Firmware Update (version 1.09) for Select Pioneer In-Dash Navigation AV Receivers Dear Valued Pioneer Customer: We would like to inform you of the availability of a firmware update (version 1.09) for the current lineup of Pioneer In-Dash Navigation AV receivers. This firmware update is only for the following Pioneer In- Dash Navigation AV receivers sold in the United States and Canada: AVIC-8100NEX and AVIC- 7100NEX. Warning: Installation on any other product could cause irreversible damage. This firmware update (version 1.09) contains the following improvements: - Improves the User Interface process of Smartphone Setup - Corrects a virtual keyboard issue related to ios 9.x. - Corrects a music display issue related to ios 8 and later. - Minor bug fixes In order to perform this update, the following items are needed: Pioneer In-Dash Navigation AV receiver: AVIC-8100NEX or AVIC-7100NEX Blank USB storage device (no files), 2 GB or larger in capacity, formatted to FAT32 Steps to install the firmware are attached. Installation of the update should take no more than ten minutes to complete. How to Obtain the Free Firmware Update: 1. Download the firmware update files to a computer from the Pioneer website 2. Transfer the files to the USB storage device for insertion into the Pioneer in-dash DVD Receiver.
System Firmware Update 1.09 Instructions for Pioneer In-dash Multimedia Navigation and DVD Receivers (AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, AVIC-5100NEX and AVH-4100NEX) This firmware update (version 1.09 for AVIC and version 1.09 for AVH) applies only to the following models of Pioneer products sold in the United States and Canada. AVIC-8100NEX AVIC-7100NEX AVIC-6100NEX AVIC-5100NEX AVH-4100NEX IMPORTANT Please download and print these Firmware Update instructions before downloading and installing the firmware update. It is important that you complete all steps correctly and in the order described below. Please note that this update has two parts. You will download one file, but two installation sequences will be performed. If you install this Firmware, all navigation function settings and save data will be formatted to default settings. Once the update has finished, you will need to reconfigure the settings. Any content purchased and added through Naviextras will also need to be re-installed. Note that no charges will be incurred to download previously purchased content. In order to perform this update, the following items are needed: Pioneer in-dash Navigation or DVD system: AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC- 6100NEX, AVIC-5100NEX or AVH-4100NEX. Blank USB storage device (no files), 2 GB or larger in capacity, formatted to FAT32.
CAUTION The only USB port that supports the firmware update is USB port 1. DO NOT turn your unit off or disconnect the USB storage device while the firmware is being updated. You can only update the firmware when the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is engaged. Displaying the firmware version Check whether the firmware of your unit needs to be updated by checking the version number. Procedure: 1. Press the HOME button to display the Top menu screen. 2. Touch the following keys in the following order. The System screen appears 3. Scroll down the list. 4. Touch [System Information].
5. Touch [Firmware Information]. 6. After the Firmware Information screen appears, check the firmware version number. 7. Verify that the firmware on your unit is not already 1.09. Checking the Bluetooth software version Procedure: 1. Press the HOME button to display the Top menu screen. 2. Touch the following keys in this order. The Bluetooth screen appears. 3. Touch [Bluetooth Version Information]
4. The version of this product s Bluetooth device appears. Verify that the version of Bluetooth device is not already 03.41.13. Downloading the firmware update files from Pioneer's website Once upgraded to this version, it is not possible to downgrade to a lower version. 1. Download the firmware update files 2. Extract the download file. The Downloaded zip file will produce the following file when decompressed: (See the table below) AVIC-8100NEX_FW 1.09 AVIC-7100NEX_FW 1.09 AVIC-6100NEX_FW 1.09 AVIC-5100NEX AVIC-5100NEX_FW 1.09 AVH-4100NEX_FW 1.09 IMPORTANT DO NOT perform any further steps of this firmware update if the model number is anything other than one of the above models. Disconnect any mobile devices that are currently connected to your unit. Ensure that the update file is located within the root (top) folder of your USB storage device. There should be no other files on the USB storage device. While your unit is being updated, DO NOT turn off the system s power and DO NOT touch the unit s touch panel screen as this may result in severe damage to your unit. DO NOT remove the USB storage device during the firmware update process. Performing the firmware update will restore all settings to their default values.
Part 1: Updating the firmware on your Unit Procedure: 1. Connect a blank (formatted) USB storage device to your computer, and then locate the correct update file and copy it onto the storage device. 2. Insert the USB storage device to the USB port 1 of the receiver. 3. Set the audio source to OFF on your unit. 4. Press the HOME button to display the Top menu screen. 5. Touch the keys below in the following order. The System screen appears. 6. Scroll down the list. 7. Touch [System Information].
8. Touch [Firmware Update]. The Firmware Update screen appears. 9. Touch [Continue] to display the data transfer mode. Wait for the file check to finish.
10. Touch [Start]. Note: Images are for illustration purposes only. Actual version number may differ. Progress status is shown. (Please note: Approximately one minute after the update has started, the receiver will restart itself and return to the update screen below.) 11. Wait until the update process is complete. DO NOT pull out USB storage device or remove power until you see the Update Complete screen. Once the firmware update process is complete, the unit will display the "Update Complete" screen.
Confirm that the firmware has been updated Perform the same procedure for Displaying the firmware version to confirm that the firmware has been updated. Procedure: 1. Press the HOME button to display the Top menu screen. 2. Touch the following keys in the following order. The System screen appears 3. Scroll down the list. 4. Touch [System Information].
