I. INTRODUCTION This is a guide on how you download and then install the BBB dynamic seal into your email signature. Note that the code for this type of seal is very modified to work in email and not use Javascript. Also, if the logo is downloaded by the mail client it will stop being dynamic. Some email systems do that, others do not. There's nothing that you can do to control that unfortunately. II. DOWNLOADING THE DYNAMIC SEAL Here are the steps in downloading the HTML code for email signatures: Step 1: Go to your dynamic seal download page. For example, http://www.bbb.org/arkansas/dynamic-seal. Click the link at the bottom of the page and then agree to the Terms of Use and fill in your BID. Better Business Bureau Page 2 of 26

Step 2: In the options page, choose Email Signature option under Type of Installation category and select the most appropriate option that applies to your system for all the other categories especially on the email type. Once you have chosen the format for you, click the Save and Download button. Step 3: Copy the generated links or HTML code (depending on the email type you choose) and set it up for Interface for Email Signatures Created Using Raw HTML Better Business Bureau Page 3 of 26

(e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL) Step 4: If the output format is not suitable for the system you re using, you may download again choosing a different set of options until you get the right combination for you. III. INSTALLING THE DYNAMIC SEAL INTO YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE Installing the dynamic seal into an email signature can be as simple as adding an image and linking it to your business review or as complex as creating an html signature with the html code of the dynamic seal on it. It all depends on the email system being used. For this, we have categorized the installation process into two: A.) Rich text format which is the usual environment in webmails like GMail, Windows Live, Yahoo! Mail, AOL and the like and B.) HTML format, an option for most email clients like MS Outlook and Thunderbird among others. Better Business Bureau Page 4 of 26

A. Rich text format Adding the dynamic seal into an email signature in a rich text format environment is quite easy. You just need to add the seal as an image from the seal web page using the Image URL Link provided in the download page. Once the dynamic seal logo is displayed, you click on it and link it to the Business Review Link as provided in the download page for webmail. This whole process will be illustrated in the next pages. The image below is a sample of a seal code generated when the webmail option is chosen. The first box contains the Image Link URL, the source of the dynamic seal image. This provides the dynamic seal logo which, if properly linked, will go to the business review of the AB once it is clicked. The second box contains the Business Review Link which should be used as the external link of the dynamic seal logo. It is useful to add this as this script can help keep track of stats going to your business reviews. In the following pages, you will see illustrations and detailed steps on how to set up the dynamic seal in emails hosted in the web and/or using the rich text format environment. Better Business Bureau Page 5 of 26

1.) GMail Step 1: Click on the gear icon at the top right portion of your webmail and choose Settings. Under the General tab, scroll down to the Signature section and choose the option for inserting signature: Better Business Bureau Page 6 of 26

Step 2: Click the Insert Image tool. Step 3: Enter the Image Link URL in the generated seal code as the Web address (URL) and then click OK. Better Business Bureau Page 7 of 26

Step 4: Click on the image and then the Link tool. Step 5: Choose the Link to Web address option and link the dynamic seal logo to the business review by entering the Business Review Link generated in the dynamic seal download page. You may also enter an appropriate text to display. Then click OK. Better Business Bureau Page 8 of 26

Step 6: You may add more information and other details that you want to appear in your email signature. NOTE: Make sure to click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the Settings page to save your new signature. Your new signature should now appear whenever you compose a new email message.. Better Business Bureau Page 9 of 26

2.) Windows Live, Hotmail and/or Outlook in Web Browser Step 1: Select Options (the gear icon) and then More mail settings. Step 4: Highlight the dynamic seal logo with your mouse. As an alternative, you can press Ctrl-A (in Windows and Linux) or Command-A (Mac) to select it. Better Business Bureau Page 10 of 26

Step 5: Press Ctrl-C (Windows, Linux) or Command-C (Mac). Step 6: Back at Windows Live Hotmail's signature editor, position the cursor where you want to insert the seal under Personal signature. Then, press Ctrl-V (Windows, Linux) or Command-V (Mac). Better Business Bureau Page 11 of 24

Step 7: Link the dynamic seal to your Business Review. a. Highlight the dynamic seal logo and then click the Insert Hyperlink tool. b. Enter the Business Review Link in the box and click OK. Step 8 (Optional): Add more texts and information that you want included in the email signature. Step 9: After everything is done, click Save. Better Business Bureau Page 12 of 26

3.) Yahoo! Mail In Yahoo! Mail, adding the dynamic seal logo to your email signature in some non-ie (Internet Explorer) web browsers is a little tricky. Generally, the following steps outlined below should work when using IE (Internet Explorer) as your browser. These directions will only work if you have upgraded to the latest Yahoo Mail formatting/view. If you haven't done so. That will need to be done before anything else. Step 1: Click on the gear icon at the top right portion of your webmail and choose Mail Options. Click on Signature and choose Show a rich text signature. Step 2: Open a new tab in your browser; paste the Image Link URL in the generated seal code and press enter. You should see the dynamic seal logo. Right click on that image and select Copy image. Better Business Bureau Page 13 of 26

Step 3: Go back to your webmail signature settings. Position the mouse cursor inside the box intended for email signatures, right click and then select Paste. Step 4: Highlight the dynamic seal image (A), click on the Web Link tool (B), enter the Image Link URL in the generated seal code as the URL for the link to point to (C) and then click OK. Better Business Bureau Page 14 of 26

