The Viewer The image viewer is surrounded left, bottom and right by information buttons, a timeline, and image control buttons. The information button pops up a window in which you will get information about the software version, the keyboard shortcuts and the log file. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 3 of 14

The viewer and the timeline bar The grey button in the timeline showing the current frame is clickable letting you navigate through the sequence. You may select a sub-sequence by pressing the 'I' key to set the input marker within the sequence and the 'O' key to set the output marker of the sequence. The selected sub-sequence is marked in blue. Press again 'I' to clear the in-point, and 'O' to clear the out-point. The playback panel Play button: play/stop the sequence FPS displaying speed: choose whether you want to limit the playback speed to 1,5,10,24,25 or 30 FPS, or if you want to let your system playback as fast as possible (OFF) Repeat button: toggle button to specify the behavior when reaching the end of the sequence ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 4 of 14

The Image Processing Control (Settings tab) The application control is composed of a sequence browser (called File Reader) and the development window (called ARRIRAW SDK). At the very right of the application control layout, you can find a panel for displaying the metadata contained in the current ARRIRAW file. The sequence browser (FileReader) The sequence browser allows you to browse for sequences of ARRIRAW files. When one is selected, it is loaded and displayed in the viewer. Press -X and -S to toggle a floating window for a more comfortable use of it. Browse your file system in the directory part of the sequence browser on the left. The sequence part on the right shows the available ARRIRAW sequences. Click on a sequence to load it in the viewer. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 6 of 14

The ARRIRAW SDK panel With this panel, you can modify the parameters that will have an impact on the rendered image: Development Settings Camera Use settings from Exposure Index Choose whether the file was originated from a D21 or an ALEXA digital camera. Changing this value affects the color processing chain (for a D21 file, the white balance has already been applied to the image, not for an ALEXA file). This combo box allows you to choose whether you would like to use the metadata that is contained within the ARRIRAW file header (File Header) or if you want to specify them manually (Manual). Note that if you choose File Header, you will not be able to edit the values. Choose the desired exposure index. The value has to be within the [50; 500] ISO range for a D21 file, within [50; 1600] ISO for an ALEXA file with color processing V1, and within [50; 3200] ISO for an ALEXA file with color processing V3. White Balance Specify the desired white balance in Kelvin. The value has to be within the [3200; 7000] K range for a D21 file, and within [2000; 11000] K for an ALEXA file. Tint Color Encoding Color Space Processing Version Specify the green/magenta tint factor. The value shall be within the [-8; 8] range. Choose between LogC (logarithmic film-style encoding) and Video. When Video is selected, the gamma will be selected according to the value of the output Color Space. Choose the output color space of the image. - ITU 709 (only for Video color encoding): Primaries of the output color space are according to ITU Rec. 709 - P3 (only for Video color encoding): Primaries of the output color space are according to the DCI P3 color space - CameraNative (only for LogC color encoding): The native camera color space. There is no color matrix applied to the image - Film (only for LogC encoding): Film-style color mapping - WideGamut (only for LogC encoding): The camera internal color space. Set the version of the ARRI color processing. To this date, it can only be 1 for a D21 file, and 1, 3 or 4 for an ALEXA file. The preferred processing version is always the newest, i.e. the highest version number. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 7 of 14

Downscale Specify the image downscale ratio. It can be one of 1, 1.25, 1.40, 1.5, 2, 3 or 3.75. Anamorph Specify the pixel aspect ratio (2 for an anamorphic image) Proxy Specify whether you want high quality images (no) or proxy images (yes). A factor 2 is chosen if this mode is enabled. DeBayer Settings DeBayer Mode Specify whether you want to use the internal camera debayering algorithm (Camera), or the AMC-1 algorithm, which is a more elaborate one. AMC-1 is not available in processing version 1 Sharpness Specify the value of the sharpening factor. The value shall be within the [0; 300] range. CPU Threads Look settings Set the number of CPUs to be used for processing the ARRIRAW images. It is usually good practice to set the value to the number of available physical CPUs of your machine. Use Look - No No Look will be applied. - Metadata The embedded look from the file header will be used. - Look File A look from a look file (.xml) will be applied. - Custom Custom values entered below will be used. Look file LUT mode Saturation 0.000000 to 2.000000 Browse to an ARRI look file (.xml) if you want to load an external look. Camera (standard LUT) or Look (custom LUT from file or metadata) Printer Lights -1.000000 to 1.000000 Slope 0.500000 to 2.000000 Offset -0.50000 to 0.500000 Power 0.500000 to 2.000000 For every line edit in the node (e.g. exposure index, white balance, tint, sharpness or look values), you can right click and let a slider appear to modify the value with the mouse instead of typing it. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 8 of 14

