Tele medicine Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where medical information is transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations. Telemedicine may be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone, or as complex as using satellite technology and videoconferencing equipment to conduct a real time consultation between medical specialists in two different countries. Telemedicine generally refers to the use of communications and information technologies for the delivery of clinical care.

Tele monitoring Remote registration ofmeasurements performed on a human body, such as heart rate, blood pressure and electrical brain activity, transmitted from the body using radio transmitters. Tele monitoring is mostly used for telemetry and research in patients who are not bound to their bed. More specifically: Inremote monitoring, sensors areused to capture and transmit biometric data. For example, a Tele ECG device monitors the electrical activity of the heart and then transmits that data to a specialist. This could be done in either real time or the data could be stored and then forwarded.

Tele monitoring Examples of tele monitoring equipment for: Cardiac and multi parameter monitoring of remote ICUs Home monitoring Disease management

Why tele monitoring More elderly people Not enough physicians / medical staff Healthcare cost are rising due to chronic illness and follow up of these patients Enables self care Patient is moreactively involved in improving, maintaining and managing health Overall objective:... Better care, available to more people, to achieve more healthier people, against lower cost with less care providers...

Store and forward products There is a wave of products launched to the market for different applications. The most frequently used equipment are: Blood pressure hypertension Glucose monitor diabetes Weight heart failure Spirometer COPD ECG holter recorder rhythm disease ECG event recorder cardiac symptoms These devices make use of a store and forward principle. The goal of the technology is to enable the patient to take recordings of medical parameters and transmit the results to their care provider for interpretation.

Store and forward products failure causes The patient does not understand the procedure to do the test The patient does the test procedure wrong The patient forgets to do the test or does the test at the wrong time Difficult to use Sending the data fails due to lackofunderstanding ofthe patient o technical issues: acoustic transmission bluetooth to cell phone bluetooth to land line land line Requires active cooperation between the patient and the care provider It takes too much time to perform the test

Real time patient monitoring products Typically, real time patient monitoring is understood as monitoring of vital signs in hospital departments using WIFI or other short range radio transmission. This type of monitoring is gaining popularity as it detaches the patient from the monitor and enables transportation throughout the area covered by WLANnetwork. The data monitored is typically ECG + SpO2 to alert the staff of any significant changes in cardiopulmonary function that requires further medical attention. More recent developments are in the area of electronic health records and the ability to monitor the patient on different terminals throughout the hospital.

Real time patient monitoring news There is a new product available for real time monitoring Dyna Vision is a complete solution for real time monitoring of vital signs Works anywhere in the world Does not require short range radio connections Monitoring unit on the patient uses inbuilt GPRS transmission Data is automatically transmitted to a remote server Physicians can access the data on the remote server Access via PC software, Web address and mobile phone