5. Touch [Firmware Information]. 6. After the Firmware Information screen appears, verify that the firmware version is 1.09. Part 2: Updating Bluetooth software Procedure: Use the same update file that you used for Part 1. 1. Press the HOME button to display the Top menu screen. 2. Touch the following keys in this order. 3. Touch [BT software Update]
4. Touch [Start] The data transfer screen is displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish updating the Bluetooth software. Confirm that the Bluetooth software has been updated Perform the same procedure for Checking the Bluetooth software version to confirm that the Bluetooth software has been updated.
Map Update Notification for Pioneer In-dash Navigation Receivers: AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, and AVIC-5100NEX Dear Valued Pioneer Customer: We would like to inform you of the availability of a critical map update for Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC- 7100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, and AVIC-5100NEX in-dash navigation receivers sold in the United States and Canada. This map update provides missing address data for the Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C. areas. The update does not apply to any other Pioneer models. In order to perform this update, the following items are needed: Pioneer navigation receiver: AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, or AVIC- 5100NEX A USB storage device with at least 8 GB of storage capacity formatted to FAT32 Naviextras ToolBox software, available free of charge from Naviextras Windows PC How to Obtain the Free Map Update: Download and review the map update instructions to a Windows PC from the Pioneer website
Map Update Instructions for Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, and AVIC-8100NEX In-dash Navigation Receivers using Naviextras Toolbox Software IMPORTANT Please download and print these update instructions before downloading and installing the map update. It is important that you complete all steps correctly and in the order described below. In order to perform this update, the following items are needed: Pioneer Navigation Receiver: AVIC-5100NEX, AVIC-6100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, or AVIC- 8100NEX A PC with: o Microsoft Windows operating system (Windows XP, Windows 7, or Windows 8) o Internet connection A USB memory stick, formatted to FAT32, with a capacity of at least 8GB CAUTION Memory stick should be blank (should not contain any files). DO NOT turn your unit off or disconnect the USB storage device while performing the map update. You can only update the map data when the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is engaged. Procedure: Part 1: Preparing the USB memory stick for the update Before you can download any map content from Naviextras to the memory stick, you will need to update it with information from your Pioneer navigation receiver. To do this, please follow the procedure below. 1. Select the Menu icon from the navigation screen.
2. Scroll through the menu options using the > symbol to select the Settings menu. 3. Scroll through the menu options using the > symbol and tap SyncTool. 4. The system asks you to confirm that you want to prepare the memory stick for an update.
5. Connect the blank USB memory stick to your navigation device after making sure no other USB devices are connected. A status screen is displayed showing the progress. WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE USB MEMORY STICK AND DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR NAVIGATION RECEIVER DURING THIS PROCESS. 6. Wait until the navigation receiver prompts you to remove the memory stick, then disconnect the USB memory stick from your receiver. Part 2: Downloading the Naviextras Toolbox Go to Pioneer website to download the Naviextras Toolbox software.
1. In the bottom right corner of the screen, select Download PC Tool Select Download to start the Naviextras Toolbox download process.
Part 3: Installing Naviextras Toolbox To install the Naviextras Toolbox software to your PC, follow the steps below: 1. Double-click the (Naviextras_Toolbox_Setup.exe) file to start the installation. 2. Select an installer language. 3. During the setup process, follow the instructions on the screen and click Next. 4. Once the installation is complete, click Finish. Leave I would like to start Naviextras Toolbox now checked so that Naviextras Toolbox starts up automatically after installation.
Part 4: Connecting your USB memory stick to the computer. 1. With Naviextras Toolbox launched, connect the USB memory stick to your PC. 2. Choose whether to allow the collection of anonymous GPS logs, which is optional and not necessary for the update. 3. Log in to your Naviextras profile. If you do not have a Naviextras account yet, click Create a User Profile and follow the instructions.
4. After logging into your Naviextras account, your home screen appears. You can reach your profile and transaction history from here and immediately view available content for your navigation receiver. Part 5: Downloading map updates from Naviextras Once you have connected your USB memory stick to your PC, launched the Naviextras Toolbox, and logged in to your account, you can download map updates. To do this, follow the steps below: 1. Click on the left side of the Naviextras Toolbox window. You will see the new packages available to install. 2. Click Install.
3. After the installation, the system displays that the operation was completed successfully. Click OK. Now your device is up-to-date. Part 6: Transferring downloaded content to the navigation system After downloading the updates to your USB memory stick, you can transfer them to the navigation system. To do this, follow the steps below: NOTE: 1. During the transfer process, do NOT switch off the vehicle s ignition, otherwise you may need to start the process again. 2. Do not leave Map Mode on (e. g. AV/App mode, HOME screen) during the update process, otherwise the process will be automatically suspended. In that case, you can restart Synctool at Step 2 to resume. Procedure: 1. Insert your USB memory stick containing the map update into the navigation device.
2. Go to the settings Menu from the MAP Screen 3. Go to the > and scroll to the Settings 4. From the Navigation menu, go to Settings and start Synctool.
5. The system asks you to confirm that you want to update the map content of the navigation system. Tap Yes. 6. The Pioneer Navigation System notifies you when the update process is complete. NOTE: The system may reboot several times during the update process. 7. Exit Synctool and remove the USB memory stick. Your map data has been updated.
