How to import, edit, AVI files? Posted by curmudgeon66-02 Dec 2010 03:33 Running Windows 7 64bit on HPE-450t, Intel core i7 CPU 870, ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card. The install appears to have gone just fine. I can go into Lightworks. I can create project, although I don't know if the default project values are what I should be using, but that always seems like a good starting place. I can not "import" or open up any of the AVI files that I want to edit. I have a Nikon D90 digital camera which creates video files as AVI files, at 24 fps. and has audio bit rate of 176 kbps mono. How do I import or use these files as the starting point for a project. The PDF manual says that Lightworks imports the video (only?) of avi files, but I can't figure out how. Please advise. The user interface looks good, the specs say this should do a fantastic job. But I can't figure out how to use it. Curmudgeon Posted by Forum Admin - 06 Dec 2010 07:55 For now i had some video materials to learning basic of editing in lightowrks and im patiently waiting for codec solution. Thanks for trying the program. We are working on better codec support and you will see information about this over the next few weeks. You'll also see some video tutorials - we are working on them now. 1 / 6
Posted by Ickarus - 06 Dec 2010 22:28 @ Ckofford (#2010) Good Idea! I ran CCleaner to clean up the mess in the registry left when I uninstalled the Xvid codecs. Naturally, I left matrox codecs on my XP machine. After Reinstalling Lightworks 10.0.1, unfortunally it still won't work. I repeat myself: Don't install any other codecs!!! I have to clean up the registry manually (ok, save it first!) and pray to get LW work again. If so, you need change that to false. The new patch (see Announcements) also fixes this. Is this patch for 64 bit systems as well as 32 bit? The reason I ask is because file name has (x86) in it. Thanks for clarifying. Posted by JayJay - 03 Jan 2011 01:00 Is there still no update to fix this problem? If not, do you make any positive progress to fix it? Just saw the last comment was 3 weeks ago... Posted by Forum Admin - 03 Jan 2011 01:09 do you make any positive progress to fix it? There is a lot of information on importing on the forum now. In addition, we have announced that there will be improvements in codec support, and that we will be bringing you more information on this early in January. In the second week of January there will be a new release that will include several fixes. A full list will be given at the time. If you are thinking of creating and 3 / 6
completing a project whilst learning and sorting any issues with this software, you are better off going with your regular (if you have one) NLE. To ask whether it is Monday or next Friday is simply ridiculous. Nepule Posted by jackson4christ - 08 Jan 2011 19:18 nepule wrote:...you are better off going with your regular (if you have one) NLE. To ask whether it is Monday or next Friday is simply ridiculous. I don't have one, or I wouldn't have spent the last three days trying to learn LightWorks for a current project (Which is a really basic 3-min promo video primarily using.jpg's and K.B. effects). And, someone should send that "beta softwhere isn't for production use" memo to Google... Dominus Vobiscum jackson4christ Posted by jwrl - 09 Jan 2011 03:24 If you just want to edit a basic video try Windows Moviemaker. If that doesn't meet your needs there is a fully functional 30-day demo of Avid Media Composer available, and you can also download Adobe Premiere CS5 and run it in demo mode for 30 days with somewhat limited functionality. As has been stated repeatedly elsewhere, this release of Lightworks is a beta version only. While some have used and are using it for proper jobs, it isn't really intended for that purpose. 4 / 6

NewTek SpeedEDIT is probably the only one advanced NLE which doesn't offer such opportunity. And 30 days is a lot of time - for 'a really basic 3-min promo video primarily using.jpg's and K.B. effects' at least. Posted by jackson4christ - 09 Jan 2011 20:35 I'd really like to go with something that I can keep for the long haul though, so I'm going to stick with free offerings for now. Thank you though. Dominus Vobiscum jackson4christ Posted by drkuli - 09 Jan 2011 20:53 If Windows Movie Maker is not enough, try Blender or GIMP with Animation Package. Both are free, open source and well established. Posted by roel - 15 Jan 2011 15:07 I have no problems importing DVAVI files captured with Scenalyzer (DVAVI type 2 for both 4:3 and 16:9 720 x 576 PAL). 5 / 6
system windows 7 64 and 32 bit. 6 / 6
