Installing the Wyse Rx0L Thin Client Flash and RAM Upgrade Option Kits About this Guide This guide enables users of Wyse Rx0L thin clients to install flash and RAM upgrades. 2 Chapter Getting Started This chapter provides information about your flash and/or RAM kit warranty, kit contents, required tools, and removing the thin client s cover. Kit Warranty The warranty on this kit assumes the remaining months of warranty of the thin client in which it is installed, or for 90 days, whichever is greater. Installation of this kit will not void the factory warranty, however the user will be responsible for damage due to improper installation. Kit Contents Included in the kit is the flash or RAM module as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 Kit contents (both kits are shown) Note Your flash or RAM module may look different Required Tools and Materials You will need the following tools to install the kit: #2 Phillips screwdriver Needle-nose pliers Container for holding screws, optional Warning Flash and RAM modules may be susceptible to damage by Electro-Static Discharge (ESD). All industry-standard cautions should be followed to avoid ESD. Before you remove or install a modules, touch any metal part of the chassis and keep that contact with the chassis during the installation process.

3 Removing the Thin Client Cover To remove the cover of your thin client: Caution Follow all precautions listed in the Quick-Start Guide that came with your thin client for disconnecting and reconnecting the thin client. 1. Perform a proper shutdown of the thin client by closing all files and ending your session, and then press the power button to turn off the thin client. 2. Unplug the power cord and power adapter, remove all of the cables from the rear of the thin client, and detach the vertical foot. 3. Position the thin client horizontally, and then remove the screws from the top and bottom of the thin client using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2 Removing top and bottom screws 4. Open the thin client by sliding the left side cover toward the rear of the device and lift off to expose the main board as shown in Figure 3. 4 Chapter Installing the Flash Module This section provides information on how to install the flash kit in a Wyse Rx0L thin client. Warning Flash and RAM modules may be susceptible to damage by Electro-Static Discharge (ESD). All industry-standard cautions should be followed to avoid ESD. Before you remove or install a modules, touch any metal part of the chassis and keep that contact with the chassis during the installation process. Removing the Existing Flash Module To remove: 1. Note where the connector of the flash module is located in Figure 4. Use Needle-nose pliers to squeeze the plastic standoff lock as you rock the module back and forth to remove module from the socket. Figure 4 Removing the existing Flash module Installing the New Flash Module To install: 1. Install the new module in the reverse order of removing the old flash module. Carefully press the module onto the standoff lock and connector, making sure to lock it into place.

5 Installing the RAM Module This section provides information on how to install the RAM kit in a Wyse Rx0L thin client. Warning Flash and RAM modules may be susceptible to damage by Electro-Static Discharge (ESD). All industry-standard cautions should be followed to avoid ESD. Before you remove or install a modules, touch any metal part of the chassis and keep that contact with the chassis during the installation process. Removing the Existing RAM Module To remove: 1. Unlock the two module locking clamps at either side of the module by pushing in the direction of the arrows as shown in Figure 5. 2. Remove the RAM module. Figure 5 Removing the existing RAM module Installing the New RAM Module To install: 1. Insert the new RAM module into the connector of the original module. 2. Press down on the module so that the two locks with snap in place, securing the module.

6 Chapter Reassembling the Thin Client To reassemble the thin client: 1. Replace the top cover in the reverse order as described in "Removing the Thin Client Cover." 2. Attach the vertical foot. 3. Reconnect the video display, keyboard, mouse, network cable, and power adapter to the thin client before connecting to your electrical outlet. 4. The thin client is ready to re-image since the flash module does not contain an operating system. Turning on power to your thin client without software will display the error message NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND.