Step 5: You may add more information and other details that you want to appear in your email signature. NOTE: Make sure to click on the Save button at the upper right hand corner of the Signature section to save your new signature. Your new signature should now appear whenever you compose a new email message. If the general steps outlined above did not work for you, please try using a different web browser. If it still doesn t work in the test using different web browsers, send us an email that contains screenshots of what you are seeing and the browsers (and browser versions) you used in testing these dynamic seal signature installation steps. Better Business Bureau Page 15 of 26

4.) AOL Mail or AIM Mail Step 1: In your AOL Mail interface, go to "Options". Click "Mail Settings" and then, Compose. Step 2: In Rich Text / HTML section, check Use Rich Text/HTML Editing and select Use Signature Better Business Bureau Page 16 of 26

Step 3: In a separate browser window, open the web page containing your dynamic seal. Use the Image Link URL provided in the dynamic seal code download page. Step 4: Highlight the dynamic seal logo with your mouse. You may also use Ctrl-A (in Windows and Linux) or Command-A (Mac) to select it. Step 5: Press Ctrl-C (Windows, Linux) or Command-C (Mac). Step 6: Go back to AOL. Inside the signature box, position the cursor where you want to insert the seal and then press Ctrl-V (Windows, Linux) or Command-V (Mac). Better Business Bureau Page 17 of 26

Step 7: Link the dynamic seal to your Business Review. Note that this step may not work in a non-ie browser. If you are using a non-ie browser and Step 7a does not work, please try Step 7b. a. Highlight the dynamic seal logo and then click the Link tool. b. Position the cursor anywhere inside the signature box where you want to put the link and click the Link tool. Put in the Text for the link box any wording you want to use. Step 8: Choose Web Site as the Link To: option and enter in the appropriate box the Business Review Link provided in the dynamic seal download page. Click OK. Better Business Bureau Page 18 of 26

Step 9 (Optional): Add formatted text and information above or below the dynamic seal (and your Business Review link). Step 10: Scroll down and click the "Save Settings" button. To view how your new email signature looks, open a new email form. If you want anything changed in your signature, just follow the entire steps again. B. Email Signature in HTML for Email Clients When installing an email signature in an email client, there is an option to attach the signature from a file. Here are the steps to follow if you want to proceed with that option. Step 1: Open a text editor (Notepad, if you're on Windows). Better Business Bureau Page 19 of 26

Step 2: Paste your signature including the dynamic seal code in the text editor. Note that the dynamic seal code to be used in this case is the one produced when you choose the Email Clients option in the dynamic seal download page. The image below shows a sample code generated when the Email Client option is chosen: Step 3: Save the file as signature.html anywhere you wish. You can then upload this file in your email client. NOTE: Most email clients allow users to just add HTML codes directly into the interface so it may not be necessary to follow the steps outlined above. Better Business Bureau Page 20 of 26

1. Thunderbird Step 1: Click 'Tools' and then 'Account Settings'. Step 2: If using multiple email accounts, select the account you wish to add the signature to from the left pane. Better Business Bureau Page 21 of 26

Step 3: Make sure 'Use HTML' is checked and then copy and paste the code downloaded from the dynamic seal page into the Signature Text box. You may need to add your own manual breaks on other information, such as your name and phone number, which you can do using the code <br /> Better Business Bureau Page 22 of 26

Step 4 (Optional): You can also use the Attach the signature from a file instead option if you have your signature in an HTML file. The instruction to do this option is outlined in the first part of this Email Client section. (See page 18.) Step 5: When done, press OK to save your changes. 2. Windows Outlook Step 1: In the Outlook menu, select Tools and then Options. Better Business Bureau Page 23 of 26

Step 2: Go to the Mail Format tab and then click Signatures under Signatures. Note: Make sure that your Message Format is set to HTML as shown in the image below. Step 3: Go to the E-mail Signature tab, click New and give your signature a name like "sig1" then click on OK. Step 4: Close Outlook and locate your signatures folder. To locate the folder, copy one of the following lines depending on what your operating system is: Vista/Windows7:%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SignaturesXP-2003: %userprofile%\application Data\Microsoft\Signatures Click on Start and then Run paste the line you copied into the Run box and hit Enter. You should see 3 files created for your sig1 file (in.htm,.txt and.rtf formats). If you can t see the file extensions, go to Tools / Folder Options / View and untick Hide extensions for known file types, or right- click the file and select Properties to determine the file type. Better Business Bureau Page 24 of 26

Step 5: Open sig1.htm via Notepad or any text editor. Step 6: Copy the HTML code of the dynamic seal that you downloaded and paste it as shown in the next page, then Save the file. Better Business Bureau Page 25 of 26

Step 7: To use the signature, restart Outlook. NOTE: If your system was not covered in this help file and / or the general steps do not work for you, please send us an email so we can look into it and add the appropriate steps to this help file. Please include in your email the following information, whichever is applicable. a.) email provider used b.) email settings for signature (either HTML or raw text file) c.) the browser and browser version used in creating the dynamic seal signature and/or sending the email with a dynamic seal signature d.) screenshots of what you are seeing Better Business Bureau Page 26 of 26