The Metadata panel This panel displays information contained in the current ARRIRAW file as well as the values currently used in the processing if the two are different. It is not visible at start-up, so you have to readjust the layout by dragging the dark grey arrow on the right of the ArriRawSDK panel to the left until it appears: When clicking on the Details button, a floating scrollable window will appear that shows you detailed information contained in the ARRIRAW file header: ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 9 of 14

The Render toolbar This toolbar lets you set the different settings for rendering the ARRIRAW files. The supported output formats are TIFF 16 bit, DPX 10 bit, CINEON 10 bit an JPEG. Manage Render Targets This dialog lets you choose where the jobs added to the render queue as well as the jobs rendered quickly will be processed and should be set up first. First of all, you have to set a global output directory by clicking on the Change... button opposite the Global Directory label and browse for your the desired directory. In the ArriRawSDK box, you can then edit the fields for the detailed naming of the rendering. Specify the directory in which you want the images to be rendered to in the Directory field. You can do that by browsing the desired location using the Change... or use special variables to built up a folder structure that will expand at rendering time. Available special variables $globaldir global directory that you have set in the previous step $resolution output resolution of the rendered images $seqdir source path to the sequence $reel the reel name written in the ARRIRAW header of the file $scene scene name written in the ARRIRAW header of the file $take take name written in the ARRIRAW header of the file $format output format of the rendered images (dpx_10bit, tiff_16bit or cineon_10bit) Once you have selected one of those values in the combo box, it will be added to the directory field. The button with the trash icon clears the directory field. For the $seqdir special variable, following syntax can also be used: $seqdir:n, where n is the number of directory layers to omit. For example, let s assume that your ARRIRAW sequence is located in /path/to/the/arriraw/sequence1. This results in: $seqdir:1 = to/the/arriraw/sequence1 $seqdir:2 = the/arriraw/sequence1 $seqdir:3 = arriraw/sequence1 $seqdir:4 = sequence1 ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 10 of 14

In the File Name without extension field, you must specify the naming of the output files. Just like for the directory, you have the possibility to use special variables. Available special variables $ inputfile original file name without the.ari ending. $ timecode time code of the current file as a binary coded decimal. Furthermore, you may use the placeholders $1, $2,..., $n within the file name field. Hereby, the name of n- th level of the decoded output path is embedded into the file name string. The decoded output path and the resulting file name are displayed in the preview window. You can specify the number of output digits using the # placeholder, either by typing it in the field, or by choosing the value in the spin box next to the text edit field. (If you specify less placeholders than there are in the original file name, the original number of output digits will be taken). Finally, you can specify the output image format as well as the starting image count. It is recommended to use the default parameter, which is to use the same numbering as the input sequence. Important note: when you are using the $resolution variable, it will be displayed as 0x0 in the preview window but will be expanded to something meaningful like 2048x1152 at rendering time. At any time during the editing of the render targets, you can click on the Preview button on the bottom right of the dialog. This will let a window pop up with a preview of the rendering path, updated as you change the values described hereunder. If no sequence is loaded, this path will not expand properly. Quick render Renders the current sequence immediately without putting it into the render queue. Important note: An inand an out-point must be set in the timeline. Only the frames contained between those two points are being rendered. Add to render queue Adds the sequence to the render queue for a delayed rendering. Important note: if no input/output points are set in the timeline, then the whole sequence will be added to the rendering queue. If an in- and an outpoint have been set in the timeline, only the frames between those two points will be added to the render queue. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 11 of 14

Save Viewer Image button A window will pop up and ask where to save the current viewer image. The Job Control (RenderingQueue tab) Once you have set up all your jobs and are ready to launch the rendering process, switch to the RenderingQueue tab. It shows all the jobs that are going to be processed. By default, all jobs have the same name ARC_GUI 2.x.x.bxx. To edit the rendering queue, you have to click on the lock icon so that it shows the unlocked state. When double clicking on a job's name, you can rename it. When right clicking on a job, a set of possibilities for that job is available. By choosing Remove this job, you can remove the job from the render queue. Skip this job will mark the job as skipped and it will not be rendered when the render queue is launched. Edit job lets you edit the settings for the job. When everything has been set up correctly, you can launch the processing of the queue by pressing the play button of the render queue panel. ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 12 of 14

The processing of the render queue starts. You can pause or stop it by clicking on the appropriate icon on the right of the global progress bar. There is an icon left of each job entry Job that has not started yet Running job Successfully processed job Failed or interrupted job Skipped job ARRIRAW Converter 2.1 Quick Guide Page 13 of 14
