFF switch. Depending on the application, it may additionally be necessary to install a power contactor. The power contactor must not be used for switching the inverter on and off. Line reactor Line reactors reduce harmonic currents and voltage drops. Mains filter A mains filter is to be used if the C-category does not comply with the required category of the environment (EN61800-3). AC Drive Earthing Note Should certain applications require the use of further accessories such as mains filters, line reactors, etc., please contact us or your supplier for further details.

FAQs 39 Can Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers be used with VersiDrives? Yes, with the following provisions: A Type B device must be used An individual ELCB must be fitted for each VersiDrive I The ELCB should be suitable for protection where the leakage current contains a DC component The trip level should be at least 30mA. The actual leakage current depends on the nature of the installation, the motor cable type and length, effective switching frequency and the RFI filter in use, and in some cases, a higher trip level may be required. Can I connect more than one motor to the output of an VersiDrive i? Yes, with the following rules: For VersiDrive i P2, the drive must be operated in V/F Mode only. Each motor should be protected by an individual thermal overload. The total cable length limit for the VersiDrive i shown in the relevant User Guide should not be eceeded. An Output filter os recoended in all cases, and allows the maimum permissable motor cable length to be etended by 50% The VersiDrive i should be selected based on the total motor CURRENT required, by adding together the rated current of all the connected motors, and selecting an VersiDrive i with sufficient rated output current capacity. The motors must be permanently connected to the drive, and cannot be individually started or stopped whilst the VersiDrive i is enabled. My drive shows a fault on the display how do I solve this problem? All fault codes that are shown on the display of the drive are designed to protect the Inverter and motor from permanent damage. All fault codes are listed in the relevant User Guide for the products concerned. Additionally we have a Troubleshooting guide linked to this FAQ for further assistance. What types of single phase motor can be used with the VersiDrive i E Single Phase Output Drive? The VersiDrive i E Single Phase Output Drives is desogned for use with PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) or Shaded-Pole Single-Phase induction motors. More information on choosing the correct motor can be found in the attached document. Does my VersiDrive i have an internal Filter? All VersiDrive I Drive have an internal Filter! For more detailed information please refer to each manual of your drive. How can I avoid mechanical resonance at certain motor speeds? VersiDrive i products contain a skip frequency function that can be used to set up a frequency band through which the drive output frequency may pass, but will never continuously operate in. This is used typically to prevent continuous operation close to any frequency at which a mechanical resonance may occur. Such resonance may simply cause ecessive acoustic noise or may in some cases cause mechanical stresses that could lead to mechanical failure.

40 FAQs Can I place a switch or contactor between the VersiDrive i Output and the motor? As a general rule there should be no interruption between the drive output and the motor cable. The motor should be isolated by switching off power to the VersiDrive i and then waiting for the drive bus to discharge. A manually operated switch or contactor should never be placed between the drive and the motor as operation of the switch whilst the drive is running could result in damage to the system. An output contactor could be used for motor disconnection provided that measures are taken to lock-in the contactor until the drive output has been disabled. Please contact Peter electronic product support for information on configuring the VersiDrive i for interlocked operation. When should I use an Input Choke with my VersiDrive i? An Input Choke is not automatically required but is generally recoended and can be used with the VersiDrive i range to help prevent issues with the power supply causing a problem for the drive and to help reduce the effects of the drive in distorting the incoming power supply. Supply Harmonics: Input Chokes are designed to effectively reduce the input harmonic distortion caused to the incoming supply by non-linear loads. Most types of drive products create harmonic distortion on the supply owing to the configuration of the power input circuit and Input chokes are used to reduce the effects of the VersiDrive I upon supply harmonic distortion. For smaller kw drives on larger supplies the distortion effects of the drive may be acceptable as the overall effect on the supply network is proportionally small. However for multiple small kw units on the same supply network or for larger kw drives Input chokes should be used. For some of the higher power rated VersiDrive i models a 3 phase line choke is included as part of the products basic design to improve product robustness and to provide additional cost benefits. Always check for any local regulations specifying limits for harmonic Distortion or for restrictions on supply quality. If in doubt fit a line choke. Drive Protection: Input chokes have the additional benefit of protecting the input of the drive from line surges, spikes and notches or where a line imbalance might eist (3 phase drives). These could be caused generally by the poor quality of the incoming supply or by other equipment (such as DC drives or welders) present on the same supply network. Smaller kw drives can be particularly susceptible to supply variations and also to connection to supplies with low impedance / high short circuit current and line chokes are recoended in these cases. Notes: Fitting an Input line reactor will cause a drop in the incoming supply voltage level to the drive (generally between 2 and 5%). For low voltage supplies check that the resultant supply to the drive is within the specifications given in the user manual. The Input line choke will also produce some additional heat that may need to be considered in enclosure design and component location.
